Growing up, we fed our dogs scraps and leftovers. They were happy and energetic their whole life. My daughter has ten dogs and she buys special food for them, they are very unhealthy and many take medications for anxiety. She is training to be a vet but it seems the more she treats them, the worse they get. I can't tell her to feed them leftovers either. Growing up, my parents grew and preserved most of what we ate. Today, she pulls things from a box and nukes it.

Newish subscriber from the recommendation of Sow The Land. We have a german shepard. She was a rescue through a vet. He had kidney stones and had surgery. The vet wanted him on a very expensive remade food for urinary tract and kidney. I researched and read about are food diets. He has been on raw food (mostly meats and meat products such as fat, skin) for 2 1/2 years now and has had no recurrence of is issues. He is so full of life and his coat is thick and shiny. Give them the food they were created to eat and their body systems will be so healthy and vibrant. Thanks for all your content. I watch several creators who practice permaculture. You explain it a little differently and clearly. I enjoy it. Blessings!

I'm a new subscriber and I'm loving your channel! Your enthusiasm for permaculture is contagious. And I agree with your politics as well. Looking forward to more great videos. I have Great Danes, currently have a 6 week old litter of puppies, too, and have moved to a non-GMO feed and give them eggs as well as fresh goat milk, but think I will change to something more like your recipe. The chicken feet soup has lots of glucosamine which is excellent for large dogs.

i prefer the pyr/anatolian. i have 6. more aggressive to predators, travels more ground patrolling, far less haircoat to deal with and they don't have that strong dog odor like pyrs do. less digging to get cool because of shorter coat. and they seem to eat less and still maintain good body condition. they will forage their own food as well. mine run down rabbits, armadillos, possums and racoons regularly. on the negative side, they decide how much area is their territory! mine guard my place, and all of my neighbors places at night. lol they are hard to contain. females tend to stay with the stock and males patrol. they work very efficiently as a team that way.

@@PermaPasturesFarm21 BTW I helped some relatives run some 'relatively' cheap cattle fencing. The local electric co pretty much gives away their old telephone poles when they are replaced. Use a chainsaw to cut them down to size - they make excellent corner pieces, and mid-sections. Used smaller posts in-between the larger cut electric pole posts, then strung it all with 4 strands of livestock barbed wire. It's not going anywhere! lol Anyway, just a thought to keep in mind as an option. Good luck!

It would be great to see more videos on dog health and feeding - your dogs are in great shape, and I'd like to start transitioning my own LGDs to this diet as well. Unfortunately, it may be next year before we can, as our small flock of chickens and ducks are just now, as fall rolls in, starting to lay. Rabbits are definitely in the works at some point but it'll be a while. Any tips on how to get started feeding this way when the 'farm' isn't as "full steam" as yours?

@@PermaPasturesFarm21 you won't have to worry. The wife and I honestly love your channel. We love that you guys show not only how you do stuff, but also WHY you do the things you do. Then you go back to the things you've done with updates. Good example is the chicken tractors and the almost 18 day compost. Lol. Theres no product placements and its just regular people doing regular things. Now we also know KZbin is a business, but during this pandemic we WERE watching about 10 different channels regularly. Now its just down to 2, and its another family, like yours, that is just documenting life on the farm. The others, have gotten bigger and its one product/business plug after another. Then there are the people that don't take pride in there work and just halfway throw things together for their animals. That bothers us, because you need to treat the animals in your care like a pet so to speak. By that I mean, making sure they are in a secure environment, they have proper shelter, they have adequate shade, and etc. I know farm animals are a source of food, but that doesn't mean you should haphazardly pen them up. Anywho, keep up the good work and keep on being regular people. Lol

Other than kelp, which is about $40, I plan to start Bob and Gracie on this diet. (As soon as my chickens start laying.) Do you think substituting comfrey for kelp will be ok? Update: Bought a 1 pound bag of kelp and will get some beef liver. Chicken feet stock will have to wait until I butcher some roosters. Hopefully the hens will provide enough eggs and it will save me the puppy chow cost. Weaning the chickens off store bought food. Only chicks get it. Once they graduate to the CToS, no more feed bills!

This was a hard video to watch. We have had 4 dogs. It is so hard to lose them that we will not do it again. Their names were Maxwell Smart , Kirby , Callaway , and Mulligan. I would make chicken breasts, black beans , carrots , green beans and eggs. It would be chopped up and mixed together than put in individual servings frozen and we would microwave the frozen food for 2 mins before feeding them. All were strong and healthy 3 Golden retrievers and the best was a black lab/springer mix she was a real athelete. All died in my arms ....3 of them at age 13 and one at age 8. We are in our 60’s with 4 grandkids. Peace to Q

Perma Pastures Farm of course as you know they are such a part of the family. We lost our 18 year old son in 2004 and our first 2 Golden’s died 2 days apart 2 weeks prior to Alex’s suicide. Devastating is an understatement. My wife and I had a strong foundation, we took turns carrying each other. Weird thing is Mulligan was born the day Alex died. Callaway was a descendant of a dog my father-in-law brought home from England after WWll he was an RAF pilot.
