So far, 97 does a decent enough job at being it's own show while referencing what happened in the original 90s series every now and then. I do agree that It can be hard to remember all of X-Men Lore, but if you know enough, I'm sure you'll have a good time.

@@g2.a6 they've retconned Nightcrawlers origin to Chris Claremonts original idea for Kurt. Kurt's mother is Irene Adler (destiny) she's Mystiques wife, and Mystique is the "Father". Destiny and Mystique together raised Rogue. So basically both Kurt's biological Parents are Rogues adopted Parents. Irene is aware Mystique is a woman they're a Queer couple.

Yeah, their a lot like the fantastic four in that sense. They were created as a superhero team first rather than individuals who later form a group. So they focus more on working and interacting together with their other members, which is probably why that is (Spider-Man has his own separate supporting cast/friends outside avengers and etc but for X-men the X-men are their own supporting cast)

I do have to admit it is going fast. Speed is not always a bad thing. Sometimes it can help get the point of cross but sometimes if you know so just be a super whiplash effect and I think this show experiencing that. Middle ground so far, but I do think they have to have some knowledge to enter this show even if you watch the show briefly but do like they explain some things

I love the new X-Men show!!! I grew up watching the old one and a few years ago binged the entire series + X-Men evolution, so I already had a good grasp on what was going on. Because of the new show X-Men has completely consumed my brain for weeks lmao. It actually made me want to rewatch the old one to remember everything that happened so I'm doing that now. I love X-Men so much, especially with the found family dynamics the team has. It always feels so heartwarming seeing everyone be friends and grow closer together. (Gambit is the best character) The newest episode fucked me up for days 😂 I can't wait to see more!

I think the only reason he did not die is because it was a kids show in the 90's. So they sent him to a farm Upstate but we know what that means. Same reason people don't die in Avatar TLA. This show is mature enough to be able to say plain and clean he did die.

Honestly, I'm glad the writers stole Ben Reilly's shtick (which sadly at the same time made it predictable for me) and used it in a way that allowed Maddie to skip the almost 40 years of character assassination and unnecessary psychological torture her 616 counterpart received in the comics from X-Factor 1 to Dark Web . She turned into a monster, but mostly because of poor writing and editorial drama that made everyone be uncharacteristically cruel with her. I'm fine with this.

I binged the original animated series with my mom and X-Men Evolution by myself. Did not regret it. Even if I could have understood '97 without watching them, I loved them and it convinced me to read the comics

I binge-watched the 90s cartoon a few years ago (and evolution!), and I can say that this cartoon definitely feels like watching the 90s one - maybe a bit more violent. The downside is, it carried over all of the flaws of the original too. I think the lightning-fast pacing can make it really hard to really get into the characters, and empathizing with the characters is vital to really vibing with the at-times convoluted story. I did really like that most recent episode, though. And Magneto is, fittingly, magnetic - my eyes are glued to him any time he's on screen. Easily the best-written character so far.

I think they are doing a pretty good job for new fans. I did not watch the older series but do know a bit about X-men and just as a stand-alone show I think it’s great. Sure the pacing is fast in some spots but they are trying to deliver content. I would much rather have that then being drip fed info. I’m excited to watch a new episode every week!!! Also would LOVE it if you did more content on “nerdy” topics instead of just anime etc. I love learning more

I have not seen the OG xmen in a long time... and honestly, I mix it up with other xmen shows I've seen half the time, but I am LOVING this new series. I think even having the vaguest idea of the IP is fine going in. Even things like Genotia are explained pretty well without it being a huge info dump. I'm especially glad that Cyclops is getting called out on his shit this time and not just by grumpy wolverine.

Watched evolution when i was young, then watched the 90s show a couple years ago and fell in love. I appreciate the new show can be very cool at times, but i find the pacing to be far too fast with stories that should last a season or half season finished in an episode or 2. It makes a lot of events feel so much less impactful as it makes ot clear dont try to get attached to the current dynamic, we are changing it up asap

From what understanding I have of comic version of Madelyne Pryor, Goblin Queen, I think there is a good chance to make a more sympathetic version of her, rather than demonise a powerful woman who goes through a lot. Especially if they can have her dress in that outfit without being evil, because women who might dress more sensually shouldn't be demonised. Also a chance that Madelyne and Cable could have a fonder connection than I think is in the comics that he just makes like Jeane is his motherly figure. I am all for change ups that don't say that she willingly tried to kill her baby for power.

I think it was probably X Men 97 that was my first look into superheroes as a kid. But I have a feeling I watched the earlier series too. Being dyslexic I never got into comics as I super struggle with comprehension skills. But from then on I grew up always loving superheroe and fantasy films, shows, anime. Though sorry Marvel I'm more of a DC fan now. I just like the darkness.

No lie, them going the X-Men Legacy route and having a romantic subplot between Rogue and Magneto is the one thing that I genuinely dislike about X-Men '97. I grew up loving both OG animated X-Men and Evolution and in high school then college I picked up a lot of random comics where Legacy ended up being a lot of what I found and read. Seeing my boy Remy sad really gets me. I love Rogue as she's top on my favourites list but her thing with Magneto always felt wrong.

While I and those who watch the og series know that Charles/ professor x is still alive and was in the coma. I like that the writers telling us he’s just gone and not been mentioned dead so we can be teased whether or not or he’ll be back.

One of the first things they do is tell us he's dead. That's actually a pretty important plot point for later on. It seems the X-men decided to explain Xavier's disappearance by saying he was killed by Gyrich, which isn't exactly a lie since he did actually die. They just chose not to explain that he left the planet to be treated by aliens with better medical technology.

Well, yeah. That's how the original show ended. Xavier was sick and attacked by Gyrich, and he died. However, prior to his death, he combined his powers with Magneto's to amplify his connection to Li'landra and send for help. She arrived a bit too late, but Shi'ar technology is leagues beyond Earth, so he had to leave with her. It was sort of implied he wouldn't be able to come back, though.
