As a Messi fan ,I got to admit Lewy desrves the award this year around. There's a false narrative that he was only good in 2020 , and I took believed that. I hated him tbh because I want messi to win his 7th. Hence started watching his games ,and he played good in every single game. It is kind of unfortunate that Lewa performance was not finalized after France football announced the cancel in 2020. Copa America is compared to Euro level because it is Intercontinental Cup. It is natural that these cup is always bigger than UCL. Go back to 00 - 09, not many UCL winner winning Ballon d'Or. And football is not only about goal. What is funny and pathetic at the same time, is the fact that Messi in 2020 for "The best" award voted for 1. Neymar, 2. Mbappe 3. Lewandowski, and then he said at The Ballon d'Or 2021 that Lewy deserved the 2020 Ballon d'or which is a very two-faced thing to say under these conditions. Diego Milito won 5 trophies with Inter in 2010 (Seria A, Copa Italia, UCL, Club World Cup and Super Copa) . He was arguably their best and most important player during the 2009/10 season. He was Inter's top goal scorer and he scored 30 goals that season (14 more than any other Inter Milan Player) which included 22 in the league and 6 in the UCL. Was 2nd top scorer in Serie A and 3rd top scorer in UCL. Diego Milito scored the only goal in the Copa Italia final against Roma and also scored in the Semi Final against Fiorentina, scored the winning goal in the last match of Serie A that won Inter the league, Milito bagged a brace against FC Bayern in the UCL final and also scored in the round of 16, QF and SF of the UCL against Chelsea, CSKA and Barcelona. He also scored several other decisive goals that season. Despite doing all this, Diego Milito wasn't even nominated for the Ballon D'or in 2010. ( Not even among the top 23 players in the world? )

The Ballon D'or is seriously flawed because of different aspects: 1. It should crown the best player of the year (I would say from voting stop to voting stop). But it heavily favors the first 6-7 months. Nobody seeing Messi in the last months would say that he is the best football player. Whereas players like Salah, Benzema and Lewy outperform him by quite a margin. 2. Defensive players are ignored as if they would not contribute to the success of a team. Just look at the past winners. It's more like who has the better KZbin compilation. 3. I got the feeling they prefer popular football players for advertisement (Ronaldo & Messi). How many CL titles did Leo win without Xavi? 0. Additionally Xavi won 2 European and 1 World Championship. Nevertheless he never won a single Ballon D'Or. 4.With regards to number 2, Leo Messi (and to some degree other popular forwards) does not know the word defense. And in this sense, he is a liability for his teams but apparently this isn't taken in consideration.
