Showing Glinda is not “good” and Elphaba is not “bad”. It’s the people around them that give them these names. And they act accordingly. Call someone “stupid” or “worthless” enough times, and they begin to feel- and then- act that way. You can shape someone else’s life and influence your own life without even meaning to.

I was bullied when I was younger, I grew not too hate, but to standup for myself. Both my daughters were bullied in school also, funny tho, because they are successful adults now with their own family. It has also been proven that Nature VS Nuture is really not a thing. 😂

Wicked is about standing up to authority, standing for the truth no matter what and speaking that truth to power and and being subjected to character assassination because of it! It’s also about how people will love you and give you power as long as you go along with the narrative. It’s been my favorite musical since 2004 when I first heard it on CD while working as a singing waitress. It is a work of art.

Have to admit it’s upsetting that all of L Frank Baums work has gotten twisted into this. The books was originally written because his niece Dorothy passed away, and to help with his wife and son’s grief he wrote the wizard of oz so they could hear all about her adventures. People wrote to him, adults and children and he added their stories and characters to the books. Read the books you won’t regret it.

The devil wasn't born to be the devil. He chose to be the devil. Alphaba was born different. It was society that made her wicked. The 2 are not even in the same ballpark. The fact the story is told of a woman, someone with no power or say in her life, is the give away to this truth. With the devil first being one of the most revered beings in known history. Who had every choice of what he wanted for his life. And choosing to create evil. They are sisters in the book. But even before her baby sisters birth alphaba is aware of her difference. And the lack of love for her from her parents. Later exacerbated by the birth of her little sister and evident in her parents sending her away at such a young age. Becoming the embodiment of all the things the society around her hates in themselves. No one would ever choose that. No one. And it's always women subjected to these roles. If anything, the injustice in maleificent is her being called a moor. But she too is made who she became to be. And even still defied their labels to love aurora. The devil has no love in him. Vanquishing it for evil. The only being in all of history to remain unforgivable by the creator. Before his choice, evil did not exist.

💯! There’s foreshadowing in the movie with the talking goat and Elphaba. It speaks volumes with history - real history. Society has to have someone to blame. That spoke volumes. She was already this disliked individual - mainly bc how Galinda treated her. She was the first to gasp and everyone turned around and reacted the same - mob mentality. However Galinda reacted to Elphaba, the crowd was willing participants in her harassment. It’s hard to completely understand that harassment since the choreography was so much fun on screen and it just looks like they are “playing around” but oftentimes bullying can look like that from an adult perspective. Oh, they are just being children. *shrug* There’s layers to this movie which I love.

Overthinking... its a reduction of diversity to identity-by-association, a framing of tribalism as intrinsic and natural as opposed to ideological... and a dismissal of the individual in favor of the group they're associated with presented as an anthem for individuality, so people struggling with identity fixations will relate to the emotional turmoil and be confused by the politics into thinking their identity ought to be a certain way because it's more acceptable as normative which actually just means less diverse. Its a complete fundamental misunderstanding of the human condition.

Why did the 2 leads have to ruin the film for so many? Couldn't they pretend not to be narcissistic for one press tour?
@721rena16 күн бұрын
Narcissists have very little empathy don't cry for others and don't know how to love. I've seen nothing but empathy love respect and tears for others from these two. What you see in others is what you're actually a in yourself cause you're projecting hard. Cause this movie imo saved their careers and only shot them to extraordinary fame cause it truly showcased some of the best talent I've seen in a couple of decades

Alphabau really didn't do anything wrong. She was manipulated and her powers were used against her. Alphabau was outnumbered by people who wanted what she had so they villainized her. Galinda was a trip. And that Chinese lady WOW I could tell from the beginning she was up to no good.

@calebgoodman302821 күн бұрын
What? No not at all. That’s a very wrong take. Honestly how would you like it if you were an affair baby and your father had a whole army and huge political power that he uses to kill you, your BF, beating talking animals in public streets and vilifying you and intimidating everyone to do the same. I mean there were people in the Wizards employ thinking about assaulting Dorothy when they no longer needed her, which Elphaba would’ve been appalled by.
@m.t.44320 күн бұрын
Except her actions aren't forgiven, and she even grapples with the choices she has to make herself in the book. It takes a toll on a person to make decisions that might harm or kill innocent bystanders. Like most people...she is morally Grey. Neutral. It doesn't excuse her actions, but it shows the other side of the story. It's a very interesting read!

I read the book and this EXACTLY why I was dumbfounded by it being made into a musical. I know there’s ’Le Mis’ and the ‘Phantom…’ but this was complicated and emotionally messy and sad; I’ve not seen any of the musical yet but I still struggle to see this as a musical.

We're supposed to stay away from the bad sinful desires and actions because it's wrong. To change to be good. You can live with both. Yes we're human, yes we're going to mess up. But we can't allow wickedness in our lives ! Also the race card was thrown in 😂😂 come on.

@@brookeoke3374You do realize Baum canonized books made after his death right? He only did 14 out of the 40 canon novels. Sure the Wicked series is apocryphal but it’s definitely more consistent writing-wise.

They should do movies about the origins of the cowardly lion, tin man and scarecrow too.
@bluej.studios452314 күн бұрын
They have only showed the first half of the story so far. The movie is based off of the "Wicked" musical from 2003 which was inspired by a book called "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West". I haven't seen the movie, but heard it stopped at the point where the musical would have it's intermission. The second half of the story actually does have stuff for the lion, tin man, and scarecrow. 😁
