Thank you so much! You have helped to save me from surgery! I found you a few months back after falling and injuring my knee! I wish I had known all of what you teach when I was younger! You just don’t understand how everything is SO connected within our bodies and how they work in tandem! I have started saving your videos on glute/hip exercises, because without the strength of butt muscles and hip flexibility it literally becomes crippling! Again thank you for SCREAMING that surgery is not always necessary and to give exercise therapy a chance to work. I’m so glad I found you! Long story short you rock!

I’ll be 65 in March and have been active all of my adult life. Two years ago my partner and I started lifting heavy weights 4 times a week and doing more cardio. This summer my son had a brain bleed and I had to go and care for my three grandsons for a month. I wore them out everyday. We walked more than 100 miles in the month. I also easily carried the 9 and 4 year old up the stairs on the nights when they fell asleep on the couch. Keeping fit is legit! And if anyone thinks that I don’t have aches from previous injuries, they’re wrong. I just push right on through.

Walking lunges, squats, split squats, deadlift, step-ups, long distance walks, hiking and cycling in the summer, snowshoeing and cross country skiing in the winter. Oh and I do upper body exercises as well. That's my routine. I used to work out 6 times a week when I was younger but now that I'm in my 60s I do light workouts (i.e. walking) every day and heavy workouts (weight lifting or cross country skiing) every other day. Cross country skiing is my favourite because it is intense exercise for your muscles and cardiovascular system, but the sliding motion is easy on your joints (as long as you are careful and don't crash). It's also great for balance. And it's fun!

This is great advice! As a 50 yr old, I’ve had right knee pain and stiffness for some years and eventually developed a Baker’s cyst behind my knee from running. Over the past year, I started doing deadlifts and squats for my glutes and posterior chain. The Baker’s cyst has completely disappeared, and my knees feel much stronger!

I want to thank u for a video that I watched, in reference to Siatic Nerve payment. About a month ago, I woke up with a pain in my left butt cheek. I didn't think to much about it, but before the day was over I had excruciating pain running down my left leg down to my ankle. It was brutal! After watching one of yr videos where u recommended 5 exercises to do to alleviate the pain. I started doing these exercises about 4 or 5 times a day. Guess what!! They worked. Although I know that I m not completely cured, I can tell u that my pain is all but gone. I continue to do ur exercises & I feel great. Again, thank u for doing away with my pain!

I was fortunate when I was young that I had a big brother who got me involved in playing ice hockey. And throughout my lifetime I always play hockey intermittently. Full-time work always seemed to get in the way. But in 2020 I had eye surgery and had to give up full-time work. I took early retirement at 62. After I recovered from surgery I started rollerblading and then I started ice skating and then I started playing ice hockey again! Now I am playing ice hockey twice a week! I play on Tuesday nights and Friday nights every week. On my off days I go on walking trails with my dog and walk at least three to five miles. I have also added some resistance training in calisthenics into my regiment. I can't believe how good I feel and I'm probably in the best shape of my life! Retirement is the best thing that ever happened to me now that I have time!

I've started tightening my glutes and crunching my toes while sitting in my chair a few times per day. I'm also walking or shopping every other day with less effort/pain with a day in between for rest. My knee pain and stiffness continue to improve. I'd almost given up but I'm so happy I found you on KZbin and didn't. I encourage your viewers to give your strategies a try! Again, many thanks!

Falling on the kneecaps was like aging 50 years over night. Found a good physio who showed me to get out of a chair properly which made life a bit easier as I couldn't just propel myself out of a chair anymore. One meniscus has become really painful so I am ditching the recent quad exercises I was doing even though they did straighten out the legs initially. I can't even wear a brace without that causing pain

Hi Kathleen You're very welcome! We're sorry to hear about the knee pain-it's never easy to deal with. We hope you find relief. We have a lot of free resources on our channel. Just in case you are interested we have a knee arthritis help playlist you may find helpful. You can access it here: “Knee Arthritis Help” kzbin.info/aero/PLJVIPiFvv1maa9YF-WmKLF7oI4VoczH8i Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not. We hope you found this information helpful to you. We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!

I hurt my right knee a year ago. I was doing squats, burpees and mountain climbers in my work out. Oh yeah I was also doing jumping jacks. The combo of these exercises started to make my knee very sore until one day while doing burpees, I heard a pop in my right knee. I could barely walk and it wasn't getting better. Then I found you on KZbin and started doing butt and toe exercises. It took a little while but one day while walking up some stairs at work I felt my glutes kick in and take pressure off of my knee. Before I knew it I was walking and climbing stairs pain free. I still do glutes and foot and toe exercises to this day and feel so much better for it. Thanks Doc!

I was diagnosed with Chondromalacia patella. I had surgery to shave frayed Cartlidge from behind my knee cap over 20 years ago. After that I had constant pain in the knee cap and had to apply compression under my knee cap for pain relief. I whore various knee straps for pain relief. The doctor that performed the surgery said that I needed to strengthen my quads and said nothing about strengthening my glutes. Years of quad exercises did nothing to help with my constant knee pain. I started using an elliptical workout machine at work for a cardio workout with less impact on my knees. I used the machine at the maximum incline of 20% and did this 3 to 6 times per week for 15 minutes. I was very surprised that the knee that had the surgery started feeling much better and now I can't remember the last time I needed to use a knee strap. I think the 20% incline on the elliptical machine has strengthen my glute muscles and eliminated my knee pain as this video explains. This was very eye opening and an unexpected surprise. This video is spot on!!

Dr. David ... Have you ever considered urging patients to do a kind of cross-country movement in water? I've been doing it for 25 years one hour a day and I have been able to avoid the "old man butt syndrome" - as you say. You know, there are various ways to manage a tiny postage stamp-sized pool which is full of drinking water quality water. No chlorine or salt-chlorine involved. There are other exercises one can do in such a tiny pool, too, to recruit the fast twitch muscles, Type IIx. It's a great compound exercise that recruits just about every muscle in the body - to prevent sarcopenia, too.

I found the toughest leg exercise, stair steps. Use bottom two steps, step on left leg to second step, then step back down. Do double steps on left leg 100 times then right leg 100 times, then left 100, then right 100. 800 double steps (400 each leg) simulates hiking up 1000 feet of a mountain. Works out the whole leg from foot to hip

If you have had scans and x-rays showing your cartilage degrading and decreasing (over the last two years) until now, there is absolutely NO cartilage left in your knee, is it true cartilage cannot grow back or regenerate?

Is lifting weights at a senior age a good idea as there’s a danger of getting a hernia if the abdominal muscles are not very strong? I’m 77.

Nice one, very unusual for someone to tell people to "work things out", ie take responsibility. Well done. Interesting and helpful video.

Thank you! I train my glutes and feet. I now wear barefoot shoes and love them. Should I also curl my toes/point my feet like a ballerina? It feels like I train some extra muscles this way? ❤❤
