I feel like they bloated their range as soon as the "no datasheet, no model" and "model needs a separate datasheet" logic came about. Realistically there are only 7 HQs in the Space Marine range (techmarine, apothacery, ancient, captain, chaplain, librarian and lieuteant) but somehow it comes out to 23 datasheets. In some examples, just a different loadouts comes out to a separate datasheet (lietuant with combi weapon) and most are just armor variants. Now it all concluded in a feeling that "there's it too much" and "alot is still missing" at the same time.

Apothecaries and ancients didn't even have separate datasheets before. I did the maths at one point and in 10 years the range went from 5 non-named SM characters to 23, mainly because of lieutenants and captains with split datasheets

@@greg_mca What I think also strangely happened is that you now almost have "less" options with more datasheets. For example, before it was an upgrade to put a character on bike, in terminator armor (or artificer) or slap a jetpack on them. Them now being separate datasheets and models, oddly enough we lost a bunch of jetpack troops, terminator HQs and especially biker HQs because of it.

@@captaincorundum9788 they are different and always were, but they were explained different. For example (I'm going off the top of my head for this as I don't have the books here) - you could upgrade your captain to wear power armor (which would grant him +1T and a +4 save) for 25 points and would allow the Captain to have some specific gear only available in terminator armor. It was not a separate datasheet with separate abilities - as he was still a space marine captain wearing terminator or regular mark armor.

I bought a load of Reivers and stuck the firstborn jump packs and chainswords on them, along with beaky helmets. They fit the Raven Guard theme much better. Now waiting for a Phobos Apothecary.

Minor chapter specific units to go with their unique characters. Salamanders getting their own tanky flamer and melta infantry. White scars getting unique bikes. Raven guard getting phobos jump pack units. Etc. Heck, each of them getting their own special elite bodyguard units like HH would be badass too.

That is exactly what an upgrade sprue should be. not just 10 shoulder pads and some trinkets. the white scars getting power sabres, motorbike bags, a bird per pack, some addl moulded armour. Wolves getting fur that sticks on top of shoulders, fanged bare heads, and frost weapons. DA getting many robes and swords and knightly helms. Upgrade sprues are so lack lustre.

@@icklemoo I mean its called Warhammer 40000, and the new hover tanks only turn up in M42. thats a thousand years where tracked tanks are all that exists, it seems daft to remove the vehicles that exist at the named date to replace them with vehicles that arrive significantly afterwards. plus the Rhino chassis is so iconic, I feel they should upscale the rhino but make it compatible with the razorback and predator sprues or just re tool those sprues. lump it in as a Rhino/Pred/Razor box for £50 similar to how one knight box makes all the knights. making the rhino true scale wouldn't be the first time it got bigger, it got larger in 3rd edition. let primaris use it, so silly desolators can hop out of a razorback. or assault intercessors can bundle out of a rhino. Also much of the lore has rhinos as the primary method of transportation. would be mad to not be able to buy one.

Hate the grav-tanks. The models aren’t that awful, I suppose - I do own a couple of impulsor-chassis tanks and an executioner - but they just feel a lot more boxy, or generic than the old ones. Like too many angles have been crammed in to make it seem unique and it ends up with a very indistinctive silhouette compared to a Rhino. Plus, of course, the grav-plates are hell to paint.

Tactical marines are dead. Same for dev and assault, etc. First born are dead.. There will be no new release for them. GW cannot trademark the word "tactical" or "assault", maybe devastator but they won't try, GW wants us all to forget first born exist. GW will never release anything for the 40K setting that even calls back to first born. They just released a game where everything first born was either dead or destroyed when we find it or died or was destroyed onscreen. This is like the lore change in Rogue Trader where the Index Astartes became the Codes Astartes, space mainre stopped being prisoner and convicts, Primarchs became demigods and space marines lost all their old models, ranks and names and we NEVER spoke about it ever again. EVER.

I'm saying this as someone who has been in warhammer since the very beginning, from RT days and seen every space marine refresh. This is like my 6th Marine refresh. Dev/assault/tac have no place, have been replaced and aren't coming back. Their replacements sell incredibly well. Intercessors, assault intercessors and Eliminators, etc fly off the shelves. GW made record profits and sales with them. Gravis did not. It did not succeed as the replacement for Terminators so GW changed tack. Just like Phobos which struggles to sell so they refreshed scouts which they tested with the Templar release and everyone wanted it so they refreshed them properly. Gravis failed, if it succeeded they would not have bothered updating termis. Tac/dev/assault are dead and gone brother, you need to let go. It's time.

I’m hoping for a chapter master model. Make highly customizable in terms of wargear. Give it a bunch of different rules depending on play style. Then make it incompatible with the named chapters. Since you can’t exactly say “this is the Dark Angels chapter master” with Azrael standing over there.

