I've got a back condition that impacts my gait, which makes wearing most smart shoes extremely uncomfortable. Are trainers a definite 'no no' even if they are new or like new and clean? Those are the types of shoes that are the most appropriate for me. I have worn smart shoes on interview days only to end up being a horrendous experience.

Hi Mary, great question! In this case I think you will be okay wearing trainers, especially if they are all black and are clean. I’m not sure what other “smart shoes” you’ve tried, but in the US we have a brand of footwear called Dansko, which is very popular in the healthcare setting - I wonder if shoes like these might work for you as they are not trainers but they are supportive and typically “stylish.” They can be expensive, but I had one pair that I wore regularly in the workplace and it was worth it for the comfort and professional look.

@@LifeWorkBalance I am based in the UK and Dansko doesn't seem available here. New Balance trainers are my favourites in terms of overall foot support. I do note the colour black you mention as it would be better suited for an interview and will keep looking for other brands for a more professional look. Thank you for the tips!! ☺

Abby i have 2 imp.questions : - which Communication books can help in assertiveness with boss and self advocacy at workplace ? - which Interpersonal relationships books might help in today's work environment that sometimes become toxic too..

Good question! I’ve noticed you are frequently interested in the self-help professional books. I’m impressed! Many times the self-advocacy/assertiveness gap comes out inability to hold our own boundaries because we are afraid of conflict, don’t want to hurt peoples feelings, or want to be seen as certain way. One of my favorite books on boundaries is “Set Boundaries, Find Peace” (looks like it’s almost 50% off today: amzn.to/4fsZKEH) Another good one might be, “Not Nice” (amzn.to/3WQCw40) As for the interpersonal books, maybe something on resiliency? Maybe “Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?” amzn.to/3Ac0SMK

If you are not chosen for the job, is it okay to ask them how you did on the interview? Maybe a few tips? I am just getting back Into the workforce and it is brutal out there. I have been interviewing for so long, and nothing yet. It kind of seems there is an issue with my age at 60. Please advise. Thank you.

DEFINITELY! Here’s a video on that topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYGvZ6yugrJnpKssi=GNzXuCPfaMc6Jrit I’d recommend asking for “advice” because it feels less negative than asking for “feedback.” You can say something just like you said in your comment above: “Thank you for letting me know I’m not moving forward in the process. While I’m disappointed, I also know the job market is very competitive. I’m just getting back into the workforce and I’m feeling a bit rusty on my interview skills and how the interview/job process is working. Do you have any advice for me as I continue my job search and interview for other jobs?”

What about checkered shirt and plain, solid coloured trousers.

This will work, though I’d be hesitant to wear the checkered shirt on a virtual interview if you’ll be using a virtual or blurred background.

Is it okay to wear all black to an in person interview in Summer? Should brighter colors be considered for the season?
@LifeWorkBalance3 ай бұрын
Great question! I think all black is okay, but I would personally add in a splash of color regardless of the season - lighter/brighter colors feel like a better fit for summer. I’d probably do black shoes + pants with a light/bright blouse and maybe a black blazer.
