i chipped my front tooth. I was riding my bike and the pavement (sidewalk) jutted out into the road and i hit it and flew over the handlebars and faceplanted the road. It was really embarrassing because i had to walk 5 miles home crying and covered in blood, but luckily these guys in a British Gas van gave me (and my bike) a ride! I maybe shouldn't have gone but having obviously just knocked out a large part of my already scarce brain cells along with part of my front tooth, i wasn't really thinking clearly! I had a filling in it for ages (my tooth, that is, not my brain...) but eventually i got veneers, and i'm really pleased with them now. But i never rode my bike again since then. Only an exercise bike... although as my friend helpfully pointed out, being as clumsy as me, i could just as easily fall off that somehow too. Which to be fair is pretty accurate.

I was a Pediatic dental assistant for 25 years. My dad lost a filling and he asked me to put it back in.

I have no idea how I chipped it. :-/ just noticed a tiny missing spot on my front tooth. It’s not even visibly noticeable
@askahygienist3 жыл бұрын
At least it’s not noticeable! 👍

I don't know how I did it, but my right front tooth has a bit of the edge on the left side of that tooth missing. You almost can't see it. But, I have a dentist appointment for next week.
@askahygienist2 ай бұрын
If it’s barely visible, it may be ok/better to just leave it, if maybe only to smooth off any roughness. Small chips on front teeth if fixed tend to chip again, the chip getting bigger and bigger.

I was running at night there was a ditch and I fell face first smh lol , brutal , I see crack lines but can’t see it unless you look very close up , what you think is best option for it ? Tooth is still all in tact
@askahygienist5 ай бұрын
I would say just keep an eye on it. I’ve had a similar situation in terms of small crack lines. Eventually the nerve died years later and I got a root canal but the tooth is still intact.

Today I went and got a fissure on my tooth looked at. He used this pointy needle thing on it, and it felt like he was gonna pull my tooth out…it felt like he was sticking it into fissure and pulling it 😩 I was gripping the seat! what is this? Is this natural? I feel discomfort on that tooth now. He put flowable sealant on it in the end.
@askahygienist2 жыл бұрын
Oh that’s weird! He was probably checking the fissure for a cavity with an instrument called an explorer. Sometimes the fissure is pretty deep and very narrow, so the explorer might get stuck in it..but I’ve never heard of it causing a lot of pain!
@ruddz16602 жыл бұрын
@@askahygienist well it just felt like it was catching in the fissure and he was pulling… just felt very uncomfortable. He told me then the sealant would just slip off….he told it isn’t a deep fissure…..couldn’t he have just smoothed the enamel out for me? I told him to bur it for me, and he told me it would be possible
@askahygienist2 жыл бұрын
@@ruddz1660 if you take a bur to a fissure you are bound to create a deeper hole, it’s not the same as smoothing off a chipped edge.. sometimes dentists can be pretty heavy-handed, I’ll admit, especially when checking for cavities, but it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s doing something bad/wrong. Probably could improve bedside manner. If you’re not comfortable with his diagnosis you can always get a second opinion. If you can avoid getting the tooth drilled on by getting a simple sealant, I’d try to go that route.

The way I chipped my tooth is probably, maybe a common one. Maybe. I was eating, and I bit on my fork, and it chipped my tooth a bit. So, yay, chipped tooth :D.

Aw sorry! You’d be surprised how many people come in with a chipped tooth from something soft. I think in cases like those it’s the pressure from our own teeth grinding on each other when we miss our food if that makes sense..

That's my biggest fear when going to the dentist, that they will lie to you or try to scam you into something. I'm not saying all dentists are like this, but a few years ago I went to the dentist to for a check up and she said I had 5 cavities. I was like huh... I didn't feel like my teeth were that bad at all. I ended paying $1,200 that day. So, now I'm scared of going back. If something like that happens again, I will go to another dentist and see what they say.
