I've started with T'au and haven't had too hard a time with it yet. We got good Combat Patrols and a decent secondhand market for crisis suits if you're willing to repose and magnetize. And you don't have to worry as much about your Fight phase so it's one less thing to think about.

Same! T'au mechs were a good starting point to learn the basics for me without getting bogged down in micromanaging each phase. But then Kroot have filled in that role with all their updates so its been nice to slowly extend my playstyle, and learn as I go!

I've gotten into 40k recently and now with the hype of space marine 2 a few of my friends are following suit. They don't want to spend the money for a combat patrol. So my advice has been: pick a faction you like; buy a cheap box that looks good; get the fewest paints and brushes you need; don't get any more mini's until you finish the one's in that box. They seem to prefer that over planning an army or buying a combat patrol.

I hope they will get the Black Templar treatment but with the development lateley I expect the Coteaz treatment😂

@crayvenАй бұрын
@@user-bz7hz4jl1t the idea is not mine I just tweaked it a little bit, but you can find a lot of people tha were doing it if you search for how to scale up grey knights. They will look lean compared to primaris, especially if you scale up termis, but on the otherhand GKs always looked less bulky. For your other question Im just a random person so my thoughts won't matter much, but I don't think GK will be smashed into Agents of Imperium. The reason for why is, GK were already part of it in 2003 but yuu could play GK solo, thats how I started. A lot of people played that way, then the first GK codex came replacing demonhunters. Since then they got every new edition a codex. Deathwatch on the other hand never had a Codex until 2016/2017 they also were a simple one or two page pdf with some datasheets and they were basically a devestator squad that could walk and shoot their heavy bolters with, 2 shots instead of 3.

I bought an introductory kit with Space Marines and Tyranids to get into things. Then I started reading and fell in love with the lore around the Custodes. And the fact how cool they look but damn it’s more fun to paint Space Marines. Mostly because it’s really hard with contrasts on the Custodes for someone as new as me.
@icklemooАй бұрын
I think custodes is the best starter army to learn the game with ..and not invest heavily money wise initially ... incase the game itself is not really for you and you not wasted hours and hours or stacks of cash on a more complex army .. Problem with knights is simply that in some local gaming , they can be abit oppressive into fellow news players / or starter armies ... so I am not sure knights are really a good choice for a first army but certainly a 2nd/3rd army imo ..

@Suspicious_fish.Ай бұрын
I've said it before and I'll say it again, necrons are the most accessible faction to play. You have less equipment diversity ( 9 troops with weapons a&b, a sergeant with weapons c&d, and an character with XYZ). I had a really rough time re-entering the hobby when I played my og blood angles. But it was much easier to grasp my armys abilities with Necrons. But also.... Always go with the rule of cool for picking what to play

@@keyanklupacs6333 💯 agree , I feel like they teach you the most basic of basics( thin your paint & learn how to paint something small). As much as I love them, the best painted Necron is usually an average Tuesday level for a space/chaos marine

Just gonna add a bit of commentary to Grey Knights, though Auspex Tactics covered them pretty well: they are hard to do *good* with, but not hard to play period. They aren't like 1K Sons or even Sisters or Aeldari where you have a separate resource to track. The movement shenanigans are hard to make the most out of, but not hard to understand and just use. Honestly, the biggest reason this is a "hard" army is that the second you put something that needs anti-tank, aside from Dreadknights or Dreadnoughts, we just have 0 ways to deal with it.

Make notes on your paint schemes/equipment choices so you don’t forget. Play with friends that don’t mind when you put unfinished models or proxies on the board. Pick the models you like over the units you think are meta, because what’s good will change. No one should care in a friendly game if you run your DKoK as Cadians or vice versa as long as you make it clear. Set a pace; it’s a marathon army, not a sprint!!

I'm torn between 3 factions to get into Warhammer 40k. Space marines are generic but I do find them cool and are known for being a good army to start. Necrons are another faction that grabs my attention in a cool factor. And custodes who I like bc their cheap (relatively) and I do find them cool but not #1, but they have a very low model range which I don't like I wish I had some more options or more plastic units and not just forge models which aren't given much attention and might go away(legends).

for Necrons they are easy and fun to play BUT they can be a pain to build, so if you are new to building models i would not suggest Necrons, there are a lot of small and spindly bits. Play Tyranids as a main and they are easy to build and play, though a little more to remember with Synapse. SM is easy to build and play so a very good starter army. Custodes also easy to build and you don't need many models. Knights might seem daunting to build with such large models, but big models mean big pieces and is fairly easy to build and you don't need to build many of them.

