My local butcher grinds all saw scraps and sells that as pet food, contains all the leftover bits. My GSD had so many problems until I switched her to all raw. And yes, 💩 is so small and disappears so fast! Plus, my 80 pound GSD only eats 12 ounces a day. Then they get all the fruit and veggies from the garden they want.

When we got a rescue dog, German Shepherd, he was is bad shape and just had surgery for kidney and gaul bladder stones. The vet said her would need a specialized diet for the rest of his life. After doing research, we decided to give him a all raw food diet. The vet couldn't believe the change in him at his 6 mo check up. His digestion was functioning normally. His coat was thick and shiny. His teeth were strong and white and no "dog breath". When meat started getting more expensive, we bought meat from the big grocery stores. He didn't like the meat at all. He could tell the difference between "factory raised " meats and grass fed, and refused commercial chicken.

Thanks for sharing my friend. Incredible!
@doodlesthegoose7085 Жыл бұрын
Interesting that even a dog could tell factory raised meats aren't good. We had a rescue we saved with raw diet too. It's a shame we didn't get her sooner. When we first got her, she had to have all her teeth removed as they were rotting so badly and her mouth was so infected. If I knew then what I know now, I probably could have saved them too! We originally gave her a very high end kibble. She was so bad on any kibble at all, she was psycho. It really affected her neurologically. Today, she ALMOST acts just like her name, Zen. We're not sure how old she is but she is definitely old and gray but she runs like a puppy. I attribute that to her diet.

My uncle owned a small butcher shop 30 years ago and I can remember once a week we would whip up a huge batch of dog food. Chicken livers, fat, eggs and sometimes he would even incorporate some stale bread that didn't sell. He would feed it to his wife's champion breed of Dalmations that lived off this stuff. Homestead-made dog food is the best!

In Peru, specially in the countryside, nothing - and that really is nothing-gets thrown away. We eat offal, use the fat, the bones, everything.

My dogs get my "dirty eggs" (which I do wash) but they get eggshell and all RAW. They get a high fat % beef (we found high fat was necessary for one of our dogs who we couldn't get weight on for years!). They also get a good % of their meals in vegetables. This time of year, we're feeding them winter squash. In summer they get some berries, zucchini, green beans, and occasionally a tomato (when they get in the garden and thieve them off the vine)! We add some yogurt, dried kelp and powdered garlic. They love it and I've never seen healthier dogs! I wish we'd started this years ago. They do miss out on most organ meats because I didn't "process" those into smaller packages when our animals were butchered. This will be remedied when we buy another whole beef. They do get some bone as well. I ordered some sardines for a weekly high fat infusion for they and our chickens because Vitacost had a darn good price. I bought 50 cans.

Excellent video! I've sent hogs and steers to our local butcher and you've helped me realize that there is a lot I am not getting back that would be very useful. My dogs get eggs from my chickens, milk from my goats and bones and meat from the animals we've had processed plus an occasional mean rooster! They eat the whole thing-- including most of the feathers. Carnivores and omnivores in the wild eat raw eggs and meat. God designed it that way.

I couldn't tell if you threw out the eggs shells in the garbage. Eggs shells can be dried and ground into a powder with a coffee grinder or mortal and pestle if you want/need to add calcium. Veterinarians can test calcium in blood to see if it is too high or too low. Your dogs all look happy.

I don't have the land for many animals, but a neighbor shot 2 feral pigs and gave them to us for dog food. It was seriously painful to process them, but a lot of the meat was perfectly good for human consumption. I halved my dog food bill for that month. I want to raise rabbits for raw feeding, but the Pyrenees don't like eating 'someone' they have been protecting and I have trouble getting them to eat the rabbits unless they have been frozen. Same with the chickens. No way I can raise enough meat to maintain 3 of the monsters. Rice, pasta and sweet potatoes are good fillers, but they need the protein.. *sigh Kibble.. Went from $19 to $30+ and 50 to 40 lb

I love raw food diets and utilizing all parts of the animals and not throwing food away. BUT, I'm not so sure I like the idea of promoting the feeding pure pork fat with a couple eggs in it. This would be okay (but not ideal) in the short term. But in the long run, this is definitely not a balanced diet and is lacking in several nutrients. The organ meats are the most important part. I'm a big believer in the PMR style raw diet in which the whole animals is eaten. The way your feeding would be even more balanced if you included the other pig parts that probably get thrown away like the eyes, brain, blood, legs, hooves, stomach, ect. My local meat market sells vacuum sealed pig legs for dogs. And you can find pig snout treats at most holistic pet stores. Something to think about.

I hate to say it, but this is one thing I don't agree with you on. I have studied canine nutrition, and I am not going to argue with anybody on this.. Raw meat and eggs are NOT good for your dog.. just because they like it, does not mean it is good for them.. After all, a dog would drink a gallon of antifreeze if allowed to, and that will kill them. Meat needs to be cooked and so do eggs. Salmonella alone, is a good reason to cook the eggs, let alone raw egg whites are bad for your dogs. You won't see the bad things right away, but in time, they will start to have health issues. Egg whites contain an enzyme inhibitor known as Avidin. These inhibitors interfere with digestion. The effects are seen, to a greater extent, in elderly dogs, young dogs, and puppies. Avidin interferes with the absorption of Biotin, also known as vitamin H or vitamin B7 For their safety alone cook the eggs. Domestic dogs are not wolves, nor are they foxes, their dietary needs are different. Not to mention, it is not a balanced diet. I feed my LGD\s a homemade diet as well. But it is scientifically balanced. I use a site called Balance it. It has a recipe generator, where you input the foods you want to feed, and it gives you a recipe that allows the meal to be balanced and the right amount of calories. They also sell the vitamin and mineral supplements and tell you in the recipe exactly how much to give .. Lets face it, our LGD's are the most important tool on the farm, and we need to show our appreciation to them with the best food we can offer. Feeding him this way, is not the best you could do. My LGD\s are still pups but older ones, and their diet is 36% protein and and 45 percent fat. You can run the ingredients that you are feeding, and it will tell you where the food is deficient .. that way you can see for yourself, where the food you feed is lacking. My recipe uses moose meat trimmings that I get for free all year long, Quinoa, oatmeal, beans, spinach ( kale come summer) pumpkin, banana, oil, and eggs. I do use kibble, so they have some texture and crunch for their teeth...but it is 1/3 of the ration. I really hate to see people that don't know much about canine nutrition, trying to sell their idea of what is good. I say all this out of love, my friend, and mean no disrespect. But if your like me and want to do the best thing for your dog, than you will cook the meat and eggs. At leas doing that will increase the quality of the food you feed. Most vegetables can be fed raw, but no Onions at all .. there are a few foods you shouldn't feed, but that is a different topic altogether!
