This is what I'm doing. This is the only way it would make sense. It's starting to pick up. But the miles go up quick. I've been selling cars my whole life. Once they hit a 120 K you can expect major depreciation. You buy a car for 3 you should be able to sell it for 3 k a year. You're going to have to do the maintenance and everything yourself or you're going to be in a losing position. In my area I got to rent them Dirt Cheap around 15 per day just to get a booking. It adds up don't get me wrong but if you can't pay cash and do the work yourself find another income-producing asset.

If you’re leasing a vehicle and way under on miles, Turo can help recoup some of your costs. Case in point. The 2015 Z06 I rented in Houston. Owner was 20k under miles on his lease. Charged $250/day and rented it out until his lease was up.
@sumdood20355 жыл бұрын
I think a great way to use turo is to simply rent it every month only until youve paid for your lease/loan payment. Limits wear and tear and totally pays for the car. Best benefit to turo as a renter (customer) is that you can rent manual transmission cars. none of the major rental chains offer that.

This is one of the best reviews I've seen. New subscriber. I have a 3rd car that I contemplated putting on turo. They said it'd be $565/. Now add insurance, mileage, risk, maintenance and personal time to drop off the car, keep your reviews up and have a stranger drive your car! How much $ could you possibly make? & when you go to sell it you have to disclose that it was used as a rental. Ppl who use this service as a host are the same ppl that keep Payday loans in business.

Hey Rob (or anyone else, I guess), my parents (mid to late 50s) lease new cars every 3 years or so (39 month I think), and my mom's enamored with her white/red z4. Sadly they don't make them anymore, and so I was looking for similar hardtops for her, with the slc/sl and the f-type being about the only cars out there new. Funny enough though, the 488 spider eventually came up and I jokingly showed it to her. She chastised me for teasing her with such a nice car, but it got me to wondering. I have a fairly decent understanding of my parent's financial situation, so could they actually afford something like that, new? Kind of curious what you think one would have to have in the bank or earn a year to buy a car like that, given that, well, you bought a brand new 488 (a coupe iirc) a while back. Obviously I'm not asking for Rob, or anyone's, actual financials, just as I wouldn't offer my parents, but I am curious as to what people would say.

Seeing as across the board, coast to coast exotic rental companies tend to charge basically the same rates, that has to be the effective rates needed to make a decent profit and stay in business etc etc. Also unless there are some Uber millionaire drivers running around out there I don't know about, most drivers seem to complain they don't make much money or enough money. If you have an AMG and a customer blows the engine up, I'm guessing Turo isn't going to buy you another $30,000 plus engine and Mercedes probably won't either. I recall a video awhile back with Mischa(Boosted Boris) and his boss Robert that owns Apex at the Nurburgring talking about expenses and I think he said his cost per lap to run the McLaren 675LT was something insane like $300 or so.
@bigjml6 жыл бұрын
NoThisIsPratickStar So Turo have a clever App. Some Insurance. And some office staff in a rented office space with in all likelihood rented furniture. The vehicle owners buy, insure, clean, maintain the vehicle. They pay interest on any loans used to buy the vehicle. They have to get it to the renter and get it back afterwards. But Turo works because naive people don't realise that they are being exploited. Guess what the biggest up front cost is in the Car Rental Business? I shall give you a clue. It isn't the rented office space or the people you pay hourly answer the phone.
@muserussell23775 жыл бұрын
Create a LLC for car rentals and get commercial renters insurance, takes care of those issues. Great points! 👍🏻 I see people buying new Chevy Corvettes on installments and putting them on Turo without counting all the factors that go into a rental business! You quickly realize that all you are doing is working for the car factory or car dealer paying the car that you will never fully own not really thinking about the RISK involved on this ciber share economy! Not as cut and dry as you will think! Same as Like driving for Uber! Do you really have the energy to drive six hours per-day everyday only to make 120usd per day to then find out your car has depreciated, you need new tires, and the cost of gas is up! And after a couple months you have no energy left to keep driving! Not so easy eh? What Turo is creating is competition btw the car owners and like you say the cheapest owner gets to rent more often but not necessary makes more! Rather LOOSES MORE!

Agreed, There’s a lady here on KZbin that does videos on Turo and here experiences I’ve looked at her fleet (10 cars) and her pricing is not profitable at all even if you consider that she may be getting good prices on cars she still only has like 600 or so trips in the past year or so shes been doing it. Her cars range from around $150 - $23 so averaging for about $80 after Turo’s Fees shes maybe made $36,000 but she had to buy 10 vehicles, vehicles that lost a decent amount of their initial value. More so if Turo reports to the on a carfax that the car was used as a rental.
@PenCrisis6 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty bad way to judge how much she is making. The trip counter isn't enough. It doesn't list how many days or weeks the car was rented during that 1 trip. I doubt most people only rented for 1 day. Most people who rent a car do so on vacay and rent for multiple days at a time. You cant just average everything up and make a gross understatement. You have to take into cost of monthly payment, maintenance, and depreciation if you plan to sell it after a few years. Compared to revenue from turo. I doubt she's killing it but I also doubt she's making peanuts. She obviously makes enough to live well in LA area which has a very high cost of living. Living well in the LA area means pulling 6 figures for your household income.

Turo claims to provide liability insurance for its users...
@alphazoomii94086 жыл бұрын
I think that's BS. Your insurance is the brunt of it. One guy trashed this dudes Porsche and Turo had nothing to do with the insurance.
@venom58096 жыл бұрын
+alphazoom II, yep, there's no way Turo is handling the insurance, at least not all of the liability. If you look at the VinWiki video the other day with the guy that crashed the rental company Lambo, he had to fight with his insurance company to cover the cost of the Lambo and they still wouldn't cover his medical bills. I suspect you really find out how much coverage you have when your drunk customer slams into a family of 4 and kills the parents and kids.
@alphazoomii94086 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Turo sounds like it may be a tiny niche app but it's not going to be the end of a typical boring Avis rental company just based on that they won't take care of the worse case scenario or even medium case scenarios. If you drive someone's Porsche or something even half-way decent and you roast the clutch do you really think Turo is going to cover that repair bill?
@MrSlowestD166 жыл бұрын
Sure, but there's going to be a max amount they cover, and then it's on you.
@dominicbavaro30436 жыл бұрын
alphazoom II depends on what level you have with them. Turo allows you to decline their insurance for a bigger cut of the rental
