This is ridiculous and inhumane to call police on someone because of 43 cent. there's this gas station at my area( 7 eleven) that I sometimes buy coffee from, there was a day I bought coffee of $1;89 and I forgot to pay before going in to my car, immediately I cranked my car I realized that I did not pay for the coffee I rushed back inside the store to apologize for not paying, but the lady there did something amazing, by telling me to go without paying for the coffee that sometimes it happens that people do forget to pay for the least item that they bought that she had already paid for me with her money. but I asked her why didn't she call me back or stopped me from walking away with the coffee? she said is a waste of time. next time I went there I suprised her with a gift that she least expected. let us always show love ❤ to humanity!

It is ridiculous. One of my nephews was a night manager of a shop like that. Had a poor employee that wasn’t able to afford enough food. He let her take home the food that was going to be thrown out. When confronted by his boss, said he’d do it again; it would be sinful to throw out food in front of someone who could eat it and wanted it. It was destined for the dumpster as no one had bought it in the time frame allowed. They both got fired. Here’s to more people like the story you told.

INDEED. Joseph Sobolewski, a 38 year old homeless man, went into a convenience store in Perry County (PA) in August to buy a bottle of soda. The advertised price of the Mountain Dew was two for $3. Sobolewski paid $2 for one bottle and walked out. The price for a single bottle, however, was $2.29 plus tax, meaning he was 43 cents short. The store called the police on Sobolewski, who was arrested and charged with a felony under the state’s “three strikes law” for retail theft. He had been convicted more than a decade ago for a theft and in 2011 for stealing a pair of shoes. The law doesn’t take into account the value of the item in the third theft charge. A criminal docket shows Sobolewski was arrested as he awaited trial because he was unable to post a $50,000 cash bond. The bond was later modified to be “unsecured” after an appeal by his public defender, meaning Sobolewski was able to be released without giving money to the court, although the amount remains the same. It’s unclear if the charge will hold - the law requires proof that the theft was an intentional crime rather than a misunderstanding over the full value of an item.

I am British but live in Norway and food smuggling is very common here. There is a very high sugar tax and a lot of food is imported and import taxes are high. Pre- Covid, it was very common for people to drive six hours plus to cross the eastern border and shop in Sweden, mostly for soda, candy and processed meats like bacon. There were social media groups who shared trips. Then the border closed as part of the corona lockdown, but people still crossed illegally- mostly on foot as the Swedish stores were not far away- so much so that the police and military ended up patrolling the border- mostly through pine forests. To catch overweight millennials living out their heroes of Telemark fantasies while carrying tactical camo rucksacks crammed with GummiBears. Makes that KFC look pretty cool, no?

@Jacqueline Cadence I haven't fact-checked your statement but am happy to agree in broad terms- Covid has killed a lot of people. But I think you are missing that the statistical and scientific truths are irrelevant to the anti-vaxxers, mask refusers, microchip conspiracists and so on. These people are totally driven by emotion, they don't engage in rational thought. Reality has to fit their emotions, not vice versa. Radicalisation requires an immature and excessive need to feel a sense of belonging and purpose- to be "significant"- plus a narrative to follow and a community who support that narrative. Trump gave them the narrative and the internet provided the community. Changes in American society and the global economy meant that being male and white no longer guaranteed you all the kudos it previously did, leaving a huge sense of disappointed entitlement that was ripe for political exploitation. I don't really blame the "foot soldiers" the who are mostly hurting and misled- but the leaders who know exactly what is happening but are doing it anyway? Largely they are traumatised and personality disordered- but that doesn't make it ok. Mary Trump is dead right.

I need to point out that there is an episode of South Park in which Cartman corners the market on smuggling KFC. These guys aren't original but I enjoyed the reminder 🤣

There was a science fiction story about a person who traveled into the past, inadvertently killed a single moth and when they returned to present day they found out that all of humanity had changed genetically. Maybe the spotted lantern fly is necessary for human existence in the Future.....intelligent design and all that.....

For what to tell us Indigenous people we don't have a right to tell people stop wearing our regalia as a costume?! Inquiring minds would like to know

@@MegaCassie83 No, as a joke, to lighten the mood in a central European classroom and get my students thinking about the holiday from a different angle. My students have no experience with any indigenous peoples, outside (debatably) the Roma, so I would hope the comment might make them consider where the lines between understanding, borrowing, acknowledging and misappropriating might fall.

It's very crazy to know that in the United States you can be arrested for 43 cents. Here in Brazil we have the "principle of insignificance" for petty theft, where you will not be arrested, as it is clear the expense to investigate and arrest someone for theft of something of little value is greater than just applying a socio-educational measure to the person.

This world is so messed up, seriously arresting someone for $.43😡
