Things to inspect when looking at a used ford 6.7 powerstroke from years 2011 and up.

Hands down the best pre purchase inspection video I found. Bud, you knocked it out. Easy to understand and relate to. You did an amazing job. About to purchase either a powerstroke or cummins. Rather have the powerstroke for the power. Thanks for the upload.

I bought my 15 6.7 around the same time you did and I'm pretty picky and thorough when looking and you hit all the good points when looking at one of these trucks the only thing off the top of my head to add is body mounts. Wouldn't stop me from buying the truck because it's a common wear item but just so I would be prepared to add to the list of things to do when buying one of these trucks.

I just went and looked at a 2012 Ford F-250 Super Duty Lariat with 176k miles and they want $25,900 for it. I went and popped the hood and looked in engine bay and I seen that it's been deleted, everything else looked stock. I looked at the body panels, everything looked straight. I go to the passenger side and I noticed that the coil isn't all straight, has a slight bend in it. I looked up under it, has no rust, comes to find out it's a southern truck from Texas. I looked at the back and noticed that the exhaust has been changed too. I looked at your video again and come to find out it's been deleted from there too. So I get in and check out the interior, it's very clean inside! Windows, A/C, etc all work. The only 2 things that I noticed that didn't work/broken was the driver side A pillar pull handle was missing, it looks like someone tried to get in it and it broke on them (that part is an easy fix) and the A/C vents on the passenger side are broken, like it won't stay in place (another easy fix). I go inside the building and ask for more info on the truck, very friendly people, they told me that it has a check engine light on due to it not being tuned. Also, that it smokes! I look at him and ask him what kind of smoke? He said white smoke. So I shook my head and said to myself that it's burning coolant. But I still went ahead and wanted to test drive it. So he goes and brings it out to me and I seen the smoke! But at first I'm thinking it's just condensation cause it's been sitting for so long, cause the smoke went right away when he brought it to me. I get in and it's idling very smoothly, I look at the tail pipe to see if it's still smoking and there's some there but it's not too noticeable. But when I gave it some revs you can clearly see it, definitely not coal. I begin my test drive and it's driving smoothly, steering wheel is straight, no weird noises BUT it shifts a bit hard, almost like a jolting feeling but it still has tons of power. I jump on the highway and give it the beans! It's throwing me in the backseat but the shifting was extremely hard! It was almost like the first gear shift it jolted hard as hell! Whole truck shook, but after that it shifted hard but still a bit uncomfortable, but every gear I was being pulled! I felt them G's. I look in the passenger side mirror and I see nothing but white smoke! (when I was giving it the beans) I check the temp gauge to see if it's overheating or anything and nothing, looks normal to me. The only thing I heard when driving it was the turbo and the loud 37" tires on the road. I stop my test drive and look up under the hood again, don't see any leaks, coolant is full, and oil could be changed. I forgot to look at the transmission fluid. I look up under the truck again to see any leaks, nothing at all, clean as a whistle. So I asked the salesman if it's ok for me to get a mechanic to come and double check it, he's cool with it and even said that he prefers me to do that. Here's my question for you Nick, what do you think about this? The thing that bothers me is the white smoke. I'm guessing it's the turbo or intercooler failing? Also the transmission shifting hard too, I'm guessing it could be that it's not tuned? I don't know but this is my first time dealing with diesels.
@nick7.398Ай бұрын
@@bman409 at first I thought it seemed like nice truck. The coil angle most likely is because camber is off, lifting these trucks without radius arm drop brackets will do that. As for the engine light for being not tuned, huge red flag. Why would it be deleted and not tuned im pretty sure if that was the case it wont go over 45 mph due to limp mode. The white smoke could be a large variety of issues that could cost a ton of money. Trans shifting hard could easily be a 6k trans replacement too. If I was you id stay away, there are tons of clean 6.7s out there under 200k miles with 0 smoke or issues. I bet if you increase your budget to 30k you will be able to find a way nicer truck without those issues.

Dude no lie, yours is one of the cleanest I've seen especially considering the year. Thanks for the tips, currently looking around for an older 6.7L-7.3L but I can't decide if the 06-07 5.9 cummins might be worth it over the stroke. If anyone has any information that may help me out id appreciate it! Whatever I buy will be a daily not pulling as much.

Correct, they tend to never balance right, wear out funky and fast too. You would need like 3 sets of 1,000$ tire’s before they outlast 1x $2,200 set

Your truck looks excellent and your content is great. But honestly I can’t see how people buy powerstrokes after looking under the hood of one. As a guy who does all his own maintenance/repairs, the complexity of a powerstroke when compared to a Cummins is a no go for me. There is shi* everywhere under a Ford. Cummins is super easy to understand a not filled with piping and coolers and crap literally all over the engine bay.
@nick7.3985 ай бұрын
An older cummins yes, all newer diesels have tons of parts under the hood, they look intimidating but are easy to take apart
