Like all loyal Imperial Guard commanders I measure any potential investment in terms of LRV, or Leman Russ Value. In order to be considered a potential purchase must at least equal or preferably exceed the concomitant number of Leman Russ tanks purchasable with the same amount of money. With a Leman Russ in Canada currently costing $68, the Hivestorm box almost exactly correlates to 4 Leman Russ tanks ($68 x 4$ = $274 before tax). My personal value of the admittedly cool Scions equals one Leman Russ, the interesting new Vespids constitute only half a Russ, and the terrain also a half. Thus, the LRV of 2:1 renders this purchase unessential. I will instead purchase four new Leman Russ tanks.

I've got about 10,000 points of printed Nids and Death Guard. Mostly since the start of 10th. I've saved thousands of dollars. You can get started for about 500 dollars and that is including what you need to print in a closet in your home SAFELY. All you need is a printer, some resin and a charcoal air filter with a duct fan. the charcoal filter will recycle the air into the same enclosed space making it totally safe to print in a small closet or spare bedroom.

No this evaluation is apples and pears but can forgiven as your listerning to a hardcore 40k channel. Kill team is a stand alone game. You buy it to play killteam. That is especially true for hivestorm. Its a game in a box. Granted other boxs package just models or terrain that might be wanted by 40k players. Where are your rules for using anything from kill team for 40k. Sure eventually there will be some. In two years mostly like. After all that when GW said it would retire the current teams but they could used in 40k. Really no point in a 40k player buying hivestorm.

@tinkertoiler744 I get what you're saying. My logic is that the value of what's in the box doesn't match. Both boxes came with a core rule book. Terrain is the most easily substituted product that GW sells so its value is truly equal to what Terrain of equal size and shape that can be found elsewhere is so the most valuable items are the copyrighted models being sold as those need to be recognized in order to be used in a game.

I think that while i love games workshop miniatures - (i started my love of these miniatures with space crusade) these prices have convinced me that the time has finally come to step back and say, "thats enough". Its time to stop. I have plenty of miniatures, i can get great scenery and vehicles 3d printed off eBay. I can play one page rules. I dont need games workshop - i am not bitter or anything, its just that im being priced out of the hobby.

I feel the same. I only collect for 40k now, having stopped buying for Kill Team, Bloodbowl and AoS. If I want units I look for good deals on eBay now either for unpainted models or NoS kits. With the BA box coming out recently for example I got a brutalis dreadnought and jump pack squad for £53 combined with seller discount added for multiple purchases. Even 3rd party retailer prices are becoming too expensive for me to justify.

I lost words for Hivestorm price. Beside the 2 squads, terrain pcs are nice but def not 100$ nice, overpriced kill team gears and supplies will be redundant for most current players (and don't I think many "new" players would jump into the format with a 230$ price tag), the 60$ core book with expiry date and surefire to get pages of manage-your-own-printouts after few weeks... And the saddest part? It's gonna sell anyway 😂

My FLGS got two copies of the Blood Angels box. TWO. Normally they get 10+ of releases… rather than pay GW’s stupid prices I ordered the aliens board game and it’s expansions and got a bunch of marines and xenomorphs and a complete game system for less than the price of the BA box

I was going to initially get it but then I had a thought. I run a tau army and an imperial guard army. I very much want the to kill teams, however I can get similar if not even better quality terrain for much cheaper. The rules can be found online for free and/or found on the high seas. On top of that I don't even know if the imperial guard team will be able to be integrated into an existing army. I'll be waiting for the individual releases and even then if they're too expensive I might just three print something

There will likely eventually be a starter box for KT 2024 tahat contains most of the contents minus terrain (and hivestorm dossier) for much cheaper, like current starter with krieg and commandos That might be a better buy for your purposes than Hivestorm

I mean for me I've already ordered the boxset via a local hobby store. I'm a big fan of the Guard and I've been wanting some cool terrain to use with my buddy when we play 40K. Having the updated rules for Kill Team is also cool for when/if we get into that. The only thing I don't really want is the Vespids but there's this little kid wanting to get into Tau who comes with his dad to our combat patrol league so I plan to gift it to him. All that being said, I do think the price is a bit rich and in general while I have been on a real collection spree lately, I'm probably going to slow down after I get this box and focus on painting all my models. I've also made sure to order two other Kill Teams before they get new boxes and prices, so I think I've come out alright.

Just last year i bought the Osgiliath box for Middle Earth for about the same price as Hivestorm. I think it was $200 USD after 10% discount. It had four ruins about the same size as the ones in Hivestorm, a hardcover rulebook ,ruler, dice and 72 models. Granted Hivestorm models are nicer but it still seems like a big price hike over last March.

For pretty much the same price I got Skaventide which came with admittedly smaller terrain but also 1200 points of Stormcast and 1300~ points of skaven, along with a game board for spearhead, a rulebook for spearhead and another for the core rules. Also measuring sticks, and the cards for the generals handbook (basically a mission deck for 40k i believe)

