His solo on Lionel Richie - Running with the night. That solo was just him warming up and improvising for his proper take only to realize it was recorded and the producer decided its good enough haha. Keep these videos coming, any content with revv and shawn in it makes my day !

was about to mention the same. I accidentally stumbled upon it while I was checkin my old mans vinyl collection back in the early nineties and I heard that song on a best of compilation from Lionel and I was immediately sure that it was Steve that I was listening to. still to this day my favorite solo from the meister.

Late to the party… but Los Lobotomys’ “Candyman” (in some regions loged as a Lukather release) has some of my favourite Luke playing and tones ever. “Song for Jeff” in particular is simply soooo moving… I caught an “Ohne Filter” recording of Los Lobotomys late one night in the ‘90s on German TV and that’s what really got me into Luke… and saw me lusting after a Musicman, but that’s a different story alltogether.

About 10 years ago I purchased a Steve Lukather Family Reserve Signature Earnie Ball Luke. Steve has been one of my long time inspirations. I have all of his single albums. On one of his early releases, Ever Changing Times has a song titled "Never Ending Nights". Incredible solo on that song as well as incredible drumming by Abe Loboriel. For me Steve's most inspiring are his ballad solos. Certainly many of those with Toto. So much versatility! Any player that can hang with greats like Larry Carlton better know his stuff and of course Steve does.

There is a live video of Luke playing Cause We've Ended As Lovers with Lee Ritenour and his solo is mind-blowing. Technique galore, but even more flowing with fire and soul. One of my top Luke solos.

Shawn, you don’t “rip off”…. You cordially borrow!😉. Fantastic playing on this one! Steve Lukather did an amazing solo way back; Break Down Dead Ahead with Boz Scaggs. His presence his undeniable. Crank it , put your head back and close your eyes. He stands out. You can hear his “TOTO” in there. That unique style and tone he administers. Damn love his work on that!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

in lukes starlicks video he mentioned that it was composed. still genius. the outro solo tho is completely improvised and mind-blowing. he was using his 59 burst and a fender deluxe. that sound we have to thank Quincy jones for. he told Luke in the studio whilst recording thriller that his Marshalls sound too big. the deluxe and the burst are Lukes major signature tones from that era and I just love it. same as you Shawn, his playing is very unmistakable and unique.

Great, great video, and to my ears you nailed that solo dead on! While that middle solo of Rosanna is beautiful, it was the outro solo that really caught my ear first time I heard it, all those years ago! I think it may have been the first time I heard that sort of jazzy, outside playing in a rock tune. I know there are plenty of KZbin lessons on that solo as well, but I would love to get your take on it, maybe in a Part 2 to this video?
@ShawnTubbs2 жыл бұрын

Great video Shawn. Steve Lukather has been my idol for many years. Asides from Steve's incredible work with Toto, my favourite guitar solo from Steve other than Toto is featured on Lionel Richie's "Running with The Night". And there are numerous other great solos from Steve. However, the outdo solo on Rosanna is f......... killer. Thanks again for doing this Shawn. Steve Lukather has definitely inspired so many guitar players of my generation. Cheers.

Hi Shawn, Boz Scaggs Middle Man album, Breakdown Dead Ahead, also the outro solo on the track Angel You, Classic Lukey. Donna Summer's She works hard for the money, a bit of a cleaner tone on that track. Lionel Richie's Running with the Night, Lukey wanted to rerecord the solo's on that track because he said they were just run throughs, but Lionel said no Steve just leave them, they sound great. Joe Cocker's Civilized Man album, title track another killer solo.

Man SHAWN so so close, I LOVE how you talked about his underrated / somewhat unknown track by the tubes which Steve did but you really missed the best one- you were around in this time well before me but the best underrated/ unknown Lukather Solo that myself and many other fans would probably love to see was one he Also did for the tubes on a song from *1981's Gonna get it next time* ^ So groovy, so heavy, so 80s with the guitar , the drums in the pocket, synth in the backgrounds and in a very underrated unknown track in the ( ive said those 2 words too many times! ) Chevy chase's 1981 comedy *Modern problems* ^ No good covers, attempts renditions etc on KZbin. It would be so damn cool to see you make a part 2 right here and cover the track he did for the tubes, sounds like Drop D or d standard. Haunting intro solo melody, killer grooving riff with the bass and synth and very toto like synth bridge because it still had the procarros on the track as well! ^ Just an underrated gem my favourites 1980 unknown song that was done for a movie that ended up being forgettable and as a result this song did not really get out there. It sounds like TOTO/ foreigner / tubes mashed with Pink floyd with the vibe synth fade out in the outer especially.. Please give this a listen and hopefully if ever possible a lesson on it to follow up! Hearing you play the intro solo, the main riff, and the main solo outro solo to me is lukather in a nutshell you just know it's him doing his thing on a track in probably very little time one day in the studio to be made for a movie. Here's the song/ link bellow Cheers from Niagara falls Canada Shawn and REVV 🙏🏻🤟🏻 - Adam Link : kzbin.info/www/bejne/boqmeWd9ia6LZ6s