So I was actually homebrewing Gravis and Phobos units, and came to the realization that Gravis is functionally the replacement for the Centurion. The Aggressors are VERY similar to Assault Centurions, and it'd be relatively easy to make a devastator-unit analog in a Gravis unit that comes in 3-6 and pack Centurion Devastator weapon options.

And honestly i can understand, their sculpts are older then mammoth feces and they were logically awaiting their turn for an upgrade to come one day, but gw said no, you guys are not even a faction anymore, you will not get any new sculpts for at least next 10 years, or maybe just never at all. Half of the old sculpts goes into legends by the way, and the few that left are now useful in just one detachement of the imperial agents - one of the weirdest codexes out there. Votann and World Eaters will probably get their second release wave in 10th. Deathwatch players will probably have to wait much longer than this, and even then they're no longer a faction, just some units for the imperial agents

I think what I really hate about the SM releases. They began by saying “we’re changing up the faction completely, Fb out, new units in”. But then they realised that just upscaling old units also works and consoomers with consoom so they release them as well. Primaris should have just been upscaled FB but instead we have a massively bloated faction.

They're in a VERY tricky position when it comes to rhinos because of Heresy. They could also just consolidate all the HQ's into their respective data sheets and just have points added for Gravis, Phobos, Terminator armor etc. I don't see a lot of their logic making sense when it comes to the breakdown of data sheets.

The Boarding Actions book shows that teams are not talking to each other (DW vets and Termies are in the Space Marine section despite now not being Astartes keyworded) and the fact that at the time of writing they still haven't put up an FAQ or errata for the Agents book is pretty telling.

My idea is marine marines, specialty troops that have been on the battlefield and back, who have seen their comrades fall right beside them. As a survival instinct, they have scavenged a 2nd set of primaris armour, wearing it over their existing set to make them more hardy in battle.

Two things definitely coming for Primaris space marines are a grav weapons squad and a lascannon squad. GW has already released Primaris units with the other traditional space marine heavy weapons (melta, plasma, autocannon, missile launcher) except for lascannons and grav. Someday, maybe in the more distant future, a neo-volkite squad is also very likely.

Just judging by roles unfulfilled: 1) Lieutenants: Gravis and Terminator. 2) Aviation: Plastic Thunderhawk, Primaris Stormraven and Stormtalon/Stormhawk replacements. 3) Assault Terminators and Primaris Vanguard Vets. 4) Terminator Command Squad Equivalent (Ancient, Champion, Apothecary). 5) Gravis HQ and characters: Librarian, Chaplain, Ancient etc. 6) Multipart Bikers. 7) Multipart Suppressors. Devastator squad will probably be cast into the oblivion, because why sell on Multipart set when they can sell plasma dudes, flamer dudes, rocket dudes, melta dudes etc. Tinker with balance and you'll reach a nice rotation of all of them. Tacticals IMHO are absolutely redundant by now. Won't be surprised if they even rename generic Intercessors into Tactical Squad. I mean, they did rename CSM squad into Legionare squad. The best thing to happen to tactical squad concept - additional sprue with one heavy and one special weapon in the new intercessors boxes.

The thing about space marines, is their pretty universal appeal. Even if they're not someone's absolute favourite faction, most people still like them enough to want to collect an army of them. And GW make it so easy compared to almost any other faction.

As a returning Space Wolf player, I don't feel positive about the future. If GW is phasing out Firstborn units doesn't that mean that Blood Claws, Grey Hunters and Long Fangs are on the way out? If so, then that would kind of gut the soul of the faction.

I reckon the infantry is safe though, because black templars got all of theirs, and even though they're updated the blood angels still have their infantry. Melee gravis is aggressors, and heavy weapons gravis are eradicators. That being said, we're definitely getting heavy plasma gravis because that exists in Space marine II.

For Devastators, I imagine they'll be kept around until we get, Lascannon, Heavy Bolter and Grav Cannon Primaris equivalents. They're the last 3 Heavy Weapons that Primaris currently lack, and once they're all in the game the Devastators will be taken outback with the other Firstborn marines and shot.

Plastic Acanthrites, Plastic Seraptek Construct, Plastic Trazyn, Plastic C’tan’s. new technomandrite cryptek type (gotta catch em all), bring back the legends necron hqs (anrakyr, obyron, zanhdrekh etc.), give us female necron overlord with big resurrection orbs, new lokhust sculpt. Reduce prices: flayed ones, ophydian, wraiths etc. I could go on BUT this is a good sized list of things I think the “Space Marine” release pipeline should receive

Just do the firstborn kits that are left in Primaris scale and give them the same weapon options, so the old kits can still be used by firstborn players. It might even add a bit of goodwill back to GW from the community.

