All very accurate advice Daphna. I’ve lived in 4 countries, and each move required lots of planning and adjustment. I now find those challenges to be the best part of the journey for me - learning from my mistakes.

Thanks for the info…Another BIG issue is this What happens when you die in your new country home? The implications with everything you have their from real estate, cash and other personal assets. This is a side that no one talks about or realises…..I’ve just witnessed this in España so this needs to be shared…ciao for now…

Ah, Daphna, so true. No place will ever feel like home again. For me, going on 50 -yes, 50 years. And NO place has ever felt like home since. My foot is in two lands, happily, forever. You have to make peace with it. And just ENJOY your wonderful life.

I’m also grateful for your sharing. Fortunately, though very unfortunate, my “original” home country of the US has changed drastically that it no longer can be my spiritual homeland. Have visited Portugal 3 times, and have fallen in love with the nature of Madeira. I’m working on creating business relationships in Porto and also Madeira.

I traveled internationally for a living. I'm now retired and a widower. I've been seriously considering moving abroad and your videos have been inspiring. I believe I understand what you are expressing. I too feel like I'm at home wherever I happen to be and yet no place feels like home! Ironic, but true. I really admire your courage and our willingness to open yourself to others.

I came across your channel by chance, by YT recommending it to me and I am so glad I discovered you. First of all, let me tell you that you are such a pleasant appearance and person. Second of all, I am surprised by your courage to change your life at this degree, although I also changed a few countries in the past few years. I also appreciate your honesty in the content you create and the ecouragement you share with other people. 💝

Hi Daphna! 😊 Just to clarify a bit about salaries in Portugal: Actually, in Portugal, the minimum wage is €820/month in 2024, but workers receive 14 months of pay (with holiday and Christmas bonuses). This makes the effective average monthly minimum closer to €957. The average salary is about €1,640/month (or around €1,913 with the bonuses included). Let me know if you’d like more details! 😊

Hey Daphna 👋🏽 💕 I love to travel, but I do feel at home where I live. Lately I feel more and more like “home” is within. Things like feeling at peace with yourself, feeling natural warmth towards others, reducing stress, finding meaning and purpose in your daily activities, etc. Take care; I always enjoy your content ✌🏽

This concept of home is interesting, I never felt at home where I was born and always wanted to leave and I never felt at home where I live now. I am planning to move to Portugal with my husband and my son and I think this feeling will remain. I feel more at home when I have connections and create a chosen "family" with like minded people, that is why I like to join different groups that have common interests. For my husband it will be important to have a synagogue and a Jewish community to feel at home, that is why we considered Lisbon, but housing got out of our price range there so we have switched to Porto. I plan to visit Porto next winter for a month long stay. Thank you for your videos Daphna and for speaking honestly about what life is like in Portugal.

As always great content Daphne. I also know the feeling of being "homeless" well. Although I still live in the city where I grew up for 50 years and even live at the same subway station where my parents' house stood, everything has changed - mainly due to the left-wing politics that dominates this city. Green spaces, a huge sports area with many tennis courts were completely demolished to make way for migrant accommodation and a huge facility for the disabled. The complex with small apartments where I live today used to be inhabited mainly by students, young nurses and other cheerful young people. Today, entire migrant families are crammed into the small apartments. Dirt, garbage and shouting everywhere. The district has changed from a dream area, almost reminiscent of California, into a metropolis with slum features. At the latest when the house I grew up in was demolished 4 years ago, I walked through the streets and said to myself "This is no longer my home". When I retire in a few years and move somewhere else, I will also be homeless. I realize that I don't have enough time left to make a new place my home, but it can offer a better life. And that's why I'll do it.

Thank you for a helpful video. For the past two years in early November, I have been able to travel to Paris. Yes, I fantasize about going there for good, or to maybe a different part of France, but it seems very complicated and--unless I'm misinformed--I'd have to start at zero with my credit in a new country. My income is also very low. It might be best just to do a 90-day trip starting August 1 when my lease ends here. That might be as close as I'll ever get to "living" in another country.
