yawn...... I hope 5 years later you have come to realise that some of your "straight A" grades are due in part to your teachers whether or not they were that dedicated or ambitious - plus how would you know how ambitious or dedicated they were? Nice - make a negative comment about teachers based on a video that is supposed to be giving teachers a boost of confidence. What your teacher didn't make you: appreciative.

Why do you suppose the person who illustrated with the video felt the need to censor the poem? That's not honest. Which is what this poem is about. It deserves better.

This is so great. I've had some amazing teachers and I'm blessed to have had them. Except, the teachers who wouldn't let me go to the bathroom always pissed me off. The difference between teaching and what is done in schools today is the lack of respect now put into education. We have the bottom of the barrel teaching the hopeful. Make a difference; don't sit back and ignore this. Get mad, and make something of it.

Sorry, the only point I see is the way this guy thinks who the hell he is. As if without him, my son would become an idiot. Bottom line is, if my son asks his teacher to go to the bathroom, it's because he has to go to the bathroom. He doesn't need this guy's PERMISSION. He's TELLING him, not ASKING him...

Damn, I find it so weird that in the states, teaching is such an unrespected job. Here, yeah we bitch about our teachers, especially us teens, but it's not seen as an unworthy profession, especially not primary school teaching. Secondary, eh, it's not vetted enough I feel, some teachers are kinda lousy, but it's still considered important. Teaching isn't something you just do because you suck at everything else, and I hate that the states seem to view that profession that way.

In my high school I had some of the BEST damn teachers I could ask for. If I needed to talk they were there, if I need to report a bully and I didn't want my name mentioned I could. My high school was one of the top 20 in the state of Wisconsin and its because of my teachers. They helped me apply for colleges. They cried with me when I got accepted to my dream school. They hugged me at my graduation and said "I'm proud" My teachers started programs for homeless students. They were my superheroes

When I tell people that I'm going to college to be a teacher I'm met with reactions of, "Ew, why? You don't get that much money." Well guess what. I'm not doing it because of the shit pay (which I think is horrible, teachers have a huge influence on kids yet it's a really low paying job), I'm doing it for the kids.

i know, i left out some details. but where i live there's literally NO demand for teachers, and you'd think that they'd do their jobs well. also, they chose to go through years of schooling just to become a teacher so it's not like they were forced into it. honestly, i understand if they have kids and all, but they really shouldn't use that excuse about teacher's salary.
@EliteCitrus
@EliteCitrus 11 жыл бұрын
most teachers don't care about teaching... at least the high school ones. and i hate the whole "teacher's salary" shtick because it doesn't solve anything, we know what you make, and 40k+ is quite a lot for someone saying "c'mon guys, teacher's salary" all the time, especially if you live alone and evidently don't spend a lot.

Who taught you English? Who taught you maths?Who made you the person you are today? Teachers, all of which are important. You don't need to have loved school to know they are all important, and it is inconceivably ridiculous that anyone in society should think anything otherwise. You, are the one who is the blight on society. Learn to love, to appreciate what is given to you, to treat others with respect. This man is fighting for his fellow teachers. He's clearly talking about teachers that have a passion for what they do and truly care about their students but are viewed as lesser simply because of what they make. Chances are, those teachers you say are "shitty," were once very eager to teach but have taken so much bullshit from arrogant assholes and horrible students that the flame died out. It's the saddest thing in the world. I watched the flame go out in my favorite teacher in just one short year. This poem is truth.

Not saying the poet is wrong, I'm sure he's an awesome one but not every single teacher deserves to feel this way because the vast majority are not special snowflakes and all they do is get paid to pass out worksheets/packets, belittle/ignore their students, and babysit... I myself only knew of 3 teachers at my HS who were the most upstanding, diverse, and intelligent human beings to ever teach. It's horrible that in over 10 years of school, I can only remember 3 individuals who actually cared.

Most most teachers have it damn tough and deserve a thousand times more respect than they get, but then there are people like this guy. Believe it or not, most of the problems kids have are not with you, sir, its with the system. Usually kids really DO have to go to the bathroom. It is not your job to make kids feel like shit either. Kids don't do well sitting in silence. Teaching should not be based on discipline, it should be based on, you know, TEACHING.