I was not only hyped to get Hivestorm, but also to finally starting playing KT with that new edition... Then they revealed the price and I was like "naaaaah, I'm good". 2 units that should be worth 60 bucks, bunch of papers that are literally worthless and some very overpriced terrain that GW apparently think we hould pay 110 to get. That coupled with their hilarious price increase to all the other "teams" which often means the very basic units these teams are in 40k are now totally unaffordable, greatly diminished my hype. Then they revealed their cancerous forced rotations of the teams and then I was completely out. I'm good GW. You did it. You made me completely drop one of their game just on the price alone. I'm not going to spend the price of 4 brand new AAA videogame on 2 10man units and a bunch of terrain. I could. Let's look at real value. 2 kills teams at 80 USD each. This or close to this is what they will sell for when they launch them. I've seen other people say 125 for Terrain, which is insane. Sorry but it is. that terrain is not worth 125. Make your own or get 3rd party. Splitting the terrain is hard. Rule book 60 dollars, can't split it and do you need this? rules are free right? I get some people want to have a hard card, fine. but they rules will change and it's not hard back, so poor book. Some other book, no idea but I think data sheets are in it which will change and it's worth anything in my opinion. also soft back. card board tokens, 1 dollar these aren't worth anything. sorry. The ink costs more than the cardboard it's printed on. dice - not very good dice. you'll have some likely and if not then I guess there is some small value here but you'll replace them. ladders, wall and so on. 45 dollars is insane for that. AND you can't split it. you need 2 ladders each and you only get 2. so the value is WAY off. Cards, GW charges 25 dollars for these? 15? Not sure but that card stock is crap. Magic cards are printed on better card stock. Most of the items in the kit are way over priced. But you'll see people telling you that you'll save 54% off!!! wow. awesome. But those are inflated prices. If a company can bundle things together and give you 54% savings just think about what they are really worth... shop around, get the best discount you can get, split it with someone if you can - somehow, it's a poor split honestly. Don't pay full price.

Really hoping Tyranids get a warriors and/or Raveners kill team, because if im gonna get fucked on the price for them I may as well at least get a full squad, not 3. The Fact GW prices aren't based on the amount of plastic in the box, the size of the box, the age and complexity of the sculpts, or the number/size of models in the box but rather the unit role and points in game has vexed me for close to 20 years at this point. It is a constant reminder that the price rises are not driven by a business need, but by what they think they can get away with for a given unit.

Yeah, the amount of plastic thing amazes me. 10 assault intercessors on foot is 2 identical sprues of 5 dudes, and the assault intercessors on jump packs is a single sprue of five guys, and they're basically the same price. Found that really disappointing when I got my Blood Angels FOMO Rage set. It's becoming less and less that they're not even just pricing me out with price "adjustments" every 6 months but with their contempt to customers the way they design those kits and package and sell them.

@@craggylotus Trouble is, its not really contempt. GW knows what its selling, It knows how slowly its customers assemble and paint. And it knows is customers are here for the IP and the lore behind it. Every customer is ultimately willing to spend so much a month or a season on new minis, because its what their budget allows. Lowering the price wont lead to more sales in the long term, because at some point your going to stop and focus that pile of shame before you buy more. Their publicly owned and traded, the CEO isn't just greedy, its his job to be greedy, to make as much as possible for as little as possible and if he wasn't they would replace him. The only way GW operates in a way that isn't anti consumer, is if the UK & US re-write copyright laws in such a way as to allow competitors fair use of the IP. ...ya know, the sort of thing GW use to advocate for back when the Tolkien estate sent them Cease and Desist letters because they were infringing on the LotR IP, and dune, and Moorcock, and Conan, and 2000AD, and the hundred other property's they borrowed from to make their beautiful warhammer cocktail. I really wish they'd be up front about whether there will be a starter set for the new edition. If there's a box for half the price but without the terrain I'd be much more tempted. L shaped ruins are hardly the most exciting option even if they are nicely detailed.

I still don't totally get the appeal of the Hernkyn Yaegers. I'm sure they could be a useful unit, and Votann will probably always like more choices, but if I were going to grab a Votann unit that isn't available yet, I'd prefer to follow in the footsteps of the upcoming Scions, and Vespids, and get the cool Votann with Jump Packs; if Votann suffer somewhere, I feel it tends to be mobility, so far-roving jump troops, hopefully with at least decent firepower, would seem better than scouting infiltrators. That's me, though, and nothing says the new Acquillons will be legit jump packs, since carapace armor is sort of light protection for flame-gouting thrusters.

At this point I just decided to get anything I can get my hands on for the GW's games and factions I'm interested in while the prices are still somewhat manageable. The Hivestorm box is really pushing it and the rereleased KTs prices are madness. Looks like GW put their bet on scalpers, whales and resellers rather than actual players.

That's exactly what GW is pushing and more people to do, totally forgoing WYSIWYG and relying on "count as" models. And this is a massive slippery slope that will 100% destroy their business in the long run. From "I don't need to use that exact GW model, I can just use another GW model" to "I dont need to use GW models, I can just use other models" the step is very small, and once people took it, it will be very hard to make them come back.

Being interested in Killteam but having absolutely zero Killteam items, I feel like I'm one of relatively few people who this box is a really good value for. I would be getting it, if I had enough space in my flat for more boxes.

Not many in my group of players are going to buy the boxset. It's just too expensive. And the cost of getting a new team has gone up significantly : now you need a team which can be up to £50, plus a set of cards and (at least initially) an equipment set to get going. Not cool.

I would buy Hivestorm, if not for the fact that I already have the two smaller buildings. I think I'll just wait for GW to release the new starter set. Assuming it will look like the current one, it will have all the rubble terrain pieces, tokens, measures, the equipment bits and the two teams.

Yeah, I have heard to theory that GW thinks Killteam is worth more money than it is. 40k players buying killteam models to use in 40k makes GW think people are willing to spend a fortune on a box like this, and I think they're about to be disappointed. ALL I've heard about this box is that it's badly overpriced.

While the terrain looks good I'm not a fan of the large plastic scenery. It's a pain to store and I don't have the space. I really like the cardboard popup terrain made by some companies as it's so much easier to store. I kind of wish GW would make that instead as it'd definitely be cheaper.
