“It reveals that the emperor has no clothes,” journalist Peter Baker says of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s armed mutiny in Russia on June 23 in this excerpt from the FRONTLINE documentary “Putin’s Crisis.”
This journalism is made possible by viewers like you. Support your local PBS station here: www.pbs.org/donate.
“It reveals that it is conceivable to stand against him,” Baker says. “And if you’re Putin, you’re looking around that room and you’re saying, ‘Which of these people has a knife in his belt? Which of these people might be thinking about moving on me next?’”
“Putin’s Crisis” will be available to watch in full at pbs.org/frontline and in the PBS App starting July 11, 2023, at 7/6c.
Drawing on both new interviews and the team’s years of reporting on the Russian leader, the documentary tells the inside story of Putin’s rise, his clashes at home and abroad, and how his war on Ukraine led to unexpected new challenges to his power.

Most of any intelligence I have, is connected to PBS. You give information, but also you give the confidence to believe one can learn. This from one who never finished highschool. I went on to be sought out to be a teacher. Can't spell but became a sign painter who would make mistakes. Can't do basic math but aced physics at a highschool level. Could kick my doctor's husband butt at jeapody. PBS, I pass the word on. ✨💙✨💜✨💚✨🇺🇸😊

Prighozens only mistake was not taking Moscow that day. The Russian army litteraly laid down their weapons and allowed them to pass. It wss truly incredible. They could have taken Moscow without a single bullet fired! So crazy! But Prighozin felt he made his message clear and thought he could now negotiate with Putin from a place of power . He was wrong, Putin mever gives up the power. He let Prighozin cool off. Let his guard down. Snd then he had him taken out. It was excellently played by Putin and terribly fumbled by Prighozin.

true and he could have been worse than putin but now we will never know. What didnt make sense to me is why prigo went about business as usual like there wasnt a huge target on his back after that. He didnt seem like a dumb guy at all so surely he knew they would be after him when even i knew they would be especially when others have been taken out for much less. Knowing that i dont know why he was even in russia still let alone getting on an airplane of all things and flying near moscow like he thought nothing was going to happen to him. I guess anything is possible and theres a chance it could have all been fake maybe to draw out any kremlin opposition or something but idk i just though that was a bit odd he didnt go into hiding to prolong his lifespan or maybe he was that naive to think they wouldnt take him out

This reminds me a lot of the RSF vs. Army battle that's been going on Sudan. When fascists and despots collaborate, they never stay together, because they each want power for themselves. The same happened when the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany agreed to carve up Poland; that pact failed because both wanted the other's territory.

Oh, for crying out loud. It couldn't be more obvious what mutiny does to any psychotic leader. "...the emperor has no clothes"??? That's a terrible analogy and metaphor, people need to stop reaching for words and terms they don't understand. Like football; unless you're on a team in a game, there's no "It's fourth and long yardage" for us to complete our bid or finish our meetings at work, etc...

The only way he could hang on to the feeling, he will steal the votes. Make it so that he is the president until he dies. That country needs be democratic and cut Korea loose. The following info just about sums up what type of country Americans are living in today...General Ben Partin was the expert's expert"when it came to high explosives and bomb-damage analysis, for his 25 years in research, design, development, test and management, of armaments and explosives. Including "hands-on work" at the Ballistic Research Laboratories, and Commander of the Air Force Armament Technology Laboratory. When a man of his stature uses terms such as "conclusive proof" and "evidence shows", especially when writing about high explosives and bomb analysis, lawmakers from both sides of the isle should have taken decisive and immediate action when they received his report in August 1995, after Ben's numerous requests to brief lawmakers were either forwarded to Federal LE or to a A full copy of the report was sent to Senator Trent Lott, the Senate Intelligence Chair, and a summary was sent to all 535 members of Congress, 8 Senators who received it are still office, 7 Senators and one President. In addition a member of Federal LE where his requests were forwarded, currently sits on the DHS advisory board, Jamie Gorelick, the Deputy A.G.
