I have the R41M. $85 from Costco and I also got the 12SW Klipsch for $169 also from Costco. Let me tell you, they sound very nice together. And for the price, considering it's just for the living room, Wow! we are very satisfied. I was going to buy some bookshelf's in the $600 dollar range but bought these because of Costco's return policy and I have decided to keep them. Very pleasant listening with my Sony AV receiver.

Hey Danny maybe I missed it but you never said which model the Elac was? I am guessing ELAC Debut 2.0 C6.2 Center but I am not sure. I was thinking about ELAC Debut 2.0 C6.2 Center vs. ELAC Debut 2.0 C5.2 Center, what are your thoughts? I would be replacing the Infinity Entra point 5 center channel. My right and left are Wharfedale Valdus 400SE, surround and sub are the Entra point five as well. When I listan to music I do so on the DCM Timeframe DF700. AVR is Onkyo NR7100

What happen if you take the klipsch "that have better measurements than every other klipsch that has been in there" (apparently also measure better than RP-600m.) If you take two center channels and put the tweeter at ear height and turn the speaker vertical. Then you have one woofer on top and the other below the tweeter. For 2ch setup we will have a nice MTM setup! And two woofers instead of one compared to RP-600m... Cost aside, does that make sense?

Well I won’t speak for him but just because a speaker “measures better” does not mean it sounds as good. I think that’s the problem with audio today...so many people listen with their eyes. By that I mean you make all your audio decisions based on a THD number, or a frequency response plot, or off axis results...you don’t listen to numbers. I don’t think Danny is saying the R-41m sounds better than a RP-600m.

I have those as surrounds as well and was able to fit two poly caps in there, though I used the existing crossover board and left the inductors. I also replaced the sand cast resistors while I was at it and I have to say I was impressed with the outcome. Overall, the top and mid-bass/bass was just smoother with better clarity. My front stage are the RP series and after the upgraded, to me it feels like it's a better timbre match with my fronts now; not exact, but good enough.

@@charlessailer4580 Yes, polypropylene caps will be much bigger than the stock electrolytic caps. Since these speakers are on the budget side I didn't want to spend to much so I just replaced capacitors and resistors. I replaced the components with the same values as the original and like Danny mentioned in the video, this speaker did measure well so only reason to change value is to alter the sound signature. I wouldn't even want to try cross 20cm cone woofer to 28mm tweeter, unless in a large waveguide. Really I have no idea what kind of crazy idea Dynaudio people had making them. The woofer starts beaming below 1kHz so you get huge hole in the midrange with peaks from cone break-ups. And it needs steep filters too. But add dome midrange, cross it around 700Hz and 3kHz - should make a good loudspeaker with even freq resp and some tunning options.

Which speaker manufacturer would you say has been consistent, over the years, for great: sound, build, and double duty on music/home theater performance. I’m a big Klipsch fan, but after seeing enough from you I’ve noticed they aren’t as “quality” as I once thought. I still love them, but if there are better options out there I’d like to hear them. I’m a big NHT fan as well, but I’ve not been doing A LOT of critical listening of musically for many years now. I’m mainly home theater. It blows my mind that KLIPSCH would go anywhere near 4 ohms when rated at 8ohms consistently. People buy them partly because they’re “supposed” to be easier to drive with less power required. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This is the reason you don’t want an mtm for a center channel it seems. Off axis will always be horrible which defeats the purpose of a home theatre center channel. So vertically aligned tweeter and midrange is the way to go always. I wonder how a w mtm w would measure off axis with the midrange slightly under and the tweeter over both the mid ranges. Kind of like a triangle pattern.

Another great video Danny. Thank you. I own an older Klipsch RC-61 Center and the literature on that speaker mentions that only one of the two woofers plays up to meet the tweeter. This was done to help eliminate or reduce the lobing associated with an MTM designed turned on its side. Two questions. 1) Does that Klipsch have the same design or is it just a traditional MTM? 2) Do you recommend this method when turning and MTM on its side for a center channel? Or is the better solution to push the mids as close to the tweeter as possible?
@pliedtka
@pliedtka 3 жыл бұрын
Center channels are waste of money to me. Best would be to regular loudspeaker without the MTM holes of axis. But then most people put them under the TV and low height is preferred. Best would be to have two woofers run to say 400-700Hz, then small mid with tweeter above it mid with higher crossover point say 4kHz. In this configuration one has more flexibility voicing the spkr correctly.

