My hair grew the fastest this year when I actually gave up on “protective styling” which was added hair in braids or twists. The synthetic hair was chewing my hair up and its moisture. I primarily rock my hair in high puffs or twists (no added hair) now the crown of my head now reaches my back without heat stretching. I keep my routine simple by not touching my hair after styling. I took your advice on Joico and love the Hydrator product. I use it constantly bc it is easy to get and easily sinks into my hair without doing too much.
@kensigregory3612 жыл бұрын
That's what I think I'm experiencing, I noticed when I used to just straighten my hair and left it alone straight it grew more than having added weave braided in. I think it makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider how much buildup occurs from certain "protective styles". The sad thing about it though is braids do help my curl pattern, but don't help with growth whereas straightening grows it however damages my curl pattern till it get brittle. 😟
@_Kim_Possible2 жыл бұрын
@@kensigregory361 It's really a catch 22 like you gotta give up texture or length. Another possible thing to do is wear natural styles like mini twists, etc. but I feel like it gets fuzzy a couple days in which is exhausting to do. One thing I'm currently looking into is a keratin treatment

I agree with most of what you suggest. With respect to the trims, it depends on the state of your hair. Not everyone needs to have their hair trimmed every 3 months. For me, I just need to trim every 6 months. When you trim just to trim, it defeats the purpose of your hair retention. My issue was not enough iron. Once that was resolved, my breakage reduced a lot, retention began, and I needed less trims because of the condition of my hair.

I disagree with the trimming more. How are you going to retain length when you are cutting your hair every 3 to 4 months?.My grandmother would wash her hair, grease it with royal crown and plait it up and she had plants hanging to her waist. She never went to a beautyshop to get " regular trims". Her hair retained length and grew just fine. Nor did it split up the hair shaft. I flow her regimen and I gave retained length and grown my hair to past shoulder length from a big chop in barely 4 years. I stay out of salons and do my own hair. My personal experience is that salons are scissor happy. I don't need or desire to get regular trims in order to grow my hair.

no offense, but... the average person grows 6" per year, and the average black person specifically grows 5" per year. In 4 years a person should have 20" or 24" of new growth, which is mid back or waist length. It seems you may still have breakage issues :(

My issue was switching products and routines like I switch my clothes. I know doing this caused damage. I have committed to one haircare line (Kerastase) that's working well for me now. I do need to do more protective styles though. I'm going to Revair and throw some twists in for a few weeks.

Hi thank you for this very helpful video. I note you advise to deep condition 1x a week or every 2wks. If your hair is in an 8wk protective style ie, braids, twist, weave, etc. how is one to deep condition and how often? Pls excuse any ignorance, thank you.
@SimplyTamika3 жыл бұрын
Hi. It’s still possible to deep condition in protective styles but easier to do it if you are wearing a weave or wig braids. Once every two weeks is a great schedule for deep conditioning. I have a video demo of how I shampoo and condition hair in a protective style. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epC8m3SJhrRrqdk

What about a bush. I usually put twist in my hair every week because it starts to dread up I'd I leave it any longer. However, lately when I take it down I let the waves wear out until I have a bush and I keep that moisturized, sleep with a silk bonnet and only finger comb if I leave the house. Finger combing is once a week and regular combing every 2 weeks. I have never worn any fake hair or gone to a hair stylist . Also I cant di braids as I get sores easily and after a week braids slip out. What would you recommend. All my sisters have hair down to their butts. Mine just passes my shoulders. I want butt length.

Sounds like buildup the base. Be sure to not overuse products when moisturizing your hair. Also the roots of your hair should be fully detanglesd before shampooing.

I was natural for almost 3 years and I did not like it. I put a texlax in my hair and it is harder than ever. I can not find anyone that weaves my hair like I like. The one person that did it is not doing hair anymore. The only thing my texlax did was made it hard? Where are you? If you are not too far away, I will drive to you. I'm in NC. I'm willing to drive a few states over. I'm crying as I watch you. I have tried la e front wigs but don't know how to cut or pluck the front. I think because my texturizer was no lye that it wasn't strong enough. Can I reapply a texturizer in a week or so? Please help.

Pro-vitamin leave in spray (its a watery consistency) & Its a 10 leave-in! Finish with a hair oil to seal. I use avocado oil. Braid it up after an leave it over night. Also try conditioning with herbal essence hello hydration until the dryness is tamed.👌🏾 That stuff softened my texlaxed/relaxed hair so well. It was unexpectant too! I just bought it to co-wash with something cheap in between wash days and the gym. GURL😩💕 You can also try the olaplex line if all else fails.
