I was raised in Karachi, Pakistan a city where many Hakka people immigrated to several decades ago. There are now 2nd and 3rd generation Hakka people living in Karachi. They have opened many restaurants in the city, which locals just call Chinese food. One of the things I missed most when I moved to Toronto in 1998 was Pakistani-Hakka cuisine. Luckily shortly after Frederick's was found followed by tons of others. Now Toronto and surrounding areas boast tons of Indian/Paistani-Hakka restaurants in every neighbourhood. Since a majority of their customers are muslim most Hakka restaurants serve halal food by default.
@lilianling63487 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! If you're able to give me the information for some of these restaurants run by Hakka Chinese, I'd love to hear about them. On my website, www.HakkaChineseFood.com, I've been compiling a worldwide Hakka restaurant list so it would be great to add some Pakistani representation. I rely on word-of-mouth for many of the restaurants outside of North America.

So umm..is it kinda like hmong?
@hakkachinesefood21727 жыл бұрын
Interesting suggestion, thanks for alerting me to this. I had never heard of the Hmong people before. But after looking it up, they do have a lot of similarities to the Hakka. I found this information about genealogy of the Hakka which suggests there is only 13% She (or Hmong) within the Hakka DNA: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14577381
@liongkienfai1047 жыл бұрын
It's similar but it's not the best comparison. The Hmong are an ethnic group. The Hakka are a linguistic/cultural group within the Han Chinese ethnic group. The Hmong are not the majority in any country, but the Han are the majority in China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Singapore. The Hakka and Hmong also have no linguistic or cultural ties. The last sentence in the link you provided is also a bit iffy as it suggests that the Hakka language is not a Sinitic language to begin with, but instead a Hmong-Mien language. This couldn't be farther from the truth. The Hakka language is a remnant of the Chinese spoken during the Tang dynasty (Middle Chinese). It's more similar to Gan Chinese, Yue (Cantonese) Chinese and even Min Chinese. If there is any Hmong influence in the Hakka culture or language it is extremely minimal.

It is incorrect to say that the Hakkas are nomadic.
@hakkachinesefood21728 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching my video and making a comment. When I described Hakkas as being nomadic, I was basing it on the definition that "nomads" are a community of people who move around and live in different locations. Just curious, what makes you disagree with this description?
@爱客-l7r8 жыл бұрын
The definition of nomads is that they are a community of people moving around with no permanent home. Hakkas move to escape war, famine, other disasters in search of a permanent home. The various provinces in southern China are already Hakkas permanent homes as they have settled there for centuries. Of course, from there, some have moved on for better pastures. They will settle down instead of moving on like nomads who do not intend to settle down.

"hakka" have two speech, one is "hak ka",an other one is "kak ga"。
@hakkachinesefood21727 жыл бұрын

There's a dozen variants of the Hakka language out there. Just because it doesn't pertain to your specific dialect it doesn't mean it's wrong. Likewise a Texan cannot tell an Aussie that his English is incorrect, because they're simply different variants of the language.
