I like that you are showing dermatitis herpetiformis. Many physicians don’t seem to be able to diagnose it. I went to many physicians and a dermatologist who told me that there was nothing wrong with me. After researching rashes, I finally came across it. I gave up gluten and my rash went away. You would think that since Celiac’s Disease can be so serious, I would have been able to get assistance long before I did.

Hi Dr. Deshauer! Your videos are always so interesting to me. I want to be an RN and eventually an NP, and right now I’m in high school and I’m getting my nurse assistant certification this semester and then the next 3 semesters (second junior year semester and all of senior year) I’ll be taking LPN classes at my high school and then take the NCLEX-PN once I graduate. Your videos are so cool and they always motivate me. Your videos always brighten up my day!

Wow! I had no idea anyone could do their LPN concurrent with high school anywhere. That’s pretty cool and you’re obviously a go-getter! The world needs dedicated, compassionate care providers, and becoming an NP is a great idea. It’s a great autonomous profession and has a broad scope of practice. If possible, when you’re getting your RN degree, take all of the extra/advanced pharmacology, pathophysiology, anatomy, etc, that you’re able and you’ll gain a deep understanding of the “why” rather than the task oriented “how” and you’ll be ahead of the game in in the NP program, as well as it truly benefitting you in your profession. I mean, you already are way ahead… I’m so impressed!

Just a note: I was itchy all over for 21 months. Doctors couldn't figure it out. I kept being passed on and on. I was eventually diagnosed by the University Hospital, having a biopsy as well, with allergy to light. yeah...light. WRONG!! Auto-immune disorder. Nobody gave me an MRI I have a 50 year old spinal cord injury. I figured out I shared 56 MS symptoms and told my doctor. I needed a Neurologist.....still waiting for one, they are "too busy" for me this last year. The itch went away when my stress reduced and my emotions calmed down. I was THAT bothered by uncertainty in a romantic relationship..... I was allergic to my boyfriend!😅

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and myalgic encephalomyelitis when I was 28 and polycythemia at age 39. About 4 weeks ago at age 41, my doctor took a new job, my new doctor took one look at my history and and says " let's test your ferritin". It was 827 with high tsat. A genetic test comes back homozygous for H63D. I got all the symptoms. Extreme fatigue, joint problems, etc. I cannot believe all this time no one has checked my iron. It seems like this should be on a standard CBC or metabolism test, at least a few times over 20 years.

My oncologist thinks it's because it started somewhere else in my body, and then migrated to my back, where it showed up as what my GP thought was a cyst. After a biopsy that was quickly ruled out. Note: As a chemist and having worked in toxicology, I recently learned that one of the causes of gout is lead exposure... Of course many of the old pewter (recipe of pewter has changed over time due to lead concerns) and crystal glass alcohol glasses and decanters contained lead, and alcohol, especially distilled alcoholic beverages extract the lead from the leaded glass containers and old pewter drinking cups. Also, too much sugar/carbs in the diet can also trigger gout as your liver works overtime converting ht excess sugars to triglycerides for storage (in case of a future famine)....

Wow, that was super interesting! But honestly, I have no hope that any other doctor knows about this. If I told them I heard about these relations on the internet, they would most probably handle it in a dismissive way. Since a long time, by the way, I am already convinced that growths on the skin indicate also possible growths inside the body. Especially since they increasingly occur with old age. And my mother indeed had a significant increase of seborrhoeic keratosis and also developed skin cancer while she had a growth of internal cancer. 😔 I myself suddenly developed a bunch of ruby spots and little aging spots. I had them removed and they didn't occur again ever since, but I was wondering where they came from so suddenly and then also stopped so suddenly.

A "rum blossom" (AKA "gin blossom" or "whiskey nose") is an enlarged red nose sometimes seen in serious alcoholics. It used to be used in old cartoons and comics as a way to show someone was a heavy drinker. Your description made me wonder whether a rum blossom was just a large number of spider nevi concentrated in the nose, but a brief internet search suggests that it isn't.

I see you are a rheumatologist. Can you do a dive into the rheumatology aspects of Hashimoto's and ideas about how to treat that? Many women with Hashimoto's end up suffering because endocrinologists say you need to see a rheumatologist but rheumatologists, although trained in autoimmune diseases, aren't trained about Hashimoto's. Neither profession will address or treat it. In western states, they will give you low dose naltrexone, and that helps, but it's almost impossible to find anyone outside of that area willing to consider it. And, because the American Thyroid Association doesn't really recognize that part of the problem and doesn't "approve" any treatment for it, that encourages most doctors to refuse to treat as well. (Same with T3/T4 treatment. As soon as your blood levels are in the "normal" range you are told you are fine and that your persistent symptoms cannot exist because "your levels are normal." You are given antidepressants instead because all of your problems are "in your head" rather than acknowledging that you are still suffering from the very disease that you actually have.)
@Pamela-jr3ht3 ай бұрын
Excellent, you're learning that you need to depend on yourself and not doctors. The first thing to do is change your diet. There are wonderful books on Hashimoto's diet plans. I'm celiac (had the dermatitis issues as well). Doctors wouldn't listen to me either, they had no idea what was going on. I had to take my health care into my own hands. Check out Dr Brooke Goldner on KZbin. She's had some amazing results. Blessings

I had the Xanthomas (Zanthomas?). I went to the cardiologist for baseline since heart disease runs in my family. I had these white bumps on my arms and couldn’t figure out what was going on. The cardiologist and his PA both looked at my arms and were like, “oh,” and I said, “yeah I’m on my way to the dermatologist after this appointment.” I went to the dermatologist, And she took one look at them and said she’d be right back. When she came back, she said you need to go to the lab right now. I went to the lab and I wasn’t fasting, but my triglycerides were over 5000! That is not a typo. That was when I was diagnosed with hyper triglyceridemia and obviously it was through the roof. They kept asking me why I wasn’t in the ICU or dead. Later I had gone and gotten tested again, and it was over 10,000. They were really shocked then! I already knew I had diabetes and high cholesterol, but I didn’t know anything about triglycerides at that point. Now, my triglycerides are excellently controlled, my cholesterol is normal, and my diabetes is almost completely controlled. I can never remember what those things are called, so I just usually call them cholesterol bumps. But fortunately, I’ve never had them again.

Man, I was watching this while eating dinner and instantly had to train my brain for ... 'mind over matter' powers to strengthen my gut !!! Either way, besides your skin looking healthy and beautiful, doctor, this vid production was helpful and informative and helped to reinforce some basic preventative life style ideas to just plain eat healthier overall and try to practice healthier life living awareness day to day!

Is sugar linked to skin tags?
@TurtleDove18883 ай бұрын
Yes. I was told it was caused by high sugar or insulin. Not sure which.

Yes, it is.

Yes, it’s is due to insulin resistance. Sugars is the main culprit - having a low carb diet like Ketogenic or carnivore can make it go away.

Can you have a liver problem (anything) with normal blood work (hepatic panel)?

thank you so much, this was really interesting. I saw the thumbnail & was hoping for an answer/explanation about these little red 'spots' I have around my neck & chest area - not really worried about them, just annoying... ok - last time I looked... ahhh, think I might have found out what they are - cherry angiomas previous search led me to petechiae - but they're not that (for one thing, they're NOT "flat") & not the spider thingee either (no veins, don't disappear under pressure (I wish!) - nor the marks I saw in the thumbnail. anyway, thanks - always appreciate learning new things about the wonder that is the human body, looking forward to part II
