A few months ago I did a street survey to find out what my fellow Americans know about Turkey and what message they would like to give to Turks? On today's episode of Kult America I hit the streets of Istanbul to ask Turks what do they know about America and do they consider America to be their friend?

I love turkey I'm going to turkey this summer and I'm so happy 'bout that. I love that turkish people can speak english enough to help tourists also they tend to try helping me about everything just like they do to other tourists. Thank you 😍Turkey😍 EDIT: It was 2 years ago. During this time I went to Turkey twice. I even learnt Turkish a little bit. So sad that I won't be able to do that again due to corona virus

Turks criticizing America please remember that Turkey was the America of the middle ages. What I mean is that Turkey was the most powerful country and bullied the countries around them. Making war against them, Controlling them. America just happens to be the world superpower right now but it was you back then.

But they know the best way of kill a human. We didn't kill anybody by our pleasure. Turks were beside of innocents and they will be. Europe suffered their citizens and USA brought black guys. USA used Africans like a slave. If Ottoman wanted to this, they would can. Prophet Mohammed says it isn't any superioritiy of white guy to black guy and black guy to white guy. I'm glad that we're not like that, I'm glad that we know 'faith' as 'true power'. That's what make us strong. Just please, don't write that kind of things and make yourself look ignorant, again. It's more appropriately called 'prejudice'( prejudging) 'Racism' has to do with skin color (race In any case, the M.E. generally have a medley of so called prejudices, which has lasted over a thousand years ....it's quite a mess, and therefore there will always be wars and discontent, and usually this mindset is fueled by family, and yes, even government. The coming of the younger generations know it's their great grandfathers ' problem, and it either dies with him, or they are set out to seek revenge, and the shit never stops......yeah, this could get long so I'll be brief. Prejudice and racism is everywhere, but the general population, of any country, really do want to live peacefully and are not out to get anyone just because of skin color, religion, or heritage..

What we think about USA? Well, Every country works for themself and for their own interests, they have to, so I am not going to say anything about USA's bloody Middle East policy or stuff. Because of goverments, maybe people think bad things about the other countries, but in actual, without diplomacy, all people can live in peace together generally. One Message to American people: -FORGET WHAT YOUR MEDIA SAYS, SCREW WHAT YOUR GOVERMENT DOES, JUST BELIEVE AND BEWARE THE TRUTH, AND HAVE A PEACEFUL PERSPECTIVE TO LIFE.

To people who want to learn about the USA; understand that just because you’ve been to NYC or LA doesn’t mean you know what the rest of the USA is like. You’re going to need to visit a lot more than the big cities. Visit the national parks and state parks. Also try to visit some smaller communities too

Sadly turks you bumped into couldn't really tell much. I've seen the video you made in Pennsylvania, and surprisingly enough couple of them knew way more about what's going on in Turkey than some locals who lived here whole their lives. But then again language barrier makes all the difference so it may have been better to make them speak in turkish then add subtitles. The only thing I wanna add is that countries can't be "friends", they can only be "allies" :) Have a good one!

Turkish people know loots of this about America(music, movies, electronics, food etc.) but as I can see we don't know about American people cause we couldn't find a chance to be in contact with them. I worked with some American people before and I can clearly say that there are soo nice people among them and I'm still in contact them. They are trying to understand us, our culture, our life and very respectful when they are doing this. So everybody wants peace! Only peace! We should accept ourselves and try to learn how to be happy together. Everybody deserves a good life. Live in peace!

Lived in San Antonio, TX for 3 years, I have many things to say about both countries, I miss US when I'm in Turkey, and I miss Turkey when I'm in US. People are mostly friendly in both countries, the one major difference is about individualism I think. In US, everyone is so independent (and lonely), in Turkey family is everything, people are too dependent on others. I like the fact that people know and care about "personal space" in US, good luck in Turkey about that. Also I was so scared to get severely sick or injured when I was in US, because health sector is a total wreck. Turkey is much much better in medical and health related issues. And the shores... God I couldn't find any decent water to swim in, in US. I tried Galveston, Panama City Beach, Miami, Austin (Barton Springs), but Turkey's beaches are just paradise compared to all that. Both countries have their perks, but if I had the chance, I would work and live in US, and visit Turkey occasionally.

Well, I have a turkish background but born and raised in Denmark. Because of my personale interest in politics (I think) I do know much about the US as a state and therefore I agree that US political decisions are based on only the Americas best and interests, but this does also count in some way for Turkey. Their decision are also based on interest and what is best but not just for the turkish community, but the islamic and middle east people's interest and goods (thats what politics is). But when it comes to american people I would've it quite hard answering that question cause the american nation includes different kind of people, maybe it has something to do with their history, but other than that I don't know americans well (other than bloggers and politicians which I don't think should count - it would be unfair to define a whole national based on a few individual opinions)
