I wish I had brought extra sheets and like maybe a board game or something to play with friends on the weekends or something bc it gets expensive to go out every weekend and do something so being able to play games and stuff would have been a ton of fun and inexpensive. I wish I hadn't brought so many decorations so I couldn't hang. Like I just had stuff all over my desk and it was so cluttered. Like simplicity will calm your nerves it almost looks better than having a ton of stuff everywhere

On the school supplies bit: I would actually recommend buying a few essentials ahead of time to bring with you! I waited till I got to college to get my notebooks and stuff and when I got to the store there was literally none left. I went to 3 different stores and ended up having to use loose paper for the first couple weeks, which I hated. So I would say just get 2-3 notebooks and some pencils and pens just in case the stores near your school are out! I work at Target and we just put out our school stuff yesterday and are expected to run out in the next couple weeks! Of course we'll get more in, but the later you wait, the less options you have!

One thing that I really wish I brought with me to college was a rug! My roommate was supposed to bring it but she never did and hitting the linoleum floors at 5:15 in the winter was terrible!!! I completely agree with the mattress pad, but I also really think you should bring are extra large pillows. People can sit on them and they don't take up as much space as chairs do for when people come over! A quick piece of advice for incoming freshman, while moving in and if you're just hanging in your dorm during the first week, keep your door open! You'll be able to meet more people on your floor :)
@grouch3147 жыл бұрын
I don't know why I'm watching this. I'm about to go back for my 3rd year. I think the tools thing depends on whether or not you know how to use them. I walked into my flat last year and immediately had to fix the chair and rehang the closet door. Definitely bring at least a hammer, a couple of screwdrivers and an adjustable spanner. You'd be amazed what you can fix with those, even if it's just shutting off the water if a pipe bursts while you wait for a plumber. I took a sewing kit because I'm hard on my clothes so I have to fix them fairly often. With plates and bowls, I kept two of each in the kitchen cupboard and two more in my room under the bed. That way I didn't fill up my cupboards and I had to wash up every day but if I had friends over, they had something to eat off. I'm not a fan of paper plates. I bought some extra hooks and mounted them with the picture hanging command strips. It just gave me more places to hang coats and jeans since I had a very small closet.

It's nice to consider getting some sort of activity to do with your roommates, such as cards or board games! Personally, my roommates and I got really into puzzles! It was easy for us to bond over because it requires a bit of teamwork, plus it's easy to chat while you're doing it. Not to mention that puzzles are nice because you can easily take a break from them if need be! We found lots of small ones at dollar tree, and there's a puzzle exchange at our public library, so it was a cheap activity as well!

The leisurely book reading is REAL! Being an English major, I tend to have to read more classics/other books than the novels I brought with me due to my classes. This left little time for my own reading/writing and just took up space. Though if you WANT to bring books, is at least recommended small paperbacks and on,y your top favorites.

I'm an incoming freshman at Adelphi so I didn't bring anything to my dorm yet but i already have most of supplies from your what to bring sections. For my fellow freshman, I recommend asking your residential office for a checklist of what to bring or during your orientation, ask the office or any upperclassmen you might see. Most colleges will have one to prevent students from over packing and of course you can learn from the other students' mistakes or successes. Also it can save you alot of money if you buy value paks from your school's dorming store. I had bought one from Adelphi's ocm and now I don't have to worry about my linens, topper, pillows or even a laundry bag and storage. The good thing about it is that I basically paid $108 + shipping for items I would have bought in total for maybe $200 or more at stores.

Michelle Reed since I was in a typical dorm room with a roommate, we had beds that could be lofted so tools were actually really helpful for us and the people in my hall! A brita water filter was awesome since our water was never cold or filtered. I wouldn't bring roller blades, skateboards, or musical instruments (unless you are in a related club) because all the I know who had them rarely used them and they just took up space

One thing I wish I hadn't brought to college is excessive underbed storge. At my school they give you a desk and a dresser and a bed. The desk and dresser have a lot of storage already and if you get those really big 3 drawer bins they have at like target, you can't put your dresser under you bed and therefore save a lot of room. I not only found that I didn't really need them but they took up too much space in the small dorm.

do you know of any alternatives to having a dresser? I'll be a sophomore in college this year and I'll have an apartment. I want to buy a dresser for my room but don't really want to spend ~$150 on one. I will have a decent sized walk in closet but my apartment isn't furnished so I'm torn between buying a dresser or not

Abby Asselin the dresser i have right now is from ikea and was only $60!

I'm going to be a sophomore next year, also in an apartment! For a dresser I just bought one of the big 3 x 3 target cube organizers! I had a 1x 3 last year in my dorm and I ended up using it to store extra clothes and it works just as well as a dresser! I'm not sure how much money they are because I actually bought mine from a senior that I knew who was moving out and selling it for a cheaper price, but I don't think they're too expensive from target! You can also go on the Facebook market place and probably find one or a real dresser for pretty cheap!!
@loveandlilacs7 жыл бұрын

She said not to pack a lot of kitchenware...but my 6 person apartment has a kitchen and I'm going to be cooking pretty much all of my food to save money. So...I think I'm gonna bring it. People staying in the dorms wouldn't need to, but I certainly do. I want to save money and eat healthy, not the crap that you can find on campus. Anybody with me? I think that it just depends on what your priorities are. Edit: Oh. She meant not a lot of plates and glasses. Lol. That makes sense. I'm gonna be meal prepping a lot, so I'll probably be eating out of mostly Tupperware anyways. 😁

I wish I wouldn’t have brought so many books and knickknacks. They just got in the way. 😩 I wish I would have brought my wall decor tho

The only thing for decor I'm bringing to college is the picture of my best friend and me. I swear if I don't have that I'm not going to survive!
