Love the music @ the beginning! As a master electrician, I feel obliged to strongly caution you against the use of the "suicide cord" shown being plugged in at 1:17. The blades of the male plug are live whenever the cord is attached to the running generator and the circuit breaker is on. A much safer installation would be to use a male flanged inlet on the building and a matching female twist-lock receptacle on the end of your cord.
@phil49862 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that warning, That makes perfect sense. If I am ever around a generator like this and that cord type is around will know to warn others about this. Don't touch those tabs. Best to not have them there in the first place.

So the rat guard is a nice little project with long term benefits. It wasn't necessary before you insulated the inside, because there was no cavity to nest in (probably why the original owners never bothered with it). So at least you recognized that creating a cavity for rats to get into means you have to now address the rats. But what I like most about your videos is that you don't dumb anything down for your kids. You treat them as intelligent individuals, and it seems to make them willing to learn how to do things, which means you have educated and knowledgeable help for your projects. They're still kids, but they grasp the idea that a lot of stuff needs all hands on deck, and they seem willing to jump in. That's a great work ethic to instill, and that's been lost a bit, in the last generation or two. Two thumbs up, sir. 👍👍

Good stuff and family contributing to learning to be a team. I recommend a pebble style rocket mass heater. They are easier to build and modify later than other rocket mass heaters. RMH will drastically reduce your wood usage by ~70% you'll be spending less time loading the stove. The wood will heat the mass and then the mass will radiate heat for many hours after the fire.

Rat guard is a great starter strip for installing your panels. It elimenates having to line all the bottoms up and holding in place while screwing panel. Makes life a lot easier.

We have a 24x48 metal building that is garage/shop/apartment. Rodents were a problem for a while. We had the bug guy (pest control) come and set traps. When he was there he told us to leave lights on since the rodents don’t like the light. I have heard RVers leave a light in their engine compartments in certain parts. We left the hoods up in the garage with a shop light over each engine and they quit tracking eventually. All the best!

I never cared much for cats myself, but my little Lhasa/Yorkie was the best mouse catcher you ever seen! Was also great at catching moles or voles too. She had the patience of a Saint! She sit next to mole/voles mounds forever till one would come close to the top of the dirt mound and she pounce ripping the critter right out of the dirt. She was always proud of her catch and she bring it inside the house still very much alive and have to show it to me even in the middle of the night. Fortunately I could tell her to take it back outside and kill it now. You done a good job! I find it dead at the front door in the morning. When I cut my field she followed in front of my mower waiting for a field mouse to come running out and she nab it every time too. She was a terrific hunter! Anything she thought might’ve too big for her to kill, she come in the house and let me know she had a critter she needed my help with. If it had moved she sniffed it out till she found it! Sometimes we walked the whole perimeter of our 5 acres making sure she was happy the critters were gone off the property. She never ceased to amaze me

Male-to-male extension cords are simple electrical cords with prongs on both ends, allowing the user to connect one end to the wall power socket and another end to the power generator. Although such connections are quick and easy, there are a few very serious safety issues with them, giving these extension cords a rather grim nickname - suicide cable.
