Yesterday the check engine light sudden came up while driving my 2021 Mercedes CLA45s AMG. in this day and age, you'd think that Mercedes would display a lot more information along with the check engine light. who the hell has the time to go to the mechanic each time, especially if it's a simple problem like the gas cap.

Stopped going to my Mercedes dealer & found a Great Mercedes's Independent specialist instead same parts , same Mercedes's history cloud & all timed served Mercedes mechanics & i use them for both my Mercedes's , Great video ,Loverly Motor

Interestingly, I had the exact problem yesterday with my CLA 45s in that the error messages flashed up saying that the various safety systems were inactive etc. Luckily I was only half a mile from home so cruised home and then pressed the Mercedes Me button in the car, I was quickly put through to the right department and I was offered an RAC breakdown technician that afternoon or wait until this afternoon today for a Mercedes technician; I chose to wait for a Mercedes technician but early this morning a RAC guy called to say he was on his way to me, I mentioned that I didn't think he was coming and he gave me the option to cancel him but he told me that they have the same technical equipment on board and have been on the same courses as the Mercedes mechanics so I agreed that he should attend so I could get back on the road quicker. I was very happy with the service I received and he did the same as Adam mentioned above and 30 minutes later all seems back to normal! He told me that he would email my local Mercedes garage with all his data and his actions so they had it on my cars' record should something like this happen again etc. I must admit I was initially a little concerned when the RAC were going to attend but thankfully my guy was great and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.....

@@ABAUTOAMG A big thank you to you my friend because if you hadn't posted your experience I wouldn't have known what to expect and I know I would have certainly been highly concerned without it! On another side note, I've had PPF fitted to the front half of my car and it looks amazingly good, this was because I have a digital white car and during the first week of owning it I had awful luck in getting a big stone chip to the front so I had that repaired first then the PPF to hopefully stop this happening again......

Had a check engine light pop up in my C43 this week. A moment earlier I felt a hickup in the drivetrain. Stopped, turned of the car and started it back up: light was still there and the engine was running really rough. As I expected, a faulty spark plug. All 6 got replaced and it's running like butter again!

This may be off topic but I have a similiar story. Today I turned in my ML 350 W164 2008 into Mercedes for a brake recall issue and then on my way my service engine light came on and I stopped and parked it, looked under the hood for smoke or something and the car started sounding like it could die while idling in park. It drove fine on the highway and then seemed like it wasn't getting enough gas to power the car to build up speed. I hope it doesn't cost too much as the diagnostic cost 265$ U.S.; however the brake recal was free. I was thinking maybe something to do with the fuel because I was smelling an odor of gas from the outside of the car. I hope mine is an easy fix.

Just got my thermostat fixed which caused my check engine light to come on my 2015 cla 250, had car back for about week, and my light just came on again! So bringing it in to dealership on Wednesday really hope it’s just sensor or something not serious doesn’t sound bad.

Mercedes couldn't help me enough when I lost a cylinder half way across Germany. Hotels taxis and hire car sorted with no problems!. Even got around the language barrier in German dealership!

That sounds like a problem I had with the ABS sensor on one of the wheels. Did he tell you what the errors were before erasing them?

I am happy for the service you received, however i cannot say the same for me.My new GLA 220 4matic with 400 miles on the clock indicated low oil pressure do not drive car.Rang mercedes dealership but was advised to contact breakdown service first which was supposed to be via RAC, but they sub contract out to Euro route in some circumstances, ie, like mine .Iwas advised if i could wait until the next day a Mercedes engineer would deal with me, but a very nice euro breakdown engineer arrived instead but not expert on Mercs anymore than any other manufacturer.He could not find the fault and so organised a breakdown vehicle to attend and tow my brand new GLA away to the dealer who would not help in the first place. It is good PR offering free breakdown for life of car but only if the service provided is adequate.

Same thing happened to me with my 2022 cla 45s. Turned out to be some air mass flow sensor causing mine to go into limp mode. Turned out the technician said my ecu needed new update which he did right outside my home. No problems since then.

Hey Paul, SOS is a special button to send your location to emergency services in case of an accident. Mercedes me button gives you access to Mercedes support :)

Hi. I tried what you did before I saw your video and they told me that they won't come just for the engine managment light unless there is a lack of power or something more seroius then just that. So I booked a check at Mercedes dealer where I bought the car just a few days ago. I have to wait unfortunately 10 days till I can take it there😢

Hey Valy, that's not right I’d never drive my car for 10 days with an engine light. That's not safe. Hopefully it's just a sensor/software issue but I’d call them back and when they ask if the engine feels different just say I’m not sure I think it might be but could be just me worrying from the light but I don't feel safe driving the car with the light on. They should come out.

