Does anyone else remember wearing all those cotton Madras plaid shirts in the 70s? They were big with us teenagers, as I was then.

I thoroughly enjoyed your post today. I really appreciate your classy modest styling. I enjoyed your post with Cindy Hattersly and I agree with all your inspirational people too!! I grew up wearing dresses all the time in the summer. I don't think people realize how much cooler a dress is than something with a waistband with a shirt tucked in.

I live in hot, humid east Texas where we start sweating as soon as we get in the car that’s been sitting in a parking lot. The sweat dries in the A/C indoors, then sweat again heading to the next place. Clothes have to be washed or dry cleaned after one wearing during the summer. A sleeveless dress or shorts is the best option, but at 63 my youthful skin is long gone. Still I try to find cute things, at 5’ 1” that’s a whole other challenge. Not giving up! Thanks for these tips!

5 ft tall in Alabama…I understand the struggle, I really do. 😄😄. I am wearing more dresses now, hardly ever jeans, and shorts only at home. At 65 I’ve let my upper arms get flabby, but I don’t really mind, I still wear sleeveless things. Also I unfortunately shop at Walmart….the awful photos of Walmart shoppers are pretty accurate. I look like an heiress in comparison. 😂😂😂 I have several linen dresses and have bought quite a few tee shirt dresses from Walmart, and TJ Maxx. Also, Walmart has had really cute little sleeveless swing dresses in a comfortable knit. And they have pockets! 😁. I’m retired and live in a small rural town outside Birmingham, and my life now doesn’t require any really dressy clothes.

I’m 72, 5’ tall and live in hot humid NC. I am a high/low shopper, so I buy some special pieces at Chicos or J Jill but also shop Walmart and thrift stores. I love Walmart’s sleeveless shirts this season. I bought 5 of them!

Great tips! Appreciate all your work (modeling!) and positive, pleasant manner. I’m remembering summer fabrics: gingham, plisse, voile, lawn, seersucker. Even for the guys… seersucker suits!

These are also good outfits for doctor or dentist visits, grocery or other shopping, casual restaurants, lunch or coffee with a friend, movies, indoor activities with grandchildren. I like to wear something casual nice for hair and nail appointments. I do not do yard work and have old clothes for dog walking. Great tips. Love that you included black for summer. I recently bought black linen pants. I have everything tailored so nothing is too baggy. I did buy summer weight sweaters ..a black 3/4 sleeve lightweight plisse fabric one and a bit heavier one in radiant orchid for those ultra cool indoor spaces. Love the kimono on you. Not sure how one would loook on my short and overweight body. We need to try to look as nice as possible when going out. Thank you Kay for all your wonderful fashion tips.

You are so right about statement earrings. Recently, I bought some large, lightweight, pineapple earrings from Chico's to wear with my summer wardrobe. I never want to be bothered with necklaces and bracelets in the heat. I also purchased the 3/4 sleeve linen dress you showed from JJill in two colors. I like the longer sleeves to protect my arms from the Florida sun. My local dry cleaners offers "pressing only" so I've got enough linen dresses to always have one being professionally ironed. It's all I can manage to dry my hair in this heat. I've had comfortable dresses from Coolibar in the past also. We are on the same wave length because I have metallic sandals on order too. Great tips for hot weather.

Also in addition: Love it that black is added...I wear lots of black and it's true: If we're not exposed to direct sun it doesn't matter what colour we wear

I live in hot, but generally dry, California and I can’t stand anything but linen in high summer, it makes such a big difference in comfort. I have a good collection of linen dresses and separates now, all ironed and ready to wear, I’m ready for the heat! It’s still around 65F or less here (San Francisco). Unusually, we had 100% relative humidity and lots of rain yesterday, June 6.

Here’s a tip to minimize your linen from wrinkling - spray the garment with spray starch before ironing. It helps!
@heidimeigs5192 Жыл бұрын
I don’t iron anymore, but I used to starch my linen twice. It helped in hot and humid Alabama. I’m retired now and don’t care about looking rumpled. Also, the more your linen is washed the softer it gets and the better it feels.