My only real issue with that kind of comment is the fact that you suggest going into the performing arts is something highly rated. The truth is, the vast majority of people trying to be actors or singers are struggling to make ends meet. I think it's only fair that if they do get successful in it, that it pays off. That being said, in the U.S teachers just aren't given much, and it affects the quality of learning of the students.

The bathroom thing bothers me a lot. I know a lot of kids use the bathroom as an excuse to get out of class, but what about the rest of us? I had to get a doctor's note saying I could use the bathroom as needed because I suffer urinary frequency from kidney problems and pcos, because teachers did not believe me when I asked to go once during an hour and a half long class. Hate to break it to you, but I'm not learning or paying attention when I'm distracted by how badly I have to pee. :/

This person is not a great teacher. They are a bully on a power trip. Yes, actually, I did need to use the bathroom. Yes, you did make that A- feel like a slap in the face, which is why I tried to off myself in 4th grade after you degraded me for it in front of the entire class, when I was supposed to be the "smart one". No, making me show my work NEVER made me better at math, it just got me confused and distracted.

As a future educator, I am disappointed in how society has created school. Bad teachers are being protected! Professional educators have taken a blow; those teachers get the students from the bad teachers and those students havelow self-esteem and low belief in their worth value because of those teachers. It's a shame! Then the rest of society is two-faced in its opinion. Many push for education but some believe like this lawyer: that being a good professional educator is a meaningless job.

I had the most awful teachers while growing up. I never was the brightest kid in many classes and I always tried really hard to understand but instead of being helped by my teachers, they called stupid, they made faces when i didn't understand something, they made me go in front of the entire classroom even though they knew I didn't understand and they let know my classmates when I failed a test. That's why I want to be a teacher so I won't make they same mistakes they did with me.

Teachers have to live with knowledge that what they are teaching their kids will live with them forever. They have to role models for not just 15 - 30 kids but for the whole school and every year, there is a different batch of kids who you have to know names and was makes them tick and what makes them wanna learn all in one. You think teachers don't get sleep? PLEASE try grading 100 - 150 tests WITH essays in a night AND have a live and kids on top. Teachers are the building blocks of the world.

Our school's policy was to not let you go ever at all ever ever ever. The 10 minutes in between changing classes was supposed to be enough for you to go to your locker, get to your next class, have a shit and still get back to class on time. I was a good student, but many times I just left class or ditched during fire drills to go take a piss/poop. Classes were an hour and a half long, 10 minutes wasn't always enough.

You do realize that even after the basic schooling they go through that they still have to go through MORE schooling right? Teachers are mandated to take at least one college class (or maybe more) a year, which costs them money. Teachers work harder than most other people in other professions. They work more than the typical 8 hour work day, spending up to 12+ hours of their time grading papers and making sure children in their class pass. Salary is a big thing.

He says some alright things, and he also says some things that sound like a power trip. Teachers can be great, and great teachers are amazing, and I think that it's unfortunate that people don't value what teachers have to offer or the great things they do for kids. But there's also plenty of reasons that people resent teachers, or feel like teachers have hindered them and hurt them and abused them, or that the school system hindered them. And those students' feelings are valid, too.

Honestly, I wish I had more teachers who wanted to communicate with their students and try to not only teach me about the physics of a projectile or how to graph a parabolic equation but also teach me WHY I need to know this. Why having the ability to do these are so important in life. I bet if I learned that way, I would make much higher marks. I wouldn't feel so pressured to do it because I remember it, but because I understand it and can literally teach it to a kindergartner without a problem

I love the kind of teacher described in this video, however, most of the teachers I have had (barring 3 that do fit this description) just don't care about teaching well, don't do their freaking jobs, basically demand that I worship them because they are a teacher, refuse to answer bigger questions (like "why?) and constantly shoot down any instances of creativity, ingenuity or innovation that doesn't fit in perfectly with the lesson plan.

