Ah, yes. The grass is always greener on the other side. The food alone is worth relocating to Italy. Plus people eat slower than America. It is fun to sit and talk for three hours or more over food with friends and family. That art of conversation gets lost in many other western cultures.

I was wondering why the drink at 2:09 was called Pago because in Spanish, pago means pay (and I'm sure it means the same in Italian) and so I thought maybe it's named such to imply you're paying for a quality drink but it turns out, it was founded in Austria in 1888 by brothers Franz and Jakob Pagitz and so the name is a combination of the first three letters of their surname Pagitz as well as the first letter of a German word for fruit, obst. Thus...PAGO! Love that Alessio's family still believes in superstitions. Us Cubans have our fair share of superstitions too. Like VapoRub (or Vaporu) being the cure for everything, having a bowl of lentils on New Year's Eve means you're gonna make more money, and not bringing home seashells! 2:25 The name of this depends on where you are! In Friuli and South Tyrol, it's a kraffen of course. But if you're in northern or western Germany, it's a Berliner! If you're in Hesse, it's kreppel! Or if you're actually in Berlin, Saxony, or Brandenburg, it's a pfannkuchen, which means pancake! They're more famously known as Berliners because of a legend where a Berlin baker was deemed unfit for combat and so he became a regimental baker and made donuts the old-fashioned way for the Prussian army and soldiers named them Berliners after his hometown.

Ai Cacciatori doesn't have a Michelin star but rather it has a Michelin Bib Gourmand award which means it offers quality dining at the best value for your money. But you can just tell a passion for food based on the way those serving it talk to you. And you know you're in a legit pizzeria when the tables have red and white tablecloth, classic chairs, a small potted plant, and there's very old pictures on the wall. Fruits and vegetables are just better quality and taste better in Europe than North America for a number of reasons. American farmers put an emphasis on yield and durability not flavor, American shoppers favor access over seasonality, the US government regulates for safety but not quality, and finding flavorful food is just a matter of priorities. An example of these differences is that most supermarket tomatoes sold in North America share a genetic mutation that makes them all round, smooth, and deep scarlet red when ripe. The only problem is that this widely-embraced mutation deactivates a gene that produces the sugars and aromas that are essential for a flavorful tomato.

i also noticed that americans go for grocery shopping only once a week compared to europeans. my fruits and veetables would never last fresh for a whole week!! we go at least 2-3 times and get the freshest frutis/vegetables as possible....

I saw on Instagram that you guys are going back to Italy! So excited for you guys that you get to go again so soon! My family and I are currently on vacation in Italy for the first time right now (Lucca and then going to Trieste). If you guys plan to make any videos while you're here I have some suggestions based on the differences we've noticed/things we've had trouble with while in Italy: Italian supermarkets (Esselunga: at self-checkout: you have to scan your receipt to get out of the gates, it asks you yellow bags or compostable bags; "Presto spesa" checkout where you scan your groceries as you shop). Household recycle/trash sorting. How to pay at the pump for gas. Figuring out the toll booths. Another difference that we learned from our Airbnb host is the government regulations on what being able to turn your heating on only during certain times of the year based on what region you are in At the grocery store, we also noticed they had several types of Mutti sauce made with 100% tomatoes from different regions (Sicily, Emelia, Puglia, Tuscany) - it would be fun to see if Alesio could do a blind taste test and guess which one is from which region.

I’m curious Jessi; did you have to learn to use your knife far more as an American? I follow a lot of different channels and something I’ve realised is that it’s far more common in Europe and here in the UK to use ones knife and fork. It seems it’s very common for Americans to just use a fork to eat and even cut things with the side of it. You always seem to use your knife, so I was just wondering. 😊 I’m a new subscriber, so really enjoying your content. ❤

Italy is beautiful,,,just not possible for everyone,,but it’s ok. ❤ And just for the record ,the USA isn’t all stressful and goal /money oriented,,,just depends on your choice and personality. There are beautiful countrysides in the states and slow paces of life. But the food…..❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ can’t beat Italian.

Do you feel better and lighter and healthier eating in Italy? So many people say they gain weight and feel like crap in the US but can eat the same in Italy and not gain weight and feel well. There’s so much speculation as to what is causing this; Chemicals/ pesticides that are illegal in EU that aren’t in the US, the water and on and on.

I think Americans eat dinner at 6 is because we start our days earlier so we can drive fo an hour one way to get to work so I un we get home after the hour drive home we r hungry and tired. So we have to eat help children eith homework clean up after dinner spend time as a family and put kids down at 9 amd then spend a little time together with ur spouse before going to bed @11. So then when u compare it to Italians and ho get up at 10-11 am pittle pattle around for a few hours. Take off work IF they are ven have a job if not a hey just take a nap until 4-5pm then they pittle pattle around again. So by 8 pm is what time That becomes available to them. Do Italians even have jobs?
