A tip for the thyme is to throw it in stem and all, and while it cooks, the leaves will fall off, and then you can just remove the stems when it is done.😊

A fun recipe for thanksgiving leftovers is to take crescent dough, keeping 2 triangles together to make it more of a rectangular shape, put a little turkey, stuffing and cranberries in and top with a little Swiss cheese. Fold over and brush with butter then bake. Makes little thanksgiving leftovers hand pockets.

You can get a great broth by boiling the bones of the turkey. There is usually a lot of meat left that comes off easily after boiling. I throw in the wing tips and leave any stuffing if you stuffed your turkey. Gives it great seasoning. Happy Thanksgiving and God bless.

I use my leftover Holiday Turkey and Ham to make my Hot Brown Casserole that you featured as a Subbie Supper several years ago. It is a casserole with French bread cubes, Turkey and Ham, a cheese sauce, bacon and tomato. My husband works on Holidays unless it happens to fall on his off day. So since he works nights he will sleep all day. I will go to Moms for a potluck with my siblings and our kids. Then my daughter Hayley and I will cook our Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday so Mark can celebrate Thanksgiving too. We are making Turkey, Ham, Dressing, Homemade Egg Noodles and gravy, green beans, roasted Brussels Sprouts, mashed potatoes, sweet potato soufflé, cranberries , homemade yeast rolls and pumpkin pie. I will freeze both some Turkey and Ham to use to make a Hot Brown Casserole to eat for dinner the night that we celebrate Christmas which this year will be the Saturday before Christmas since that is one of Mark's off days.

Happy Thanksgiving! We retired my mom from Thanksgiving duties about 5 years ago. She was a school cafeteria lady for 23 years and taught me everything about feeding the masses. She does not believe in cutting down the recipe to fit the numbers. So we always have lots of leftovers. I make a casserole; sometimes two, for a later date. Dressing on the bottom, then the turkey and top it off with the gravy. Cover tightly and pop it in the freezer. Thaw and heat in the oven; serve with sides. I would have to say it is BETTER than the original!!! Love your videos!

Hey Mandy, in regards to your scale, it should have a "tare" button which you hit after you place the container you're measuring into on the scale. That zeros the scale so you don't have to turn it off and on (saves a step). Waves hi from north Georgia!
@caseys6560
@caseys6560 11 ай бұрын
I use the tare button all the time for measuring! You can also put your box of noodles (or any item like mayo, pb, etc.) on the scale, tare it out, and then measure out the number of ounces you need into the negative range - so if you need 12 oz. then you just take out the pasta until you see -12 oz. on the scale. I'm sure others can explain this better, but it is a great trick I learned!

I think the intention with the recipe for the Turkey Stew was to make a thick, pot pie filling type soup. That would explain the large cuts of vegetables as well as the indication to use the oven. If you had used the oven, it would have been much thicker and more concentrated in flavor, but your way was obviously delicious as well.

My family favorite turkey leftover dish is making a bbq turkey pizza with the left over turkey. Use your favorite bbq sauce in a big bowl add cut up turkey and sliced onions. Pour that over a pizza dough. Then put mozzarella cheese on top. I put that in an oven at 425 for about 20 minutes until the crust gets golden brown.

@@rangerannie5636Actually Annie, ur comment is honest and reveals u don't hold the same beliefs but u are civil enough to recognize "it gets Alma thru her day" but how much u miss! The things that Alma and I have are a deep hope, tangible ways we see Gods love and his promises that stand the test of time ... none of those things can be seen but like the laws of gravity (which also isn't seen but very real, esp if u jump off a roof) they are real and tangible. I think ur honesty & openness to say what u don't believe is a sign that ur actually getting closer to an encounter with Jesus than u realize. I know how u will feel when his love comes into ur life and so I'm gonna be praying everyday for u dear Annie. Jesus is a gentleman and will not force himself into ur life, but as the sweetest lover of ur soul, will woo u to himself and u will find u have a longing that is desperate to be filled in ur heart! I hope this doesn't scare u or make u mad when I say it, but I believe someday soon in the future, ur gonna gush like Alma & I do and the love that bursts out of ur heart is gonna be because u finally believe. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Annie, & u remember, I'm gonna be praying that angels surround u! Sending big hugs & the love of Jesus from West Michigan! 🙋‍♀️🌻🙏🧎‍♀️🎃🍁🌄