Great video! I feel like it's time for Games Workshop to introduce Carcharadons as an actual divergent chapter with miniatures. They have a supremely badass chapter master, really cool lore, are easy to paint, and everyone loves sharks! Think of all those baby shark kids coming of age, lol. They could even have Tyberos find and rescue Leman Russ from the Warp for extra win.

The Rhino variants should be dedicated to the CSM legions with updated models. I think GW is doing the 1st/2nd wave with the major chapters. Its just too obvious with the DA and even the BA still have a few models left. The SW for sure will have 2 waves considering the size of their range, unless the rumors of Russ returning intitiates a full range refresh. It does seem GW is focused on one particular sector of each chapter that being the Deathwing and the Sanguinary sphere. I imagine the Wolf Guard will be the main focus for SW unless they switch it up and focus on the calvary and wolves. It could reflect different battle styles, the DA with bulky melee, the BA with fast flyers and the SW with calvary.

As a Space MArine player, I do love the variety, however I do rather wish that GW would concentrate on making the weaker of the existing units fun to play and actually useable, not just dilute them with points drops, while increasing points on good units. SM are meant to be elite, not hoardy.

I expect there will eventually be a Primaris-style update of every single unit in the current roster. For my Dark Angels, I expect a Ravenwing Assault box to come sometime in 11th in the same styling of the Deathwing Assault box. I think we will get a plastic Sammael mini along with a new Ezekiel. They might suprise us and maybe give Sam a new Landspeeder over his bike as the 'Last hoverbike in the Imperium" line for Corvus hasn't been true for a while now. I'd like to see them do something different with Ezekiel and put him in terminator armor or something. Or better yet, give us Sapphon and/or Turmiel and put THEM in terminator armor. I also think that we will one day see the Lion reinstate the Dreadwing in 40k. GW would be crazy not to go there with the DAs; a whole new line of war crime minis with obscene weaponry would sell very well. A Zabriel mini would be perfect for that line.

Flexibility of tactical squads is still wild in 10th edition. A heavy weapon a special weapon, and the sgt gets either another special weapon/combi weapon.

They should introduce some sort of "Rhino Mk. " - tracked and slightly bigger in proportions, fit for Primaris Marines but without those gravity pads. Maybe more armoured or something? Also - I would love to see Salamanders/Iron Hands/Imperial Fists/White Scars getting BA/SW/BT treatment at some point. Basicly seperating all of the Marine chapters from each other.

A few things that we'll certainly get, like Assault Terminators, aside, my wish list would probably have the following: "Devastator" Lascannon Squad - Much as we have Devastators with plasma cannons, Devastators with MultiMeltas, Devastators with Missile Launchers, and even (a very weird) Devastators with Autocannons, we're short a "Devastator" unit with Lascannons for serious antitank work. "Devastator" Heavy Bolter squad - We kiiiiinda have it with Heavy Intercessors but not quite. These two units would complete the Devastator Saga and allow the old boys to retire. "Tactical" Intercessors - Realizing that they need more diversity in arms, let the basic Intercessor squad take over the Tactical option and get some diversity in there. One in ten get a special, one in ten get a special or heavy. "Rhino 2" ... the current transports are akin to a Razorback or a Land Raider, but the classic Rhino needs love. Give us a barely-armed hover transport with a capacity of 11 or 12 models. Assault Bikers - A Second biker unit, which would work as a Dark Angel second release, be great for Space Wolf players, and give White Scars some more love ... give 'em chainswords and lances, sarge can take a power weapon or power fist, and let fly the melee. Biker Lt to go with said Assault Bikers. "Hover Whirlwind" and "Hover Vindicator". There's more, but those are the easy ones.

I think Gravis is going to get refreshed. Now that we have new terminators, there's less need for them as an inbetween for terminators and centurions that GW couldn't quite decide on. The other thing is that in Space Marine gravis looks significantly slimmer than it does compared to the miniatures. Considering we saw things like updated tyranids and jump pack intercessors before the miniatures were released in space marine 2's promotional materials, this could be a similar case. I also see gravis going more towards being the heavy gunner armour rather than close combat, probably to make a clearer difference between it and terminators.

Hopefully something that really increases their win rate, I think an overpowered command squad - that the divergent chapters don't get access to. Pumps out a 12" oaths of moment - buffs nearby infantry

If GW ever decides to do a Badab War or a Great Scouring themed release (which would reuse all the plastic HH kits) then I could see the the old tracked rhino chassis returning, along with a new scaled up sculpt for the MK7 aquilla armour.
