According to people that played the game early, they added new mechanics to the swinging, like loop de loops, corner tether while swinging (like that TASM 2 scene from the intro), water-skiing while swinging (like the bridge scene in Infinity War), slingshots and super slingshots on posts like Tobey in Spider-man 1, and an improved trick system. Honestly, putting that together along with the web wings, I think Spider-man 2 might have the most robust web-swinging in any spider-man game. Also fall damage is something you can toggle.

They must've read my mind when they decided to add that TASM2 style corner tether, cause I think about it a lot 😄 now to really make it pop, I wish they added an "advanced swinging mode" and when it's on you can't "steer" in mid-air. Right now if you're flying forwards and push both sticks left or right, Spidey will do a hard turn in mid-air, and personally it just feels wrong that I can do that. The fantasy of web swinging is physics based, kinda like an extreme sport, so some of those limitations can actually make it more thrilling. And there's no downside if it's optional

Actually, it's not water gliding by swinging .. if you're momentum is at its most high, snd you drop on the water? You can somehow glide. A cool mechanic, and it's a second chance moment for you to jump off and keep on going with your web-swinging day.

Aron Ezpenozza, a worker at insomniac, said that a loop de loop (Which can be Vertical/Horizontal) is possible whenever you dive or execute a swing if your momentum is at its most high. So no. Not automated... it's momentum based again, but not stupidly difficult to handle like in the original Spider-Man 2. *Checkmate.*

So, a correction: as originally written in the comics, Eddie Brock had no grudge against Peter Parker. He only had a grudge against Spider-Man. He doesn't know Peter Parker in any way before the symbiote tells him Spider-Man is Peter Parker. This is often changed in other versions and has been probably been retconned in the comics since the 90s, but originally, Eddie Brock and Peter Parker had never met before Brock became Venom.

I wonder if they are gonna meld Yuri with the Sin-Eater. In the comics, the Sin-Eater was a police officer who killed criminals amd other people he found sinful. He also indirectly leads to the birth of Venom: Eddie Brock had published an article revealing the identity of the Sin-Eater as some schizophrenic man that confessed to him, only for Spider-Man to catch him and reveal his true identity, unknowingly ruining Eddie's reputation. Even though Venom is most likely not Eddie Brock, it would be a nice Easter Egg. Also, Yuri was created as a new version of Jean DeWolf, who is the Sin-Eater's most famous victim.

I do feel some solidarity that I am not the only one who remembers how awesome it was you got to play as Venom in Ultimate Spider-Man! You could switch between the two characters in the post game and as Venom fight the police then the military GTA style as they chase you using Venom’s Hulk like jump to traverse the city! You constantly fighting back and feeding on people to stay alive seeing how long you can last. Sure it didn’t hold a candle to GTA itself at the time but if you grew up with parents who simply "didn’t want GTA in their household" (like my folks) a Spiderman game with Venom survival mode was still special!

0:57 in Spider-Man 2, you ARE able to unlock a skill that makes you do full on "Loop de Loops" either Horizontally or Vertically due to the amount of speed and momentum that you have in your swing. Soo... better physics are in a way, back this time around. And that's not even the MANY THINGS that we can do in traversal! We can now accomplish that famous TASM 2 move when peter shot a web at the corner of a building when he swings and yanks it to make him hit a sharp turn around it... it's called a "Corner Tether" that's activated by circle either if you choose the direction for left and right. And then there's a normal slingshot that you can accimplish anywhere, greater tricks with peter, the speed of swinging and almost everything sounds to go towards unbelievable lengths, you can cooly glide on water now (like in sunset overdrive), being able to carry people and stuff during cool missions... and yes, it'll somehow affect your swinging, and then there's an option for FREAKING fall damage. And what i've said up here might not be the literal PINNACLE of what insomniac has brought or "reintroduce" back into their web swinging. They've really been working hard these past 5 years... and i believe they're going to give EVERYBODY what they *desire* next month.

It's probably not going to happen, but I'd love an uption from star or unlockable option to be able to color all costumes in the game. Let you choose the suits main color, highlights, webprint color, and whatever other bit and bobs some other costumes would need. Let players make a neon technicolor eyesore, or maybe they think this black suit would really cool with dark blue highlights and red weblines, so they put those on.