Here is your oven answer.... They go in the oven because that's how great Grandma did it. Explanation: A young lady was learning to cook TG dinner for the first time. Mom is showing her daughter how to prep the ham and cut it in half. The daughter asked, "Mom why do you cut it in half?" Mom says, not really sure that's how Grandma showed me so ask her. Granddaughter goes and finds Grandma. Grandma why do you cut the ham in half? Grandma says, Great Grandma taught me and that's how I have always done it. Let's ask great Grandma. They all find great Grandma and her why. She says "well dear, back when I was young all I had was two small oven pans so I had to cut it in half. 😊

Also, as an FYI in case you didn't know, converting from a dry herb measurement to fresh is to multiply by 3 so, if the recipe calls for ½ tsp. dry, you would use 1½ tsp. fresh.

Hearty turkey stew was a hit at our house with all four grand kids ages: 8, 9, 11, and 12 all taking a second serving. I used the leeks and used the slow cooker feature on my instant pot and when the potatoes weren't tender close to dinner I used the soup feature for 6 min. and they were perfect.

My family uses all the leftovers stuffing, potatoes, gravy and turkey to make what we call Christmas slop. Hubby's naming sounds horrible, but the boys and their friends all love it! We just mix it up in a pan and heat through kinda like a stove top casserole. We came up with it during our 2nd year of marriage after we spent the months grocery budget getting food for the big day. We had eaten plates of leftovers for 2 weeks and were both tired of it so we got in the kitchen and started throwing stuff in a pot. I sent the oldest measured out ingredients in baggies with cans of chicken as care packages when he was in college lol. He loved momma Lisa's care packages especially when I would send that along with my cranberry breakfast jelly and other jellies but his wife came up with her own twist to our old favorite by adding the cranberry jelly to it. That jelly isn't like the stuff in a can or homemade it's my own concoction that's more like a toast jelly lighter in flavor than the other stuff. We've been married going on 32 years now but some of my favorite memories are when we had nothing but each other and managed to still get things done.

I learned from a top chef. That when you go to clean your mushrooms, you do not wash them in water. you just lightly brush them off with the same little brush that you use to scrub your potatoes because mushrooms have so much water in them.

Another great video! I've found that using a glass to weigh out spaghetti noodles works best! It keeps them contained! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Tradition in my family is to make turkey quiche. Using stuffing/dressing pressed into a pie plate for the crust, then shredded leftover turkey about a cup, maybe more, and about 4oz of havarti cheese, top that with about 6 eggs scrambled with a little cream, then bake and serve with gravy! And the gravy is absolutely key to this quiche

I didn't catch the "snack while you eat" til you corrected yourself😂. If I cook while I'm hungry, I'll snack til I no llonger want to eat my meal. Can just hear my mom "you'll spoil your dinner!!"😬

My favorite leftover is to make “shepherds pie” with all the dinner leftovers (except pumpkin pie!). Layer with dressing, turkey, green beans, gravy and the. Top with mashed potatoes and bake for a while. Yum

Thanks, meemaw!!! I kinda panic with all the leftovers and turkey…soups/stews can only be eaten so many days in a row before I need a break with something else… you reminded me of the “Shepherds pie” with mashed potatoes!!!

After cooking for a few days - or more - the idea of turkey salad for sandwiches sounds great to me! You can put in what you like - craisins, cherries, grapes, etc. Those with a nice vegetable or potato soup (canned - you deserve a break) would be the perfect meal for the weekend.

You can use the holes of a colander, if they aren’t too big, to remove the herb leaves off the stems. I can’t eat turkey so I’ll be making these recipes with chicken, too. Thanks so much! Have a wonderful, blessed Thanksgiving. God bless!

Hi Mandy, happy Thanksgiving. I use leftover chicken/turkey to make a slow cooker chicken marengo. Shredded chicken, bacon, Cream of tomato soup, mushrooms and don't forget the bouquet garni. Its fab. Another use is quesadillas. Any other bits of chicken/turkey, I feed to the local foxes, they love it lol. Thanks for sharing xxx
