Hello beautiful people,
I open up to you in one of the most vulnerable shares I have ever made on the internet talking about my 30 year journey with depression. And more specifically I go into detail about my experiences on the antidepressant drug called Bupropion/Wellbutrin.
I hope that by telling my story it may be of help to someone else out there going through something similar.
I would love to hear from you in the comments section if you have gone through something similar, or are considering whether to take antidepressants in the future. What are your thoughts?
All the best!

wellbutrin helped me SO MUCH - i struggled with really bad hypervigilance and intrusive thoughts of self violence, and both of those pretty much vanished overnight when I started wellbutrin. it's like it hard reset my nervous system so I could actually start living. I'll always be grateful for wellbutrin working when literally nothing else did 🙏

I literally JUST started taking bupropion for depression. I had researched all antidepressants for literally a year before deciding… I feel that it was detrimental to my mental health to do this, in hindsight. I was trying to find one without certain chemical Ingredients that I don’t want, such as titanium dioxide that they use for color, when in the meantime, I was suffering mentally due to some horrific life experiences. I finally said screw the chemicals I need help! I have been taking Wellbutrin for 2 weeks exactly and am beginning to feel some of the good effects. I think you so much for this video Conor and it couldn’t have come at a better time! I love when I find those videos that I feel were made specifically for me ❤ xoxo

SO MUCH respect for you and for sharing all of this. It truly is such a complex situation to navigate because you're right - we don't FULLY understand it, and it's a different situation for every person. Being intelligently wary of the system, but also realizing where it *may* have it's place in some contexts for some people is massive to see, and a great amount of intelligent nuance to hold. Sometimes we do all we can, and then we need support and to show that, to advocate for that and to work to remove the stigma of that - it's a great service to offer the world. I am so glad you're feeling better, and that you were willing to share this - hopefully it will help in the movement towards destigmatization and inclusivity!

thank you SO much for sharing this Conor! I've struggled even acknowledging that I experience depression and anxiety because I'm also very spiritual and I felt like those two things couldn't exist at once - like I'm failing my highest self by feeling in these unaligned states of being...:( I finally let myself acknowledge that about 6 months ago and started working on finding a drug that will help - I started with prozac but that hasn't seemed to help me at all, so my doctor is actually in the process of switching me over to Wellbutrin so great to hear your experiences. Thank you again! WE ARE ALL HUMANS!!!!!!!

Connor, I appreciate you sharing this. It is healthy to question. There are many of us within the US/western health system who also strongly question treatments and what the 'experts' say is ideal, mandatory, or a 'one size fits all' for the greater good.' When you're told to not question, or are shamed when you have skepticism... that is what a religious cult does. Thank you for being authentic, especially during these recent times. HEALTH IS WEALTH!!!!!!!

I too have suffered from depression on and off for much of my life. It was triggered by the death of my twin brother when I was 8. It is no surprise that you were addicted to alcohol and drugs given your body's desire to try and find some sort of equilibrium. I also suffer from ADHD which can go hand in hand with depression. Thanks for sharing your story. It takes a lot of courage to do so.

I’ve battled this for 3 yrs. You video was so helpful and encouraging for me. Very similar to my story. One thing you mentioned was the men’s group. How do I get involved in something like that. A women’s group I think would be very helpful and maybe I could help someone to. I think sometimes that the reason we have these battle and stories is To share to encourage and help. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing about your experience with depression. I personally have been depressed for years, and went through the whole shame thing. I still sometimes think about that but I try to remind myself that if taking antidepressants is what I need then I would do that to take care of myself. I have used SSRI's for years and they did help a lot and once I got into a serious relationship I noticed they killed my sexual desire too. I switched recently to Wellbutrin and I hope it helps.

I can so relate to anti-depressant meds kicking in quickly. Maybe 20 years ago, I felt relief the day after starting on it (an SSRI) and nobody believed it could work so fast. It was like the grey cloud lifted and I could actually relax and laugh again. Not on it now and still have low-level depression that can worsen at times, but I feel more able to cope and employ self-care

I went on a combination of psych meds during the height of the coronavirus pandemic. It triggered my PTSD and depression in a pretty major way. I hated what they did to my body and honestly, it didn’t help my depression or anxiety and just numbed me from feeling anything After 2 years I’ve begun the process of weening myself from the medications which is going to take several months but hopefully I can say goodbye to meds permanently by the fall. Thank you for sharing your experience, it will definitely help many.

Good to hear people with the same experience. My doctors did not believe I felt relieve in a few days. there was a moment they stopped providing it to me because I told them that I do not take in months in a row. I take it for the weeks/months I feel I need it. The nice thing about Wellbutrin is that you start to feel normal but not drugged. I am only scared for long term effects.

Just weigh pros and cons ? Do you smoke ? Drink ? How you eat ? How much the med helps you. Just try to live in the present. I know it can be scary. Quality of life and happiness is what really matters. Just my few cents

You're the last person I would've excepted to have depression, though you just never know what could be brewing at the core. I so freaking appreciate you being so transparent with us, the depression stigma needs to be eliminated. Just...NORMALZE EMOTIONS. I've struggled with depression for the past 10ish years and since November I've been on Effexor which is an SNRI. I use in conjunction with morning light, meditation, cold showers, nofap, etc and my mental health is the best it's been in years. Sure I still have deep dark depressive days where it's difficult to get outta bed, though like you said, maybe some things are just a part of being a human.