Hot take: Me personally I think Insomniac Miles is better than ITSV Miles. ITSV is great and all but it was awesome seeing Insomniac Miles finally do his own thing for once. Just so you know, there will be quite a few new things when it comes to the traversal in SM2. You got loop de loops, corner tether while swinging, surfing on water with enough speed, slingshots that you can do everywhere and the super slingshots which I believe is in some places and not everywhere. You will also be able to toggle fall damage on and off depending on what you would like, and you will also be able to customize/change the web-swing's assist or help (the base games had the swing assistance on 10 and you can now turn it down from 10 and everything between to 1) which will make the web-swing learning curve bigger and probably more fun and challenging, especially if you think that the first to games were "holding your hand" too much when swinging. This is what I can remember on the top of my head. Keep up the good work man!

Just to let you know, there are loop de loops and you can swing in a circle on the Empire State Building, just don't let go of R2, and there are hard corner web swinging turns like The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

You can't use the web wings as the only traversal method or main way to move around. You will lose height over time so you will need to swing to maintain height. I think one of previews I saw also mentioned that traversal is slower with the web wings than swinging, so if that's true you still have gain more momentum after using the web wings by swinging or if you want to maintain a certain level of momentum. I don't think any of previews I actually listened to mentioned using the web wings way more than swinging.

Great video fam, I think these are all the things i'd personally like in the game (as a fellow coder,I know how many lines of c++ I'm asking for,but still lol) : 1. Symbiote variants of every suit 2. The ability to add filters to gameplay (kinda like Uncharted did,but better) so I can play cel-shaded lol. 3.Also unique web looks for each suit,I did see the robot winged suit so hopefully there's more of that. 4. More upside down combat and fights along buildings like web of shadows. 5. A suit for Peter made by Miles would be interesting to see as well.

I agree with most of your points, except the suits, more specifically the tech oriented and over design you talk about. And while I can see what you mean from the tech part, I don’t necessarily think they are over designed in the slightest. I like the different lines and colors and I feel that adds to the more unique appeal of insomniacs spider man world they’ve made. I think it pays homage to older designs and comic designs whilst still adding a newer flair to appeal to fans of both sides. The tech stuff though, I can see why it may not be your favorite. I like it though because to me it makes it feel more dangerous in a way. The way I like to put it is, if they are more natural or mutated like they have been in the past, it comes off to me as if they are using those powers they’ve had the misfortune of being given as a way to get what they want but it rarely felt personal…scorpion and venom. But the tech adds a personal vendetta to it in my opinion. Like they really sat there and crafted this tech out specifically to hurt people. Maybe it’s just me but still it’s a interesting topic to think about

I get that the web swinging was faster in the OG Spiderman 2 (this was the Spiderman game I grew up with btw) but there were so many wonky issues with it. You could swing so fast that it literally wasn’t Spiderman anymore lol. Like if were trying to emulate what it would feel like to swing like Spiderman it 100% would not be like the OG Spiderman 2. Momentum doesn’t work like that in real life. On the other hand, the original Spiderman PS4 game had nice animations but it ultimately was way too slow. I think the new Spiderman game hits a perfect chord in balancing all of these considerations. Fancy animation, but it also has depth and more momentum. You can now sling 2 webs at a time for fast turns, you can catapult yours between any 2 buildings (and also there are super slingshots as well), momentum plays a much bigger role, better animations… Anyone arguing that the OG Spiderman 2 game has better webslinging is on crack.

I think Eddie will be in this game, because he was teased in a few small ways in the first game. But I would imagine that he would likely play a very small role in this game, with maybe a small tease at the end showing that after Venom is defeated, the symbiote finds its way to Eddie Brock. Then Eddie Venom could be one of the villains in the next game, or perhaps get a spin off game of his own similar to Miles leading up to the third entry.

The Arachknight and Shadow Spider suits are not original designs, but taken from the comics. I must say I’m indifferent about some of the deluxe suits but I’m loving the Tokusatsu suit, and Red Spectre suits for Miles.

