Amsterdam has about 90 miles of canals and more than 1500 bridges just in the historical centre, which still has the biggest 17th century historic centre in the western world. The crossings tourists make, at the same time everything looks smaller than it is. If there were no canals and the houses and buildings would be closer to both sides, you would get much more the European bigger visual city-vibe. Being this historic (during the Dutch golden-age A'dam was the biggest city in the world. Bigger than London or Paris ! So much still exist as it was 400 years ago ❤

I typically stay in DePijp or just south of the there. Tram into the city center is, as you know, 10 minutes. Plus walking to the Albert Cuyp market and surrounding eateries is awesome.

Why should you buy a bottle of water. Tapwater is fine in the Netherlands.

"Lotta silent killers out there." So true, in many European cities. Must keep your head on a swivel. Also, more people speak English than any other country I've visited in Europe.

Another thing that I disliked is: the lack of nature. You need to go to a park to actually see some grass. It's full of blocks of flats and wide roads but no flowers and no grass.

Compared to which other city??? There are a lot of parks but also Het Twiske, Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen, De Bretten, Amsterdamse Bos etc. And the view from my balcony is really just grass, flowers, trees etc. So it seems you’ve just seen a really small part of Amsterdam and you call that ‘the whole city’.

This obviously depends on anyone’s definition of ‘nature’ but there’s a lot of green in Amsterdam compared to many other cities with a similar population density. Besides the many public parks and the roadside/canal side trees along almost any road or street, most city blocks actually have an enclosed courtyard with gardens and trees. In many cities those are either built-up or car parks. And then there is ample countryside, several much larger parks and even nature reserves just twenty minutes out by train or bus.
