Now I went to google maps and saw where this district is. A few years back I went to Russian sites, learning Russian songs (in Yugoslavia and socialism we sang quite a few Russian songs and I liked them very much). I work in kindergarten and we also have children and parents from Russia. Children teach me to count Russian, sing Russian songs. Every year in March, we have the Maslenica Festival in Ljubljana. Children and adults from Russia come, sing and dance. Thanks for the video! Good luck in the new year of 2020, a nice celebration and greetings from Ljubljana, Slovenia!

If someone from the old Soviet Union were suddenly to be transported forward in time to today and were to see this store with its abundance of food and goods, they would be shocked and would scarcely be able to believe that they were in Russia. I recall travelling in Eastern Europe during the days of communism, and there was scarcely anything available in stores with shelves' being ofttimes empty. The only stores that had even a little variety of food and other small items were foreign currency stores specifically for tourists. For me, seeing what modern Russians can buy at Christmastide and throughout the year is quite cheering and wonderful.
@elena79rus
@elena79rus 4 жыл бұрын
We had everything in the USSR. We had big stores and supermarkets full of everything too. The empty shelves were AFTER the USSR fell apart. It started falling apart sometime in 1989, but mostly everything disappeared from stores in 1991-92, after the collapse. Empty shelves were the RESULT (the consequence) of the fall of the USSR because all the production/manufacturing stopped then. During the Soviet times we had supermarkets full of everything. Obviously stores were different from the store in this video, but so were the stores in the US. If you compare an American store from 40-50 years ago it's not gonna look as modern or have the same variety of stuff sold as a store nowadays.

Please try to forgive my bellicose country: it is the fault of the parasites occupying our government, not our people. Please forgive me if I've misspelled your name. @elena79rus

Huh? Christmas in Russia is January 7. Russians are Christian Orthodox, the church follows a different calendar. However, Christmas in Russia is considered a 100% religious holiday, whereas most Russians are not religious at all. Therefore Christmas is not celebrated in Russia at all. Instead, Russians celebrate New Year the same way people in the westefn countries celebrate Christmas. Russians give each other presents on December 31st, not on the 24th. And the biggest meal of the year they eat at night on December 31st, not the 24th. All the decorations sold in the supermarket in the video are for the New Year, not for Christmas. They are called the New Year decorations, not Christmas decorations in Russia.

The Russian Orthodox Church uses the Julian calendar, which is 13 days behind the Gregorian, adopted in most countries. and since Russians are very fond of different holidays, they celebrate the so-called “Old New Year” (that is, according to the old style) from January 13 to 14 :)

question. is everything made from china as here in USA?
@vanorange
@vanorange 4 жыл бұрын
MERCY Fisher yes, China imports the goods everywhere. But if you really want to see the best Christmas decorations ever, you should look for Russian factories where they make not only balls but fairy tale characters, animals, birds, tiny houses. These decorations are made of glass and are rather expensive but they look marvelous!

that has got to be the biggest single, continuous mall or shopping space or whatever it is - in the world. it's a like a hangar for 5 space shuttles and 5 vostok.

Shocked at how modern looking it all was. I guess I still picture the old stereotype Russia, old, run down, impoverished. Am glad that is not so.

When I visited Russia I was expecting the same but it is such a modern and advanced country. The media here doesn't want us to see how beautiful really is. The shopping is amazing, the people are friendly and the food is incredible. :)

Your income 40000 NOK/5000 Euro? your income in russia 450 Euro, in moscow 1000 - 1500 Euro. "Globus" is a german hypermarket. 8 markets for the moscow region, 12 million inhabitants. these are long ways to cheap food = different russia...

It's like southern Ontario, Canada -- no snow this Xmas! Quite a large selection at the food court -- I am impressed! After Xmas we can buy all sorts of Xmas decorations, cards, etc for 1/2 price, so that is the time to buy for next year. Popular decorations here are angels, Santa, and Frostie the snowman. Not many families put up a Holy Family creche anymore as people are less religious. Happy New Year to you and yours!

That store is huge. I live in NYC and the only stores similar in size would be a Costco or Macy's or Bloomingdales. The Xmas decore is very similar if not almost identical to what we have. Only difference is our stores are crowded with the carts stuffed full. I see the carts there are not pilled high.

There are so many things in the mall to buy and people are really looking around and I would too if there. You was doing plenty of looking, but I didn't see you buy anything there. I wish you all a Happy New Year and wish you all the best in the new year.

They are indigenous to Mexico, where they are called "Flor de Noche Buena", "Christmas Eve Flower", they are called poinsettias in English in honor of Joel Roberts Poinsett, an American botanist who introduced them to the US in the early 19th century. The Aztecs were known to have cultivated them in pre-Colombian times. Per the wikipedia page they are not toxic to pets.

In germany they are called "Weihnachts Stern" (Christmas Star) and you either get them with or without silvery sparkling glitter added to the red leaves. They are a very popular christmas plant over here.