Hey Danny. You are in demand. I can appreciate an external crossover may not be the right thing in your mind, but why not? Most of us have had a laptop before and always it comes with the external power supply, so we're all used to cables and boxes. It's never a clean situation behind the audio components anyway, but cost aside (if it's not a crazy price), personally I'd love to have a snazzy-styled 'GR Research' custom box with the name of the speaker it's designed for...especially if an extra tube connects can be installed that allows for the original crossover to stay and be bypassed if necessary (cuz, you know, sometimes people can lose their custom GR RESEARCH box). Thanks. Secondly, have you thought about expanding your business to help you with video production, maybe hire someone to field the emails for you, etc? It could all be done remotely from anywhere in the world these days. You have friends who post KZbin videos of binaural speaker auditions, so why not, as an idea, post before/after videos of your crossover work? Linus Sebastian, a Canadian tech KZbinr who has I think ten million subscribers did so by hiring people to help him with just this (and he makes serious money from KZbin as well). They've answered my emails, and you can imagine how many emails they must get every day. One thing that I would be interested in as a customer buying your speaker kit would be links to partner wood/cabinet makers near or in my area. This way if I want a beautiful assembly and don't have the space (I Iive in an apartment/condo) or the ability or the time - it could happen, COVID-19 won't last forever - I could have help. Fortunately I have a friend wood worker who is willing to help, but not everyone does. Bike shops assemble all the bikes they sell, so why not the odd audiophile shop? I know it's a DIY thing, and you'll always have that growing customer base, but how can I get a GR RESEARCH X-Static speaker if I don't want to build it? And of course the word will continue to spread in different ways. It's marketing, basically. Who knows? Your knowledge and skills are valuable to me. Thank you.

@@patrickmiller4987 No It really was making it sound bad plugging into the LF. The speakers were the same distance far from the wall with, bi-am, LF in w/jumpers, HF in w/jumpers. Admittedly it was just one song I was picking up on this tho. I did have the 590's slammed into the corners at one point which was real bad, but very effective at rattling everything in the whole house.

Danny, love your videos, but they’re making you more popular....you’re gonna have to hire someone to answer all those emails, or start directing folks through an automated Q&A to weed out the nonsense. Do it sooner rather than later, for your sanity!

Did he mix up the impedance curves? Klipsch has the reputation for being easy to drive, Elac has the LOW impedance. Ooops!

You're talking about sensitivity. Klipsch are some of the most sensitive speakers in that budget range.

I was just working on it a few minutes ago. I had to walk away from it for a while. Their drivers, by far, measure worse than any of the other speakers on the table.

I hear this over and over again. MTM speakers suffer from wave cancelation. People like to say it but nobody moves a mic around testing it. Given the thirst for youtube content and the simplicity of such a test, content I can only conclude the whole idea is vapor.

I Love your stuff man. I swear...have a lot of speakers...Klipsch, Elac's, JSE's , even some Bose 901's, God forbid. I love to swap speakers out in my living room for different sounds. My JSE's are 125 lbs each, so they stay in my man cave and those are the ones that for some reason, when I use those, the cops show up. I think they have something in the crossovers that call the cops. But today, I had some Sony SSCS5's that I bought for 73 bucks off Amazon. A friend came over and could not believe the sound coming out of the things. Now I had a sub...but those little speakers for 73 bucks? Really? He couldn't believe it. Now granted, I'm running these things with some quality amps...But those little Sony's...Folks if you want to have some fun, for 73 bucks...It's a deal. They sound better than some of my 600 dollar bookshelves...I like what you said about the Elac's. I'm warming up to them.

Do you have upgrade kits for the Klipsch R28 floor standing speaker? is this speaker worth the upgrade?

How do you know it is a truck stop t shirt?? Give the man some credit. Like "running with the bulls" in spain. I bet it is a souvenir shirt from the "running with the cheetahs" event he did on his african trip to Namibia. OBVIOUSLY he survived and wears the shirt with immense PRIDE......

I rarely buy my own cloths so who knows. I do know that someone gave it to me. And that someone knows I'm into speed. So it fit with my personality and it was a nice print.

"passive crossovers sound better than active crossovers for the dynaudio" Complete and utter nonsense. With any speaker and with everything else being equal, putting passive crossover component such as an inductor in series with the woofer will no longer allow the amp to have complete control over the woofer because the inductor is between the woofer and the amp. This leads to a decrease in transient response (tight sounding bass) from the woofer.
TWEAKING the GOOD ONES! Klipsch, Elac, Dynaudio and SVS!
