Ps. I'd like to clarify something! When I'm speaking about fair use in this video I'm speaking in the very general sense that you'd take an obviously well known and copyrighted song, put it in a monetized video of you doing makeup or something else, and say it was fair use because you used less than 30 seconds. Fair use IS a real defense sometimes depending on many factors & you'd have to convince the copyright holder or a court that your use of the song falls under the actual protection of fair use. What I wanted to convey is that many people think fair use is simple & clear cut and it's not. Fair use is very very unlikely to cover you in the scenario I'm speaking about in the video but it doesn't mean fair use is never valid which I think may have been confusing, so for more information on the nuance of this you can start here: www.adweek.com/socialtimes/fair-use-youtube/62896 & I suggest looking into other sources as well if you're still unsure!

This video series you're doing sounds like a lot of work, but it's all stuff I've been dying to know, so it's very much appreciated! This is seriously one of my favorite channels and you are one of my favorite people, and it's because of all you do for us and how it shows. I seriously adore you Mykie, and I can't thank you enough for making me laugh with your quirkiness, informing me with your insight, and building me up with your advice and kindness. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart Mykie because of these's videos. you have inspired me to finally start a KZbin channel. I have watched beauty tutorials since i was 14 years old (21 now) , and have always wanted to do it for fun. i also love to sing, but i've never really have sang in front of anyone, i was so shy about it. When i was 17 i did a live karaoke thing and decided to just try it. i picked a tough song (total Eclipse Of The Heart By Bonnie Tyler). i was so scared. i knew i was either going to be laughed or hear silence. I got a complete reaction and a standing ovation. i was o proud of my self. i know i can sing well. i still have a lot of improving to do. but now that i know i truly do and have potential to do great things with my channel. I am now confident enough to just start. i put up my first video ever up yesterday. i worked so hard on it. I sang Strong By. London Hammer. It took me over 3 hours of nonstop recording to get it to sound the best i could with no equipment it was so hard. I know have a Full-time job so i'm working my ass off to get me a mic and sound muffler on it, and head phones. i have a camera somewhere and i already have lightening cause of my makeup vanity. I just want to thank you, because part of why i haven't had started, was because i literally had no idea how to start. Please if anyone is interesting in music and beauty tutorials please subscribe to me. it would mean the world to me to have you on Team Luna.

I just want to say that I think it's really awesome of you to take the time to truly explain to others the basics, as well as some tricks of the trade, of being on KZbin. Even so far as to explain how you edit instagram and thumbnail pictures. Some KZbinrs out there keep these tips a secret, leaving people wondering (despite many, many, MANY people asking on Twitter, in the comments, etc.). Almost as if there were some sort of competition with other KZbinrs, or people were supposed to think that they are just inherently perfect or good at things that take months, sometimes years, of practice and trial-and-error. It just seems like you genuinely want to see people succeed and have fun. Keep up the good work, you're one of most genuine people I've come across.

I am so happy that you mentioned Avid! I learned both Final Cut Pro and Avid when I was in film school, and I very much prefer Avid over Final Cut. I like it mostly because I never had problems saving my files, or getting the dreaded "Media Missing" screen. I also felt way more creative when editing on it, because of my options. Mostly the filter and colour correction options is what I loved. It made me dread it a little less when the director would say "We'll fix it in post". Also, on a personal level, I just really dislike Mac. The interface was something I never really got used to, and files would always disappear on me. One downside to Avid though is that it is VERY intimidating. There's so much more you can do, but in the end it's so worth it. If anyone is interested in becoming an editor for Hollywood movies, leaning Avid is a must. I would say the learning curve to getting comfortable with it is about a month (with editing 10 hours a week at least). After using it for one semester (four months), I could start it up and get into it a lot faster. In my last semester it was a lot easier, although I still feel like there was a lot more I could have continued to explore. But I, (and the people in my class who put in the effort in their work) still ended up getting perfect in the practical exam at the end of the year, so don't be too discouraged. The exam was simple things like adding a transition, filter, title, ect.

Thank you for doing these videos Mykie! They are far more useful than just youtube. I currently attend an art school that is mostly focused on the 2d art, but I recently (a little over a year) have gotten really into film after working on a movie set over the summer. I want to include some film in my art shows at school but since my school doesn't offer any classes I have to teach mah-self. Your videos are incredibly helpful in that regard, with showing the tools I need to make the work that I want. Thank you so much.

I have my degree in Journalism with an emphasis on Broadcasting and we used Avid for our television station. It crashed all the time, and the filmed students preferred Final Cut over Avid. We only used Avid for news because we had a whole package with other news options, but when I interned at a local news station they used Final Cut (like many do). So overall, Final Cut is the better option.

As someone who does V.Os for most of her videos, I recently realized it's important to vary how things are worded. Because I record my V.Os in pieces and not all at once, I have to be careful not to end up with two or more sentences in a row that start and/or end the same way. As for allowing longer seconds in between instructions, I've found it's very important, when doing a tutorial to have at least a second or two of silence in when moving from one set of instructions to another. That way people know, we're done with this part, and we're moving on to the next.

MYKIE, I'm a freshman at Temple. I'm in the process of choosing a major and I just started a KZbin channel, Instagram, all that fun stuff. I wanted to know what classes/programs at Temple in particular were helpful or NOT useful for your KZbin/social media career! ❤️
@mykie
@mykie 8 жыл бұрын
Oh hey TU! I'd say most were not helpful haha. You can easily make KZbin videos off the knowledge from the first level editing class and one of the basic lighting courses (I don't remember their names), but at the time I was there you could only take those classes if you were a film major so if you haven't picked yours yet I don't know if that's applicable advice. But you can also learn those things online so easily now- those courses didn't go into very good depth in my opinion. If you want a major that goes with a social media career I'd actually say business is a better bet. It's something I wish I knew more about now that I'm in the spot I am. Hope this answer kinda helps! And watch out for the squirrels on campus!

Side note, if you want to do FX on carpet, you can go to a house painting store and get one of the canvas drop cloths they sell for painting inside walls in homes. I got mine at sherwin williams. I am a full time acrylic painter and I do body painting and FX and I still have yet to ruin the carpet in my room. It's an option.

I mean this in the best way, because you are beautiful. You look like you could be a cousin of the Cullens in Twilight.
