Some things that have helped to control my hairfall include: (1) I discontinued wearing hair ties because it causes tension damage. (2) I started massaging my hair and scalp 2 times a week with liitleextra cocoonnion hair oil while leaning forward & holding my head inverted to allow blood flow to the scalp. (3) Protecting my head while moving out to protect my hair from dust and pollution. (4) Using gentle shampoo again from liittleextra only to cleanse my hair.

My daughter was just diagnosed w Hypothyroidism. She’s 20 and had been having lots of hair loss for awhile every time she brushed her hair. I honestly first thought it was from all the box hair dyes she was doing but after several other symptoms we had her thyroid checked and sure enough! She’s been on Synthroid for a month now and has noticed a big difference already! Thx for this video! Very informative!

In July 2022 I started with strange looking sores on my scalp that were very painful, itchy, scaly, and would sometimes bleed. In addition, where every sore was my hair would just fall out...I could run my hands through my hair and get handfuls of hair. I went to a Dermatologist who did a punch biopsy and I was diagnosed with Scarring Alopecia secondary to Lichen Planopilaris. My hair will never grow back since the scarring destroys the hair follicle. I am now completely bald and having a lot of fun wearing wigs and saving a lot of money on shampoo & conditioner...hey, you have to find the bright side of things like this, at least in my opinion anyway.

@user-kc7mu4jp4p You're welcome 😊 Unfortunately, the cause is unknown, but we do know it's an autoimmune condition (I already have a few autoimmune conditions). Since it's an autoimmune disorder/disease, it will never go away, but it can go into remission. I have been suffering from this disease, and the symptoms of it, for 1 year now.

Thank you so much for explaining TE! I had big surgeries in 2020 3 months apart and was losing so much hair. The surgeons and doctors were really dismissive of my concerns and if they could've just taken literally 2 minutes to address my concerns and assure me that it was mostl likely a temporary thing it really would've lowered my stress levels. Hair is super full and back in action now. :)

Hello! I am a 69 year old lady. I noticed hair loss around Oct.,22..... I also have RA, for over 30 years. I have been on Methotrexate for almost that long. Also, I was on Leuflonimde . Was told it was probably from the Methotrexate..Since stopping, my hair is getting back to normal! Thank goodness my RA is not a problem. No flares. I was also told to try Rogaine, and take the supplement Nutrafol Womens Balance. I thought, ya, right. supplements. But in truth, since taking them, I feel energetic and better than I have in years! Who knew!. Glad you are back! P.S. I also am hypothyroid, which is managed by meds. Had thyroid nodules removed in 1973. Also, Hashimoto's... LOL...and I also have the enevitable female pattern thinning on the back of my head! I call it the old lady look of bed head!

So, Siobhan, if we're in our latter 60s, is hair loss not normal? Granted, I've had a shock about a year and some months ago, but it seems unfair to be undergoing this. I'm talking about an emotional shock: being abandoned by a partner, causing huge changes in my life and expectations.

I cannot thank you enough for mentioning post-immunization TE! I had a very strong immune reaction to the C19 vaccine, and three months later my hair was falling out in clumps. I lost over 50% of my hair in 6 weeks and was terrified it was permanent. No doctor I spoke to (then or since) has agreed with my theory that it may have been caused by the shock to my immune system, so I've been concerned that whatever caused my hair loss may return. But this video gave me a huuuuge sigh of relief!

so interesting! thanks for the super cool video Siobahn . My mum had super thinning hair that started thinning after menopause, and my nephew's started getting male pattern hair loss in his 20's - so we figured it was my mum's influence , but it's interesting to know that's not true that it comes from the female side - i'm sure they were telling us that as late as my biology classes in university in the early 90s 🙂

I think i have to figure out the reason for my hair loss on my own. I have gone to multiple specialists and none of them can tell me with certainty what it is. It started when I was in the 6th grade and over time has gotten worse. My hair is very thin and you can see my scalp at the front and sometimes in the back. We did tests for PCOS, thyroid, hormones, and then they always come to the same conclusion…it’s genetic. But no one in my family has this issue. It’s very upsetting because it seems no one wants to figure out the real cause. Usually they default to “try minoxidil” and brush it off, but it’s become incredibly clear I have to do my own research and ask for tests. Thank you, this gives me more issues to consider. I have anemia and have had an anxiety disorder that was just diagnosed. I think those two are part of the reason I’ve always had thinning hair. I will keep investigating though.

Expert hairdressers have told me that hair should be washed only once or twice weekly. More frequent washing removes too much natural oil and disturbs the chemical balance of the hair. The culture of daily hair washing was cultivated by the shampoo manufacturers.

