What Size Shop Air Filtration System?

I installed a WEN air filtration system in my shop. This video will show you how to pick the right size air filtration system. It will also tell you why I wanted one in my shop and how I installed it.

Thank you. I use it a lot. When the outside filter gets dirty, I take it out and vacuum it. Lasts longer that way.

I took 3 20 inch box fans , using J trim from Siding on the back side of fan to slide in a 20x20 1 inch thick merv 11 filter. IT works amazing for dust issues. I also have one of those WEN units but the box fan works about the same and is much cheeper. Added a timer to the plug so all fans run off of it.

I think I’m on my third year of use. I can’t say how many times I’ve used it. When I have a project going, I use it every day. Maybe 150+ days a year? My only issue was the I had to replace the PCB (printed circuit board). That was after one year. They shipped me a new one at no cost. They didn’t have instructions on how to replace the PCB on the model I bought. When I replaced it, I created a video on how to do it. The video has been viewed over 500 times so they must have had a bad batch of PCB boards. I really like it and I am amazed at how much fine dust it picks up. I take the outer filter off once in a while and just vacuum it clean. I suspect I’ll need a new one but they’re a little expensive an I’m a tightwad! My neighbor also bought on to use in his basement shop. He’s happy with it as well.

It does a great job. I have cleaned the filters a couple of times. I’m amaze at how much fine dust it collects. About a year after I installed it the PCB control panel went out. They didn’t have any instructions about how to replace it so I just figured it out and made a video as I did it. That video has about 1,000 views so they must have had a bad batch. They replaced the PCB at no charge and appreciated the fact that I made video about how to install it.

Great vid. With that rigid shop vac setup. Do you still put a bag inside of the rigid shop vac?

Thank you. When working on my table saw or miter saw, I position the vac so the exhaust is pointed out the garage door so I don’t use a bag. However, now that it’s getting cold and I don’t leave the door open, I will add a bag. I have a smaller vac that I use without a cyclone separator for my pocket hole jig, sander and router. I use a bag in that one always. The bags do a great job. I think capturing dust makes my environment much healthier and cleaner. I should have added all this stuff a long time ago.

How/why did you decide to put the system in centre of garage? I’m reading other write-ups that suggest it should be approx 12” away from on of your walls and approx 1/3 distance along that wall. Thoughts? Tks

One side of my garage has a shelf hanging from the ceiling. The other side is too far from where I generally work. Also, I never saw anything that recommended that you install it close to a wall. Other videos I watched didn’t seem to have a pattern as to where they were hung. You have me thinking though. I may do more research. Not a big deal to move it.

nice demo test with the incense smoke!! I just watched a Jet review and it was buyer beware. I have a a few wen tools and they are so-so cheap and OK - but yes typical dents and screws that don't thread in to hold drill press cover. but still for the price its ok.

Thanks. After about a year I had to replace the PCB. WEN sent me a new one for free but there were no instructions. I created a video as I replaced it so others would have some guidance. That video has about 600 views so it’s apparently a common issue. The filter does a great job and I’m pretty happy with it.