I’ll have to try those Native products. Thank you for that and for your other tips. I use spray “sizing” on linen and cotton things. It’s gives a tiny bit of structure and helps it to stay smoother longer. Try it!

I refuse to iron anymore but used to use sizing and starch when I did. I was married to an active duty military member and ironed his uniforms rather than send them to the cleaners. I was good at it…once a superior officer asked him where he got his uniforms done, because he always looked so sharp. But I’m done with that now…..😅😅😅😅

Love the different tips. Had pants made of linen and viscose blend..it's soft and carefree and not wrinkly... Linen clothing or thin cotton is very comfortable and cool. Looking forward to summer and always good to have a basic wardrobe to add pieces to. Good to find our own style! Mine is more casual and flowy but love your tip from much earlier video to stay modern or add modern accessories.

Hi, I have a few dresses and tops made of light viscose and love them as much as my linen when it's hot! Rami is also a great fabric to look for, it's very light and natural - even lighter than linen. Another tip is to wear airy clothes and avoid tight ones. I live in Greece and when it's really very hot, I tend to avoid dark or bright solid colors no matter the fabric as they immediately show any little trace of sweat. Light colors are much safer, just like fabric with patterns.
@kimberlyperrotis8962 Жыл бұрын
No-iron linen is generally 100% linen with a no-iron coating, my Chico’s shirt is. The coating does reduce the breathability, but only slightly, it’s still very comfortable. In cotton, I get sweaty, then cool down from the damp fabric, but in linen, sweat evaporates before one feels any moisture at all. I iron my linens carefully after washing, and before each wearing if they’re still clean, then just don’t stress about the wrinkles they get when wearing them. It’s part of the look. Ironing is essential, not only to remove wrinkles, but to reshape and smooth the fabric, linen can crumple into tight vertical folds after washing and can feel rough. Using the gentle cycle on the washer helps reduce this wrinkling in linen clothes, as does hanging them right after it stops (they will be dripping).

Good morning, Kay. I love the Native deodorants. I have the eucalyptus and mint "flavor." Another benefit of this product is that it doesn't cause residue when putting on your clothes. Great tips to keep cool in the summer as the Phoenix climate here can be scorching. However it is a dry heat, but still HOT! You look marvelous in the Talbot's dress.

I live in Sicily and the only way to survive the intense summer heat is to wear linen. No cotton or silk. But, rather like silk, linen comes in all sorts of qualities. The best I've ever had came (10 years ago!) from Vilebrequin, an oversized shirt with a fish and coral print. Wash and dry, no iron - and it is pure linen. For the rest, linen jersey solves the problem of creasing

I once foolishly decided to wear a silk outfit or two in the hot, humid tropics. 🤔 Never again! The clothes became limp & clung to my body! So uncool! (Pun intended!). So my preferences are dresses, shorts, & ankle-length pants in lightweight rayon, lightweight linen, & gauzy cotton. By the way, a few yrs ago, I wore a lovely sleeveless, loose-fitting linen top, & was so incredibly hot & sticky in an air-conditioned vehicle. Why? Just why? Lol. I still like that top a lot, but not going to wear it in humidity!

Kay - love your videos. You talk about how good sunglasses look and I agree. Trouble is I wear glasses, not contacts. I've never worn sunglasses because the bright sun doesn't bother my eyes. But I want to look cool! Any thoughts?

You can buy prescription sunglasses. Also, some glasses will darken to nearly sunglass look, and others come with clip-ons that make them into sunglasses. Good luck!

My glasses have two tiny magnets-one in each outside corner of the lenses. I have a special pair of sunglasses (just the lenses and no earpieces) with magnets in the same locations. The sunnies attach to my glasses, and are the same shape as my glasses frames, so align exactly with my glasses. A very cool feature!
