TLDR: It’s tough, but it’s great to work with your hands and build something. We do everything, like duct work (tin knocking), electrical, carpentry/framing, masonry, running pipe (black iron, copper, and PVC), and even landscaping and more. 6 years into it, 100% hands on training in the field, 0 schooling for it (except high school). Did 3 years in the Army, and never thought I’d be doing this, just kinda fell into after getting out and interviewing at the guy my dad contracted for as a plumber. Told him I was swinging a hammer since I was 3-4 “helping” Dad around the house, and a week later I started as helper full time and haven’t stopped since (even worked during lockdown).

The foreman I’m working for is the exact opposite he does all he difficult stuff he doesn’t trust his workers to do. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing lol
