In this short video I discuss an alternative option to melting a Coin Ring down if you've rubbed out/damaged the outer detail on your Coin Ring by over-reducing it . This simple method will still yield a beautiful coin ring!

Nice video. I've made a few like that before and the shine you get is amazing. Truly a mirror finish. I call them a "hybrid" ring because it looks like the hammered spoon rings of the past with the smooth outside and keeps the inner detail like the newer style double sided rings. Always get compliments on that style. When you tell them it was a coin and take off the ring to show them they always ask the same question - "How did you do that?"

I like all your videos. I thought in this one, what you were going to say is that you annealed the coin one last time and then sanded it very very lightly to make the lettering and designs stand out from the jeweler's flake (I think that's the name for the dark finish the coin now has); polish it leaving the dark background and thereby make the coin nicer in some ways at least. But your method seems a better idea.

What ring stretcher/reducer do you recommend? I'm not sure I can afford the Durston!

Matt Meadows Hey Matt, you can go onto Amazon and purchase one of the less expensive overseas brands that they carry to get yourself started and work your way up to a ring stretcher like the Durston; that's what a lot of people have done. Hope that helps!
