I really love Julia. She originally wrote all white characters but is so excited to see the evolution of her characters becoming poc and the story becoming more representational. I just love to see authors fully support their characters being changed and be encouraging of it aswell!

I know there have been lots of changes from the books to the screen, but it's amazing to see that Julia Quinn is so humble and "hands-off" in a sense. She really seems to understand that TV and novels are very different mediums and that adapting a novel is not as simple as just translating everything directly from the book-this usually isn't the best way to go about it. Having there be some differences also helps the books and the series stand out as successful projects in their own right! It's not that one needs to be better than the other, they're just different, and that's okay. I'm so looking forward to this season!

I've never read the books so this is my first time seeing Julia Quinn in an interview and I love how there's no ego involved for her. She loves her books and I'm sure they mean a lot to her, but she also understands the changes that have to be made when adapting a book and she trusts the professionals to do it justice! The appreciation for her fans is also so lovely, especially fans who are now feeling seen with the addition of diversity and inclusion. I'm beyond excited for season 2 and renewing my Netflix subscription just so I can watch it ASAP

I'm soooo glad I found this interview with Julia Quinn to learn how she is enjoying the series. I've owned all the books and enjoyed rereading them over the last few years, they are favourites. I watched the first season with mixed emotions , will I or won't I watch the next season? but listening to Julia's delight in her story kind of made me feel I could relax and enjoy the changes the television adaptation has brought. @@happymedlife Hi Hannah, it always tricky seeing someone else's idea of the images you've held in your head of favourite stories isn't it. I applaud the production values which have been brought together to make this representation of the books. It is so pretty! (Thank you to the writers and producers for not feeling the need to remind us constantly that in that time period horse manure would have been everywhere and small children were chimney sweeps.) Did Julia write all the characters as white? Now that being political correctness has been introduced I hope the writers have each Bridgerton child marry a person of different heritage, religion, body shape and sexual orientation. That would be fun. Fortunately there are a lot of Bridgertons. Remembering this only my opinion, I would have enjoyed being able to use my imagination more in the sex scenes. I don't need to eat a whole cake just because one slice has been delicious.

I think I'd like a little bit more control if I were the author over what happens in the film. I'm very much a person who would be very concerned about how my babies were being perceived. But I liked the first season of Bridgerton better than the book. It expanded the Featherington's roles. In the first two books, they are hardly a mention except for Penelope and the cousin who is not even in that book. I haven't read the other six books but am going to. Can't wait for season 2. I'm going to binge it on Friday and watch it again on Saturday. I'm here for it!

Ok, now that we've watched season 2 what are your thoughts?? I loved the casting and how they incorporated Indian culture. But beyond that, I was disappointed in how much they deviated from the book this season. The love triangle distracted from their story. The relationship relied so much on denied chemistry rather than bonding as they dealt with their trauma. I was so looking forward to seeing certain scenes play out (chasing Newton through the park, the thunderstorms, the bee sting) and they either didn't happen or were totally different.

My question for Julia Quinn regards my favorite odd ducks out of the Bridgerton clan, Benedict and Eloise. Season 1 of the series gave me the impression that Benedict is probably bi/questioning and Eloise is gay and probably Ace. Season 2 doesn't seem to be taking them in that direction. But I was wondering whether there was ever any discussion about reworking either of their arcs to giving them a same-sex romantic interest around the same time it was decided to make the adaptations a more racially diverse and inclusive world?
