About language, many Indonesians are bilingual (like Singaporean: Malay, English Singaporean, Chinese, and Indian, if I am not wrong), but we have a lot of traditional languages, spread throughout the country. We speak Bahasa Indonesia and one traditional language, it is different from what people call "accent" or "dialect". It's language, totally different with Bahasa Indonesia. It depends on who and where are you from (can be trilingual if we had two ethnicity and parents teach it, their languages, or even multilingual as we learn English or other languages). For example, me, I speak Indonesia and Sunda. Bahasa Indonesia is the national language, the language we speak to Indonesians outside our own area. For example, there is a Sundanese and Javanese, one person speak Sundanese and the other speak Javanese, but we can understand each other by using Bahasa Indonesia. We do have snowy area. It's in Papua, actually, it is a mountain, because the height of that mountain, the temperature is cold and we can find ice. And yes, even though our country has the largest Muslim population in the world, we are not Islamic country. Instead of that, we are religious country, we even had "religion" in our Identity Card (we call it KTP). We had six religions recognized by the government. The religions in Indonesia are Islam, Christian, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. We are Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, it means unity in diversity. Many languages, many tribes, many religions, many races, many groups, and so many other things but we are one.

Many rich Indonesians actually live in Singapore therefore the image of Singaporean are living above average. But actually average Singaporean are not really that rich and are usually a professional workers. The Indonesian food have too many varieties that couldn't made to the list. RENDANG, MI GORENG, GUDEG, SOTO etc. South East Asia has plenty of old temples. Buddhist, Hindu, and also place of many big mosques and churches. We are some religious people here, either it's good or bad, I don't really know... 😂

If people tried to do street art, they called it "vandalism" and cane you for it. People try selling street food, they called it "unhygenic" and cane you for that. And forget about cheap prices. Everything is at least 2 times, 3 times or 4 times more expensive than their neighbouring countries, but if you bought cheaper things from overseas for your own consumption and brings it back to SIngapore, the govt will literally force you to pay the price difference to them in the form of "Goods and Service Tax". Would have been nice to have other SEA countries’ reps like Philippines, Malaysia, etc. Maybe the producers had difficulty locating people who can speak Korean or are available during filming time… Thailand - Missed the fantastic food and shopping. The local women are very petite (and pretty) and I could never find any clothes in my size. Indonesia - Bandung was my favourite place. Loved its mountains, paddy fields, climate and the sound of angklung. The batik was beautiful too. Vietnam - Regretted not visiting Hanoi, but Ho Chi Minh’s markets, art galleries (skilful reproductions) and roads (sooooo many motorbikes) were eye-opening. Food and local coffee were lovely too. Singapore - If I ever leave Singapore to relocate, I will miss the food, Changi Airport and Singaporean-accented English. And how everything’s so accessible (food, grocery, shopping, medical services).

I think most people don't know that the weather in Vietnam is very hot but we also have snow a few days a year in some northern provinces. Winter in Hanoi, although there is no snow, is still cold. Pay attention if you come to northern Vietnam in winter. And Indonesian most Muslims in the world but not a Islamic country. This is new to me.

Indonesia is a secular country with a Muslim majority. Indonesia recognizes 6 religions, namely Islam, Protestantism, Catholicism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Confucianism. You can see the diversity of religions and cultures in Indonesia, such as in Bali the majority are Hindus, in eastern Indonesia the majority are Christian (Protestant & Catholic), and you can find the largest Buddhist temple in the world is in Indonesia and also the most beautiful Hindu temple in the world is in Indonesia. You can also find a very tall statue of Jesus in Toraja Sulawesi, Indonesia. even at this time on the island of Sumatra they are doing the construction of another statue of Jesus, which will be the tallest statue of Jesus in the world. And of course there are also many beautiful and large mosques in the world in Indonesia.

Indonesia is very difficult to give stereotypes, because this country is very diverse, different regions / islands you will feel different vibes and different cultures. But one thing I'm sure that this country is very crazy about Religion😆. From the time of their forefathers to the present day, they seem to be very fond of the splendor associated with religion:).

I really like this channel. Thank you for the interesting videos! I was lucky to be able to spend my summer holidays in Thailand a couple of years ago. It was in the beautiful Hua Hin region. The people were very friendly and the nature and the Buddhist temples were so impressive. Last but no least - the food. I think I never enjoyed eating so much before in my life. I even tried horseshoe crab. However - as a European, living far away from Southeast Asia, I always wonder if the different languages from that area are mutually intelligible. Do you learn each other's languages in school? Is learning the different writing systems difficult? If people from different countries of that area meet and they don't speak each other's respective language, to what language do they switch? Is it English (as most Europeans would) or do you use an(other) language(s)? Anyway. I would be pleased if anyone could explain some of my questions. Thank you in advance!

@@MattMorgasmo well all languages in south east asia countries related to their races & ethnicity, its too vast to explain in simple ways, most peoples in SEA are austronesian, the rest is austroasiatic and melanesian, austronesian have some subraces that spread in whole SEA include champ peoples (indigenous) in south vietnam before they got invaded and mix by baiyue from china, champ peoples today have their own languages but some of their langauge still derived from bahasa, thailand is also mix race from tai-kadai (north) and malay (south), malay also can be found in south phillipines, even singapore indigenous peoples is also malay, malay is a kind of subrace from austronesia that have the same language but have different pronounciation in each country Indonesia, malaysia, brunei is the largest bahasa speaker in SEA Hope thats help u lil bit

@MattMorgasmo Жыл бұрын
@@goldgen7352 That definitely helps. And not just a bit. You are both very educated and friendly; sharing your knowledge with me. I'm just trying to compare the European "situation" to the south Asian. I know it's quite different, of course, for geographical and historical reasons. But - as you know - in Europe learning English is most important. Every child learns English in school. As a 2nd language, it's French (mostly). But many people, especially in eastern Europe learn German instead. In some cases, it's not even necessary to learn other languages. For example: As I understand, people from Italy, Spain and even Portugal are able to communicate with each other without much preparation since they are all Romance language. The same goes for Danish, Norwegian and Swedish. I'm not really sure about Slavic languages. But I believe that Slavic languages are more or less mutually intelligible inside their subgroup (west Slavic, east Slavic, south Slavic). And even when it's not inside one of those groups, very basic conversation is possible between all Slavic speakers. I'm not saying I'm 100% correct about that. That's just what I learned from watching language videos on KZbin. What I find fascinating about ( east / southern) Asia is the diversity of writing systems. Latin, Thai, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Brahmic, and many more. Still you manage to communicate with each other. In Europe, it's mostly Latin letters. And of course Cyrillic. So when a Scandinavian learns a Roman language, at least the letters are mostly the same. Still, people struggle to learn each other's languages even without having to learn completely different letters or signs respectively.

Everytime when I met any foreign friend they always assumed all Indonesian Chinese speak bahasa as their first language . In Medan and the outskirts of Medan - they speak mostly dialect .