Glad I found your videos. Thanks for the information. I just started Buprophin today. I suffer from adult ADHD and I believe much of it is due to lifetime hormonal imbalance. I started Menopause Hormone Replacement therapy 5 months ago but still find when I start experiencing PMDD symptoms still yet, my anxiety and depression come back full force. I'm hoping it works for me to even be allowed to focus and help me to complete some of the 30 projects I have going on. I agree with you that you can't just depend on the medication, but changing lifestyle habits that would work with the meds.🙏🙏🙏

This is an excellent video. I had an almost identical experience as you. I'm also like you when it comes to my trust of the pharmaceutical industry/business. I'm off of Wellbutrin for now. With me, it only worked if it was brand Wellbutrin not the Bupropion generic. My body is super sensitive to medication of any kind. When I first was prescribed it, it was like a miracle switch. It was almost like a reset for my brain. It's true, at least for me, after a a time it does lose its efficacy. I have continued with my support systems and have had slip ups, however I don't feel the need to go back on. It also, unknowingly treated my ADHD.

I took it short term to pull myself out of depression. After about 3 months I was able to come off of it. In the beginning taking it made me feel worse. Couldn’t function at all but that did improve. Personally I knew once I was out of the depths of the depression I could manage the rest more appropriately. My only unhealthy habit is smoking cigarettes, off and on sodas. I cannot speak about chronic long term depression. Mine began when within two wks of the birth of my first child after an emergency c-section I was sick in the hospital for a wk. then home alone with a newborn with zero help after a major surgery. Within the two wks after her birth my best friend passed away in an ATV wreck, and two other dear people to me passed. All back to back. It was such a challenging time and I got little to no support from my exhusband. I had to take matters into my own hands and despite my efforts to avoid medication it got to the one year mark without improvement. I had to do something. So I sucked it up and took it. I felt like you. Like I didn’t need it. I didn’t need meds. I’m stronger and better. But unfortunately that at times is to our detriment. I took it until I felt comfortable enough to go at it on my own again. And I did it. It’s ok to reach out for help and it’s ok to take meds. Doesn’t make you less of a person or less strong.

I never thought I was anxious and depressed until I went to a Natural path for another issue. After an hour and a half consultation, she prescribed Lavender oil to help calm me. It worked immediately, I think because of my sensitivity to all things in life. During this time, I was able to do things I couldn't do before, as you mentioned. I think it's important to practice new behaviors during this time, in order to build new neuro pathways in the brain, establishing new ways of responding to life. I am grateful. Not to be a downer but I’ve been on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for 20 days now and my depression is just as bad as ever, and my anxiety is off the chart. I really hoped this medication would be a breakthrough for me but sadly not so. Suicidal thoughts, depression, and waking up with anxiety daily, I honestly think I was better before the medication. @jonathanberry9502

Wellbutrin worked for me from the first day. I think that if someone has symptoms of ADHD and depression they should try it, even if just a short course, even if just one pill to see if they get an effect. It does take longer for some and some might need 300mg a day. But I think this one can transform so many lives it should be handed out like candy, at least one pill to anyone with those symptoms. I had plenty or reluctance also but these conditions are far more unhealthy than the pill will be for most, and very hard to move by more wholistic means.

I used to say to myself, “Well, what did early man do for depression? Cavemen worked through it without a prescription!” Thankfully, years on, I’ve opened up to trauma therapy and psychiatric help.

Thank you so much for sharing, Connor. I am exploring my own journey having gotten back on an SSRI for anxiety. I tried medication for the first time after a traumatic period in my life when I reached a plateau in my therapy at the time, despite tremendous effort and progress. My body was creating a lot of pain from the stress and I was starting to disassociate. I had a similar experience on the medication where my brain felt "quiet" for the first time in my life. I stopped the medication and therapy a few years later due to lack of access. I had gotten to a better place anyway. However, another few years later I had moved state, gotten my first "adult job" out of grad school and as we were coming out of the pandemic, then unexpectedly moved to a position with higher responsibility during a time of fundamental change at my office. I decided to get back on an SSRI as I was experiencing a lack of control of my system. Now I am much better able to manage myself and my responses and feel like I have a much better chance at actually living my life. This has left me very curious about wether I may need to take medication for the rest of my life, if I am now more ok with that conclusion, and if it would even be useful/efficacious if I did. Hearing your experience is very informative and encouraging- both from the perspective of being on medication (Ive struggled with many of the thoughts and questions you did. I think many of us do ) and also from the perspective of life after them. I super appreciate if you find the time to read this novel 😂 - but I want you to know your sharing is so appreciated. It's great to know both that people have shared experiences with these things and also that some parts of the experience are unique. I also think you are definitely onto something with the idea of it having lasting effects even after going off it, and particularly if you are able to use that time to build a healthier life. I think I've experienced that, but I've got more work to do, yet. ❤

Have you looked into lamotrigine for depression? For the people it works well with, they have zero side effects.

I was put on Wellbutrin back in 2019. It was an escalating roller coaster of anxiety for me. From point of waking to point of sleeping (and a lot of disrupted sleep), I was in survival mode with super high anxiety and nonstop panic attacks back to back. After two months I isolated the cause and realized I wasn't about to have my head explode like those people in the movie Scanners. Stopped taking it and went back to my humble, depressed self which is a far more preferable experience than what Wellbutrin put me through. lol