Honestly, that was part of the final -- to plan ahead so that you wouldn't have to leave the room to, ostensibly, from any educator's point of view, cheat by getting extra time to review, collude with a classmate, or look up the answers. NO teacher and NO test will let you leave the room during a test just as you can't leave the room during your shift or during a meeting at work in the future. You chose to guess on those questions; your teacher did not make you make that choice, OR that grade.

lol not being able to go to the bathroom in a 40 minute time span gets you heated? is that what REALLY gets you heated? if a student can't hold it than they either have a health problem or it's a girl who needs to take care of herself. Those are the only absolute reasons kids in class need to go to the bathroom. Like he says in his poem, he makes kids work harder than they ever thought they could. If that includes learning to hold it or pay attention for 5 extra minutes, so be it.

The teaching profession in public schools has a very bad image right now for a lot of different reasons. America's education system is nearly in complete ruins, and it seems like the only people who want to fix it (the teachers themselves) are the ones that can't. It's the higher ups who have that power and they don't give a shit because they don't understand what our schools need, only the teachers do.

He uses "make," as in to create, not "make," as in force. I don't agree with everything he's expressed in this video, but he is a teacher who cares and is passionate about his students, so I find this inspiring. I had a learning disability, and I've seen the worst and best of teachers as a result, and no matter what, if that teacher cared regardless of their methods, they were a good teacher. Which is why I'm going to school to become a good teacher who cares.

Teachers do inspire and motivate.As a teacher you must have balance in your classroom.In a class full of first graders I must MAKE them do a lot of things that they don't want to do but I also inspire them to be creative.In the real world they must work in groups but they must also learn how to think for themselves.Yes,Put your hand down.You know how to do this.Sit in silence because in many work places you must be quiet some of the time.Students have to be taught what the real world is like.

not a big fan of this. as teachers we should inspire and motivate our students. not MAKE them. that's their choice, but we have to help them see the reason why the things we teach are important. A- feeling like a slap in the face?? is grades really all what it's about? who's to say that the student who got a C really didn't try his best? i will not make my students sit in silence. do we live our lives in silence? communication and group work is important. questioning is important! Thank you! Whenever a child is behind, it is so easy to blame the teacher. We as teachers have no control over the level of proficiency of students entering our classrooms. We many times have to undo years of neglect on the part of the parent, in order to bring these kids up to grade level.People always are so quick to blame the teacher for everything, we do not create problematic students, whether it is behavioral or academic, these students come to us that way!

I'm not sure if you are trolling, but in case you aren't, I thought you may benefit from some information. Teachers aren't lazy. They are motivated by progress in the classroom, not money. Teachers only contribute a small portion of a student's success. Students have to care about learning and that comes from outside influences such as parent involvement. 30 years ago, if a student was failing, the parents blamed the student. Now, the parents blames the teacher. Why?

Also, the provisions include helping individuals who make less than 44,000 a year get a tax credit to pay for coverage. That's better than I will ever get for myself in the next 4 years while in college. All Americans deserve care. We are wasting money by not covering people, because someone has to pay for the care of the homeless and the poor, meaning the tax payers take the burden. Universal care is the only way forward. There is a reason why life expectancy is higher in Canada and the UK.

My insurance company can no longer punish me for being a woman and needing birth control (which I need to treat endometriosis) and exams. Insurance companies are fine with covering Cialis or Viagra, which is only used for ED, but when a woman needs hormonal birth control they refuse to cover it. My insurance has shot up to 250 a month because I have a seizure disorder. That is as much as rent for many Americans. I am not out of college yet and cannot afford to pay that on my own.

For a university educated person you really don't show that aspect of yourself very well. I'm a slightly left of center moderate with some Libertarian views, except for when it comes to social aid. Obama is making a better system than we have now. I don't really approve of the way he is implementing it, but it's a heck of a lot better than having half of America without any insurance.

Listen, we have to have good teachers. They need higher education themselves and SHOULD get higher pay. Intelligent people are going to look for better jobs if they can't get a living wage. They are teaching YOUR CHILDREN the necessities of living in the modern world and taking care of them all day. They have to make sure they are healthy and safe at school. You need to pay people who serve your family members. It can't be free. Without a proper education our children do not have a future.
