The max points in PoE2 are 122 at level 100. (Not a realistic goal for most people in PoE1, expect the same from PoE2) Starting area has a few nodes that differ from the other class with the same start location. (Players really don't like the idea of missing out, when only half the node applies to the build) There is a search feature on the PoE1 tree. No reason why it would not be in PoE2. In PoE1 it was called: "the tree of life" by some. Because you had to have a lot of % life. So players went from % life note clusters to % life note clusters. Now there are 3(?)notes that give % life. Making it easier to get stuff you want/need for your build because you don't need to spend 20 to 40 notes on life and travel to life making the tree more dense and yet have more nodes. Other not tree related things: Expect a server overload on day one. (there is more interest then GGG thought they would have) Pick what you like, what brings you joy. (go full on GET GUD NOOB at least once, just don't start there, it will give you another perspective on the game) Ask for help, most streamers in the PoE community have a people in their discord/chat that will help you, just ask. one more tree related thing: if you read all of this, you will be fine.

One important addition regarding starting areas. Jonathan said in one of the many recent interviews that the notable/non stat nodes of the other starting areas change depending on your character choice. So as an example, if you chose Ranger and go towards Mercenary there will be nodes useful to you and not the nodes the mercenary himself has available. Edit: It was also said that you have 122 (or 123 not exactly sure) passive points in total. It's very important to note though that this requires you to be level 100 and having done all the optional quests. This will take a very long time, if even reachable at all for some players. So it's best to plan your builds with something like 70 points which should be achievable in a reasonable amount of time.

Quick question that i seems to not understand: "Skills are bound to weapons", does this mean that i need to swap weapons to use skills from oter clases? For example, lets say i play monk and want to use ice meteor from sorc, i have to equip sorc weapon to use it?

Not necessarily, some skills have weapon requirements such as slams (you need a mace) for example. Spells don't have weapon requirements , so you can wield whatever you want, but keep on mind that stats on weapons could be different from type to type.

@milosradojcic9736 ohh okay, so it is on a skill-to-skill basis. When you say "weapon stats" I guess you mean damage modifiers, correct?, as if, bow may not give "frost" damage to justify a "frost" skill, etc.?

generally speaking spell skills wont be weapon specific, its mostly weapon attack skills that will be tied. however, sorceress weapons like staff and wand will have the most relevant mods to power up spells. If you had used another example, like the monk mostly uses quarterstaff, but if you want to stick to that, but then also use cluster grenade once in a while, then you would have to choose a crossbow for your second weapon. If you are whacking away with your stick, every time you press the cluster grenade button, your monk will quickly swap to the crossbow to shoot the grenades, and the crossbow linked passives on the tree will activate. Then you use a quarterstaff skill, and he will put the crossbow away quickly, switching your tree back to using the quarterstaff passives automatically. For spells like meteor that do not require a weapon, you can choose whether you want that skill to be castable with either weapon or if you want to limit it to one of them. For example, maybe you specialized your quarterstaff passives into ice damage, in which case you would want your monk to automatically swap to that weapon whenever you use ice meteor.

How do you unlock one of the first nodes on the opposite side of the skill tree

It's not really that intimidating when you realize that most clusters of minor nodes around a Notable is just theme around that Notable, and that whole cluster is just 1 skill spread out to smaller nodes. In a sense it's no different than other RPG game with skill tree picking 15-20 major skills, but spread out from level 1-100.

"to respec any node of choosing, you just simply spend some gold....." And that right there is the part that everyone is glossing over. How much gold will each node be to undo? If I bricked my build against a boss on the Atlas and can't go further and have to respec 20 choices to get past him, how much is that costing me every time my build gets me stuck against a different boss? Why is everyone just totally ignoring this point?

It sounds like ggg doesn’t understand why people got intimidated by the skill tree. It’s because of the size itself… not how it works… you have 1500 nodes means player has to read 1500 of them… Poe’s skill tree is not as complicated as it seems, but the point is the tree has so many things there, it’s simply overwhelming to even read 1500 of them, or like 200 clusters, you still need to read 200 clusters to know what they are. And it’s actually the smallest problem of poe’s unnecessary complexity.

The complications of PoE1 passive tree have been vastly exaggerated. You could argue that I've accumulated a lot of IRL exp from playing all this time, but I've never fully followed a guide. I've winged it every time, and have been able to do most of the content.

Yea I just made a new character the other day intending to use a build but instead totally blind winged it, never made that character before no idea what I was doing, couple of hand me down gear items but basically from scratch and blind. In 4 days I reach lvl 75, found best weapon I ever found, highest dps iv ever attained, beat the campaign, and became otherwise unkillable. My advise to new players is just have fun, it's really not that complicated. However, there are some builds that are pretty crazy and perhaps for those a guide would be nice but you can still figure it out.
