Thinking out loud about respeccing : Why not have respec books for sale at a set value on a vendor? 25K gold for a full respec, reguardless of lvl and amount of points sounds pretty solid.

Yeah, I think they should do that. I don't really see the downside of it, really. Maybe only let you buy one a month or something if they are concerned about people getting a ton of them. They should give you one at the end of act 3 and act 6 for sure.

It could be a rare boss drop too, so something like in Diablo 2. Maybe both, so you can always spend money if you don't want to farm for it. 25k sounds a bit low for endgame, maybe make it 1k per level, so 25k at level 25 and 100k at level 100.

Respec costs are so archaic; they do not create interesting decisions but stymie exploration. Free respecs will incentivize me to play more as I get interesting gear drops to build around.

Yeah, You said it the best. Plan your build. One main damage type and one main defense. One or two secondary damage types and one secondary defense. Then tie that package up with combos/synergies with your abilities and gems/jewels and all that good stuff :)

I don't know if the honor changes will be enough. I beat it at 26 with my warrior, but that was with a buff bought from a merchant that halved the honor loss for the final boss. Meaning I was better off than I would be post patch, since I was taking 50% less at all ranges. Also a 2h warrior, so high damage. Even with that, I lost over 500 honor in that fight, ending with just over 200. And that was with being careful with the nodes I picked, aiming to just pass the stupid thing, not taking fights along the way. Of course, if I'd waited until I could dual wield 2h weapons, it'd have been faster, but my latest Sorceress just breezed through it. There's no parity there. Certain melees are meant to take hits, especially ones built around armor. And the entire honor system is just a big middle finger to that. As far as power level goes, it isn't just about content creators, but players. On the extreme, you have the "if it isn't the best, it is trash" crowd, a rather toxic lot. But even without taking it to the extreme, it matters. Like take Sorceress currently. Spark will dominate builds, for a variety of reasons (constant damage out there, clears around corners, and so on). This will make most other builds feel non-viable, because they won't be able to compete with either the speed or the safety. So something will likely need to be done there, especially when one death ends a map run.

I've been playing around with herald of ash and I'm on the fence about it. It's icing on my room clearing cake and when I watch a cascade of fiery explosions rip through a pack it really is satisfying. Single target it really lacks in power though. edit: I really have to check my monk build because I never really felt like it was blitzing through the acts at all. It always felt like I was conditionally able to clear areas with spike damage or gathering power charges for thundering fall or whatever and my ice strikes seemed to lag behind my warrior's basic dmg loop somehow. it's not like I was forgetting to upgrade my weapon or anything =/ well... i know damn well that taking my warrior into titan and getting hulking form basically snowballed all his damage even higher when all those 10% dmg nodes turned into 15%

You won't even notice it. I've been playing with it, it's DEFINTIELY not something that's been "toned down." It's actually a patch note AGAINST the blasters, but use casual bros won't feel it at all.

I wish they'd drop the honor mechanic entirely, unless they change it to a bar that fills with kills to do... something. This mechanic is the sole reason I quit playing melee characters, it's just not fun. My witch stomped through it though. The experiences aren't equal. Feels like Diablo 2 level of disparity

Excellent changes IMHO. I couldn't believe how much they screwed up the first Trial. I was taking sooo much Honour damage and the negative debuffs were stacked on top of it all. It took me close to 12 tries today to finally beat him. My first time ever taking that boss on it took me about 8 tries...but I had no idea how that fight was going to go and what to do/not do. I don't watch videos on how to beat the game, that just seems silly. I had a horrible build going into that fight and it was frustrating but taught me a lot. Fast forward to my second character heading into that Trial today and OMG, I could NOT get into the start of the fight with full Honour. I couldn't get into that fight without a debuff smacking me down. I always either had 40% damage debuff, and/or 25% loss in Honour. The crazy loss in honour due to DoTs was crazy!!! Every map was ramped up on mobs. I can't believe the Devs thought they needed to make that first trial harder in the first place.

yeah... I know i got lucky on my last time through with a warrior. I was able to get through the whole trial only taking 100~ dmg to my honour and was able to hit fountains to stay topped up. But seeing "Serpent Clans burrow and ambush attack now has improved visual telegraphing and cannot be used from as far away." it's like vindication cause I was legit bitching about them just "spawning" on me from off screen.

Making respec’s free disincentives players from actually testing their builds out thoroughly, as you can do one run say nah and go back to respec again. There should be items introduced that allows you to respec 5,10,15,20 etc points on use, cause you can already get items that give you +2 attribute points

50k gold per a full respect sound about right. If you go more say 100k there should be a item you find that can’t be traded and cuts cost by 50 percent more for like 24 hours. I’m good with whatever. Also later in game you making tons of gold regardless and eventually you I’ll be a billionaire

Why does respeccing cost anything at all? It’s early access, and it seems like this is kind of punishing creativity in build crafting. If you get stuck on a shit build and you’re broke then you’re kind of screwed. Especially with the sheer amount of options that massive skill world tree the game has

Because the whole point of early access is for them to test everything…. They also have to test the economy and how much things will cost in real time…

You can't trade your skill points, there is zero economy to be made, traded, or managed here. It is simply a tax to change your playstyle. That does not seem conducive to fun, and it actually restricts testing everything because now there is a arbitrary monetary barrier of entry.

So the honour system is broken. Witches never get hit. Melee get hit all the time. Sorceresses and rangers get hit a fair bit. It’s obviously unbalanced in the witches favour. How do we fix it??? Nerf the rangers and sorceress!!! Yaaay!

Cheaper isn’t the answer. It needs to be free. If the devs are honest and their goal is to get new players into POE then it should be free to explore passive trees and builds. Right now if a new player is told don’t explore. Don’t find what you like. Do what the build guides tell you. And that is not the way for the devs to achieve their goal of keeping new players.

It doesn't take forever to grind out the gold especially since they are cutting the rates in half. These types of games are made to make hard choices that are hard to get out of. It's not difficult to go on here and see what skills work well and/or follow a build guide. You guys just want everything easy and I hope GGG doesn't give in.

100% agree. The whole pay to respec in any game is just a bullshit mechanic to “elongate” play time. If they want to elongate my playtime give me free respec. Better yet give us load outs for builds, can even fuckin sell them in the store idc id buy it