Ah no problem :) both are great cars but actually very different. Both will be fun and sporty but the CLA45s is lighter, smaller and more sporty while although sporty too the cls53 is a much more comfortable cruiser. It’s also bigger and less agile handling etc.

Interesting that you got a Mercedes’ specialist but this isn’t always the case as you are just as likely to get the RAC as Mercedes’ breakdown is in partnership with the RAC.

I’ve always ended up with Mercedes specialist with AMGs, I think it depends on the car and perhaps the area.

@@ABAUTOAMG Yes this appears correct just had a call off them offering me the choice of RAC or Mercedes’ technician and I’ve opted for specialist technician. Problem fault codes again like you had but no warning to pull over, engine transmission warning car wouldn’t kick down at 60mph also later in the day limp mode in second gear wouldn’t change up to 3rd, turn of engine wait and restart and gears ok. There is issues with these cars in the transmission I’m convinced, last time Mercedes’ said the issue was overheating transmission fluid and did a software update and it looked like it had worked until yesterday, so personally I don’t think they know the reason but I’m convinced they know of this issue.

I’d press the button and contact Mercedes as soon as any engine light comes on and let them advise. If you can’t though watch out for signs of the car running differently. Does the engine feel different or sluggish? If it does pull over and try not to drive any further as you could do more damage.

So I have a C250 2013 model and the only help that I get for the blinking engine light coming on is that it could possibly be ignition coils or bad spark plugs or sensor. The car did advise me that I’m gonna need a tuneup and 1000 miles, so I’m gonna try to see if I can have a mechanic look at it the code reader on it come to my house

that's quite usual for most Mercedes cars. it's normally problem with faulty ABS sensor wires. But better don't drive for too long or for too many days if those warning signs pop out. I just ignored those signs for a week. one day the signs suddenly disappeared and when I was driving, the brake suddenly didn't work properly. after a while the signs popped up again and the brake worked again. so I immediately drove to the mechanic to fix it and it's just the ABS sensor issue

Very informative Adam, be aware of one problem I have just had to have sorted not saying you’ll have it but you could, TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION (white coloured warming sign not red). Problem started in comfort mode low gear coming out of a corner or roundabout seemed like it would rev but not engage the next gear as it should (late change) it did it twice at low speed and then in sports plus at around 60mph I got the error message at the low speeds comfort it didn’t show error message but I knew something wasn’t right. Had it down Mercedes’ and it appears it needed a software update as the transmission oil was overheating and causing the issue, I’ve got it back and haven’t had an issue yet but I’ve heard other stories about the transmissions on CLA 45s from complete failure to problems like mine. Thought I’d share.

@@ABAUTOAMG error msg was transmission malfunction in white writing, there are two transmission malfunction warning one is in RED and say transmission malfunction STOP, if you get this one you have to stop the car. The one I had flashed up kicking down to the lower gear in sports plus didn’t happen so error msg appeared, shortly after it got back into its gear cycle but there was an issue for sure hence why it went back to Mercedes’. They seem like they know about the issue that’s why there is a software update for it but if you don’t have the problem you don’t get the update.

I had this exact same error for about 1 month took mercerdes weeks to resolve the problem. It also caused my engine to stop and come to a hault. Would restart and it would be fine. I have the exact same car as you. Got a bit dangerous having to pull over on motor ways.

No such service or anything remotely similar exists in the US. I have my CLA35 that us under warranty with the light on, Mercedes Me cannot do ANYTHING to help me, and with local dealers it will be at least 5 days until they can even look at my car. Stunning. I had much better road assistance on a $20k Mazda 3 than on an AMG. Baffling.

Depends really on how you look at it. If your planning to sell the car at a later date it’s going to be worth more if it had a full dealer service history. Even though there’s some great independents and specialists the main dealer service holds the most value since you without doubt know it has had genuine parts used and that the owner has spared no expense. So you might end up getting those hundreds as you say back. If you have a brand new AMG such as this one it makes no sense to not get it serviced at Mercedes since it could devalue the car. Older Mercedes however you could save money going to an independent.