I really like Tyranids for a new player army, no it isn’t the easiest to paint by volume like Knights or Custodes or GK are, but you can play virtually any "style" you want with them, want to learn how to play a horde army? Got it, monster-mash? No problem, want a rush/jail list? They have something for you, want to learn how to castle up? There's a style for that too, you've even got limited access to indirect fire, I don’t think there's any real mechanic you can't tinker with in the range, or a common play style you can't learn to play with them.

@morten3138Ай бұрын
Death Guard's strength is using melee units against enemy infantry. Use the -1 save contagion generally. With it, DG can be one of the deadliest armies in the game. You just need to get close to the enemy. Generally DG is supposed to be slow and durable. But with the current rules they're just slow. Use Rhinos and Deep Strike to give your infantry movement. Because of the low speed you to be very careful about positioning, and learn to manipulate melee movement mechanics. Also they're pretty bad at dealing with bigger units like tanks at the moment. Usually people run 3 Chaos Knight - War Dogs to offset this. Mostly the ranged version (War Dog Brigand), which is excellent anti-tank if you get them within 12" of the enemy. Some also like the melee version (War Dog Karnivore). Magnetize the weapons on each War Dog, that way to can easily swap them if you want. Also check out the DG focused Disgustingly Resilient Podcast on YT. Run by one of the best DG players in the world.

@bhizzle64Ай бұрын
As a new player getting into daemons I can agree with a good chunk of this. however they do come with a caveat that their combat patrol is *very* slanted, being exclusively composed of khorne units. This means there’s a notable price difference between going mostly khorne (which does tend to be a bit one note as an army) and going for any of the other gods/undivided. This is particularly true for tzeentch where the basic battle line infantry (pink horrors) requires you to buy a full on second box of blue horrors in order to field properly. There also some slight worries that daemons as an army are going to be majorly reworked and split to be merged into the various god legions at some point in the future. Though with that said I don’t think the evidence points that that happening anytime soon.

I'm sorry, but you could not have been more incorrect with Space Marines. This advice makes it clear you have not played Space Marines in 10th edition. They are currently a horrible army to start with. They have a lot of clunky rules that don't make sense in 10th edition meta and are massively underpowered. Any new player trying to figure out 40k with a Space Marines army is just going to be frustrated and unable to see how to make their army good (because they can't). And currently Space Marines are an extremely unforgiving army to play. As well, they are not all-rounders, they are no-rounders. They are a codex of specialized units that largely fail to do what they are specialized for.

Have you considered that the top levels of play affects like less than 5% of all players. Even if someone runs say that crazy chaos cult list of 40k dirtbags players aren't necessarily going to know how to pilot it. Your local meta is going to matter way way more. Also wtf do you mean clunky sm strats and function pretty seamlessly barring anvilguard being heavy dependant and veteran company (the once a game precodex oath of moment.) While not currently at high win rate stormlance, galdius, ironstorm, vanguard and firestorm all are extremely functional and straight forward (stormlance has some weird mounted keyword stuff but its easily like a b+).

@@keyanklupacs6333 Space Marines are noticeably weaker than the vast majority of armies even in low level play. They excel at nothing and are outclasses by most other armies even at things those other armies aren't supposed to be particularly good at. And most of the Space Marine abilities are clunky in that they either buff a unit in a way that is irrelevant, or aren't useful given how the current edition is played. Not how my local meta is played, but how the game is fundamentally designed to be played. I can quite easily pick up any non-Space Marine army and spend 15 minutes to learn it well enough to beat even veteran Space Marine players. I know this because I have done it several times. Space Marines aren't even fun to play right now, because most other armies get objectively better versions of your units, and usually for much cheaper. It was an already under powered army that got straight nerfed for the last 3 updates. Steering new players there is just bad.

I'd argue 2 things against this: 1: Don't buy Armies based on how powerful they are, because the points and rules will change, and a bottom of the barrel Army will be a top-tier Army a year later (and vice versa). Pick the Army whose flavor, lore, and aesthetics you like. 2: Army competitiveness is pretty much meaningless when you're first starting out unless you're really intending to go at this hardcore. Where I will agree with Auspex on why they're bad is that their range is absurdly bloated right now, which can be incredibly overwhelming for new players, especially considering that it's basically just "slightly different dude in power armor".

@@GCarssow 1. Normally I would agree, but when an army is so week that it's just not going to win unless you get extremely lucky or your opponent makes significant mistakes is not a good way to get people into the hobby. 2. I don't know why people are acting like the deficiencies of the Space Marine codex are easier to manage when you are less skilled when the situation is the reverse. A less skilled player will obviously have more trouble with a weak and extremely unforgiving army.