My guess is that the Harry/Venom stuff has been a misdirect, and Venom in this game is actually going to be Kraven. In Kraven’s last hunt his mission is to kill and replace Spider-Man and he wears a replica of the black suit after finishing the job. My guess is that Insomniacs twist is that after Kraven defeats Peter, he takes the symbiote from him in an effort to prove that he can be a greater Spider-Man than Peter ever was, thus transforming into Venom.

ok hear me out: venom in this game is norman osborne, with harry being set up as the green goblin for the next game. norman as the mayor but with the symbiote attached makes a lot of cool narrative sense, and you can still do harry as green goblin after a whole game building up his relationship to peter.

i remember hearing rumors of co-op being added to the game post-release. co-op as peter and miles does sound pretty dope, but in my opinion would have been smarter to do as a launch feature. probably would drive up sales

I loved the suits in the first game, but there was not a lot of gameplay incentive or strategy in unlocking them. I mostly played as one or two suits for the whole game. I hope there is a strategic reason to unlock and then actively switch suits more!

i loved the take on doc ock in the first game. a theory I have that I think could really cool but at the same time potentially very dark is that peter/venom will eventually kill someone and they will have to deal with that. maybe separate from venom and in a final third act it will be the 2 Spiderman against him

Im planning on playing this with my brother and swapping off between spider-men. Im gonna be playing peter because I love peter as a character and the symbiote suit is just part of my identity. Have it plastered on my clothes, around my room. Just love the symbiote. And my brother is going to be playing as miles because he loves using stealth (the invisibility that miles has) and he loved infamous on the ps3. We are so excited to get our hands on this and experience it together

This. Spiderman 2 PS2 was ahead of its time: Civilians on the brink of falling, thug stealing purses, simple robbery, Ship with full of people sinking, criminal hide outs, carrying people to the hospital. Those were just simple fucking things but they helped in making the city very much alive in that game despite being too frequent and repetitive. I hope Insomniac implemented some kind of simple random things. Because I got sick from their implementation of crime activities. Stopped a simple robbery? Back up thugs on their way! Saved a guy in a truck from getting mugged? Back up guys on their way! Saved a civilian kept in a car trunk? Back up guys fuckinf again!

Honestly I would like the whole New York City and character models to be redesign to suit the skins. Like Cel shaded New York city. I think Venom is going to be its own spin-off game like Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It's gonna be Marvel's Venom. I think it'll overlap with Spider-Man 2's endgame where Peter ruins Eddie's life without even noticing he exists. Spider-Man 2's dramatic conclusion would be Peter and Miles defeating Venom by repeating the way Connors (or better yet Reed Richards lol) removes the suit from Peter albeit with more tech and ingenuity, maybe with Doc Ock's help. Then it lands on Eddie, which leads directly into his game.

I think Harry being Venom and dying will cause the creation of GG. Norman will want revenge vs. the Spider-Men/Peter. In turn making him the final boss of the Series and either killing Peter or severely traumatizing both Peter and Miles in the end. Spider-Man 3 will probably be like Arkham City/Knight with the villains running rampant and having the city on lock, and their own parts of the city to save. Carnage comes to life being a secret boss where you have to hunt down clues of a serial killer, who in turn is Carnage/Cassidy.

Fall damage is in the game as a toggle-able option. This is so easy to confirm lol, it was confirmed on Friday of last week.

My biggest complaint about the swinging is speed. It looks and feels fantastic, but it always feels like the game is arbitrarily slowing you down to keep you at a consistent speed. You either move really slow or just average speed and even when you’re doing dives, once the swing is over, you’re right back to your speed before the dive. It always feels like the momentum you gain is taken away on the next swing. I don’t know if I’m explaining this right but you can’t go really really fast, it’s just not possible, even the highest speed you go it doesn’t feel very quick, for me at least. I also think after multiple playthroughs you get too used to it. I think based off the gameplay it has shown improvement though, especially the speed of the web wings, also the swing tricks from Miles’ game gives a lot of player agency and makes it more fun too. Other than that I think the game looks great, definitely gonna be a solid A tier game.

I agree. The web swinging has weird momentum, it seems like the case is still the same for Spiderman 2, they only increased the web swing speed but didn't fixed the momentum issues. There's no proper follow up on the swings when you go fast, sudden change of direction or sudden stops/slow downs. They often lead up to stagnant momentum or it forces it to gear 1 again. There's no proper weight or dare I say "Physics." That being said the game is still exciting, we should just simply accept that no developers can replicate what Treyarch did for Spiderman 2, Ultimate Spiderman and Web of Shadows in terms of the web swinging system.

Ok, hear me out, what if Venom in this game is actually Peter when the symbiote fully takes over, you play as him with the black suit to the point of the game where loses control and turns to Venom. Then he defeats Kraven to give an end the whole hunting thing making him the apex predstor. Final boss is that Venom and you fight him as Miles trying to stop him from destroying the city of something.
