It began to rain as I rode my Surly Bridge Club bicycle down a gravel section. I pulled out the One Wind rain cape/shelter and put it on, zippered it up, put the hood up over my bike helmet, and threw the front of the cape up over my handlebars. It formed an umbrella over my hands, arms, legs, feet, and body, to keep me completely dry. What an ultralight, compact, shelter system; perfect!

"Lava loo" is Lavvu for anyone wondering. It's designed to be a 2 person 2 piece rain cape shelter.

The fact that this is perfect for a cowboy bedroll is why I'm buying one with the mesh tent. I don't normally carry my roll, so now I'll have a reason to! Thank you, sir!

You could run a ridgeline between to trees and suspend the peak from the ridgeline. I could also see covering the front with a sheet of clear plastic And building a fire in front to make a super shelter of sorts.

Leave it to Old Blackie to always find the best stuff. This guy cost me more money than any other channel. I went to their website and I could not find this particular product they do have a little teepee tent very much like it that I believe is about 44 bucks. But you have to pay extra for the screen mesh inner layer. And in Oklahoma you're definitely going to want that. I had actually thought about getting a medieval cloak and either treating it with linseed oil to have something very similar. The only advantage of that would be that it would actually be warmer when you wear it but it would also be a lot heavier too so that's definitely a consideration. This one has all the fixings. I wouldn't mind having it however I wouldn't just wear it all the time my experience with ponchos has taught me that in the kind of woods I go into they're going to end up with all kinds of rips and tears. But I do like cloaks a lot better than ponchos I just think all the viny thorns and trees with thorns that we have around my place would pretty much shred anything that thin but I still want to get one I just want to wear it all the time unless I'm setting somewhere Riding the Storm Out I would still rather use my old military Poncho for doing any kind of work in. Because I wouldn't want to tear a beauty like that up and I can always sew up a poncho or replace it fairly cheaply. I also want to point out that they have a mesh screen for another tent for 24 bucks that would be perfect under a tarp instead of buying the tent that goes with that one. I'm looking real hard at getting that. We have so many flying pests here practically year-round. It has to really be damn cold for them not to be out pestering you and if you got a fire going chances are they're going to be coming up out of the ground and buzzing you anyway it's ridiculous

I just bought this based on your two videos. I'm REALLY having to trust your link, there are virtually no videos for this one, only their actual poncho....and on the site I can't tell the difference between them, it makes no mention of it as a poncho, only a shelter. It SEEMS like what you're using, but far from a sure thing. I'm terrified I'll open a standard poncho....I want that deep hood and zip up feature, and all that coverage, I actually prefer not having arm openings and having to flip up and out. This will likely be my go to rain gear, TELL me your link was good🤣

As an emergency shelter or cloak, I get it. as something to camp under I expect both your head and feet to touch the fabric and ruin your sleeping bag with condensation. You could raise it off the ground by attaching guy lines or shock cord to the peg out points. but how sturdy are those?. My two tentformers were a waste of time and money. untill I get a close up of the work quality I won't bother with it. I do like the look of it mind.
@jeremymoses7401 Жыл бұрын
One wind actually has a shelter system for like $80 or so that might be better for you. Blackie did a thing on it a while back; that where the foot print thing he mentions comes from. Very roomy and you can buy components individually, foot print, bug net and such if $80 is out of range atm. Also has a stout little magnet piece for pulling slack out of the middle of the tarp. Anyway, i put it in the 3 sided leanto config and laid my grabber hotdog folded to simulate bed space, still had about a foot on either side (head/toe) and 6" front back before being our from under it without the "awning" setup.

@@BLACKIETHOMAS I should have mentioned it earlier, but I really like the newAI generated art style you’re using now. I really wasn’t interested in playing around with it myself. The way it has turned out changed my mind though. I just thought that it was very interesting that you’re getting a character that looks a lot like Old Saint Nick enjoying a well deserved summer vacation in the woods.
