I always run my new jeans through the wash inside out with just vinegar. It sets the color. Subsequently I always wash jeans inside out with detergent and vinegar. Really helps lock in the dye. I still wouldn’t carry my light color bags if they might rub on my jeans. Great vid and thank you!

Sophie, you’re right on time with this video! I’ve been thinking real hard about a white handbag. My worry was color transfer. I’ve seen white and lite colored patent leather handbags destroyed by color transfer. I decided to settle for a bone creme color handbag instead. My SA found a round, small creme color Gucci Marmont for me and since it was just $900, I purchased it over the phone with her yesterday. I’m going to let this small Gucci be my guinea pig tester of how well I do with a white color handbag. Lol! If I destroy it, I won’t be too upset since it was just $900. But I’m going to try and take care of it. If no color transfer occurs after about 6 months and everything is going well, I may then get a large white leather handbag. So we’ll see. I will say that it’s not as many fashionable & sharp white handbags as it is colors. It’s not a lot to choose from when it comes to white.

I just wanted to point out that if you go to the 01:23 minute of your video you can see that the left side of the bag's flap it's a lot longer than the right and it covers up the leather pattern and doesn't let the continuity of the patter flow right. Great informative video. I’ve been wanting ysl white camera bag since last summer but since we didn’t travel and go anywhere, I didn’t buy it. Was recently reviewing what’s new on ysl and saw same white puffer bag which is really lovely. And I’m less afraid to own white designer bag as well now. Less than two years ago I would not even consider a white bag. Then I fell head over heels in love last year with the Chanel Ccco handle from the 19K collection, and decided to take the chance. I love it! And last month I bought another white bag, a 21S iridescent white mini. I am very careful, and cognizant of the risks, but so far my Coco handle is still in perfect condition. I have not had the chance to wear the new white mini yet, but hope to this week. They are such amazing beauties that I feel they are worth getting 😊

Thnx Sophie! I find the magic eraser a great hack when you accidentally get dye on your leather bags. Also I always spray EVERYTHING with Colonil Carbon Protect. Vachetta, lambskin, works like a charm!

You should think about exploring the Japanese secondhand market. They take it quite seriously over there and have all sorts of shops selling preloved designer items, with a strict authenticity process. It’s not uncommon to find women who get bored of their Chanel bags and go into one of these shops to get something else. You can even buy online so that’s a plus!

Have you thought about sneaker protection products? Like the liquid repellent & cleaner etc, they’re designed for different types of leathers / canvases / suedes on sneakers which tend to be delicate and get dye transfer from pants. They work great, so don’t see why they wouldn’t work for leather bags too

Lovely video! I have another tip: My white Chloe Marcie is turning 10 this year and there is only a hue of colour transfer at the back. Whenever I notice some, I go over it with a super soft rubber (eraser for the americans here :)) But I don't know if I would recommend it for very delicate leather... the Marcie leather imo is pretty indestructible, yet it is softer than chanel caviar leather for comparison

I love white bags and had a few of them. I think color transfer depends on the quality of the clothes you are wearing as well as the bags. I do not know if the quality has changed but there seems to be a big problem now. I am older but I do not remember having a big problem in the '60s and ' 70's bags.

One of my beige Gucci bags has color transfer from wearing dark rinse jeans. I'm super careful now. I actually like how the handles on LV bags get darker with age. I bought a Chanel beige clair 4 months ago (Dec) & last week bought a white cardholder for it, but have been curious if certain fabrics dont transfer color, such as silk, cashmere, etc or just to buy higher quality clothing.
