We all know someone with psychopathy.

But few know the truth about it. We’re helping change that… by helping you know the signs. Know about treatment options and resources. And know you’re not alone.
Lillyth Quillan was the first parent to publicly use her name and her face and say she was the mother of a child with Conduct Disorder. In 2014, she created and founded Parents of Children with Conduct Disorder (PCCD), a Facebook-based support group for parents and other caregivers of these children. Over the last six years, Lillyth has personally spoken or communicated with thousands of families. She remains as dedicated to the cause of including non-intimate partner violence in the national Domestic Violence conversation, early treatment for our children, and political action as the day she started PCCD.
Lillyth joined us on Zoom to discuss what it is like to have a child with Psychopathy.

I went through this in 80's and 90's. Literally zero real help. Church, Cops, counselors, teachers, everyone had their theory and advice on how I could do better for my kid. Don't worry they all grow out of it; they said. It wasn't until social media platforms like this blessed me that I found my kid and discovered I wasn't alone and am not to blame. Thank you for sharing your story.

I’m sure it was worse when people blamed you for his behavior.

Thank you for sharing, Lillyth. Did "Kevin" choose any kind of counseling after getting a diagnosis? I'm interested in learning how he's managing the usual "stumbling blocks" such as boredom, emptiness, etc. It would be enlightening to get "Kevin's" perspective and perceptions as well.

I can confidently predict that Kevin doesn't want therapy unless it is to try to con or hurt the therapist, and asking him his perspective would only lead to an inception of lying.

@@Joulean I'm not completely sure of that. she mentioned in a different video that he was lonely during his childhood because of his lack of ability to connect to other children. despite their lack of empathy and lack of many other emotions, psychopaths do have a desire for human connection

Mine was, for more than a decade, diagnosed with ADHD but it was CLEARLY much more than that. From birth! So, we'd go to the MONTHLY half-hour visit with a psychologist/psychiatrist (I forget which he was) and he'd say to my child, "So, how have you been?" and the answer would *always* be, "Fine!" and that's that. No communication, no progress, no change - except that I (of course) was 'punished' for taking him there with the usual"You think I'm crazy so why should I listen to you!?" palaver. And on and on and on it goes. Even after jail, even after being sectioned 3x in a psychiatric ward, no diagnosis - but really there was no *INTEREST* in a diagnosis. He behaved himself (mostly), and then they said they saw nothing 'psychiatric' and on and on and on and on it goes... It's heartbreaking

I am a mental health social worker in Australia. We are reluctant to diagnose sociopathy here because many kids do grow out of antisocial traits but it creates a difficult paradox.

I was under the impression that a child cannot be DX with psychopathy until they are 17?

Do you think it's because there's a taboo and nobody wants to break the news to the parents? Would it not be against correct medical conduct to diagnose something so significant to a patient and not explicitly discuss it? Can you imagine a doctor doing the same with a cancer diagnosis and not being banned from the profession?!