My husky was diagnosed as zinc deficient due to hair loss (they had suspected cushings first (my thought was an adrenal or thyroid tumor), but his bloodwork was clean). It turns out he had late stage cancer (they assume liver or stomach) which they were unable to diagnose until it was way too late. I lost him suddenly, a month after the hair loss started. I've also seen hair loss in pets with allergies, stress, mites and even from an ovarian cyst (from working at an animal shelter). I'm just saying it's something to look out for in pets too and to always take it seriously. Animal medicine can be surprisingly similar to human medicine. We often even prescribe the same medications like prednisone.

I got my hair cut short recently and noticed a balding patch on the left side of my hair that has thinner white hairs. The rest of my head hair is a bit thicker and nearly black, and it could be alopecia. I never noticed it because I keep the sides of my hair longer and the longer hairs were probably covering it. For years I haven't been able to grow a beard as it comes in patchy and only one side of my moustache would grow, the other side doesn't and only grows sparse, not really visible white hairs. I have had blood tests and done a number of times, including recently and they didn't show any issues. I am going going to contact my doctor and find out about this and see if I can get it sorted out.

Violin, I've had burning scalp syndrome for a few years now. It is a horrible and very painful condition that doctors know very little or nothing about. My life has totally changed and I feel I have no hope. D you know anything about burning scalp. I would appreciate a video on this subject and would be soooo grateful 💓

Hi Dr. Siobhan, it's good to watch a new video from you! May I suggest some names of brazilian singers and bands, I think you will like to listen to these: ( just copy and paste by KZbin to find some of the songs, if you like ). Roupa Nova / 14 bis / Roberto Carlos / Tom Jobim ( Tom created Bossa Nova, that some called the Brazilian jazz ). I'm going to watch your video now. Have a great weekend! :-)

Both men and women can suffer from androgenic alopecia if their hair follicles are sensitive to Dihydrotestosterone (not testosterone). Female pattern hairloss is simply diffuse thinning, whereas male pattern balding is more localized to temple area and vertex. Both have the same culprit, and both genders can experience the opposite pattern hairloss.

I have hypothyroidism and have been on the correct medication for years, as well as taking a multivitamin each day. However, my hair is constantly falling out of my head, and I'm constantly tired. All my blood tests come back normal, no defincies or low levels of anything. I just wish the tiredness would go away.

This is also Hormonal too. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the androgen that is our main focus here, and pattern baldness is common in males whose blood DHT level are high.

I had Beau's lines when I had an Amniotic Fluid Embolism in 2009 when my son was born. I survived and ended up having a hemorrhagic stroke in my frontal lobe as well. I had to learn to walk again. I think I'm doing pretty well considering what happened. My son is completely fine. He's now a cranky 13 year old. 🤣

A test done a few years ago showed that I had a fair amount of gadolinium in me. (The medical world calls it a contrast dye) Then I took a zinc supplement once and my hair came out almost in clumps. I waited a week and the second time I took a zinc supplement, more hair fell out. I discovered the hair loss was due to transmetalation.

Is there a blood test for gadolinium levels? Please could you let me know what the test you had was?
@Susan.Lewis.
@Susan.Lewis. 9 күн бұрын
@@vida3123 The test is called a Urine Element Analysis. Obviously a urine test. The test was prescribed by my Naturopathic Doctor. I gave a urine sample at my local lab and they sent it to a different Province to analyse it. When I had an angiogram done at a hospital, they gave me Gd and they called it a contrast dye. Your body is supposed to pee it out within 24 hours but that didn't happen for me. It also didn't work that way for Chuck Norris' wife when she had an MRI. She was far worse than I was. You can google Chuck Norris and gadolinium to find out what happened to her. BTW, I've also read that when patients do pee out heavy metal, it ends up polluting your municipal water system.

As a retired doctor (I was a specialist) I’ll give you my two cents. You need a primary healthcare provider, be it a family physician or nurse practitioner with training in family medicine. They are generalists and can refer you to the appropriate specialist, if one is needed. In most countries outside the US, specialists will not see patients without a referral unless it’s an emergency.

Thank you Dr. Siibhan, This is truly a good message ot you about Hair Losses with different health problems to people. I also had hair loss problems two years ago, mostly because of too much dandruff in my hair and some other reasons. Siobhan, Is there anything about our depression which causes hair loss? I used to take Biotin medicine and used Anti- Dandruff Shampoo to fight against dandruff and hair loss. Now my hair is not falling Siobhan. I feel happy, but the problem is I'm suffering from. Motor Neurone Disease and not strong as other boys. I'm not even lucky to get married. I feel sad Siobhan

I have a male pattern hair loss. Went to a dermatologist, had a biopsy done couldn't find what's wrong. Went to an endocrinologist couldn't find what's wrong with me. So I give up and start wearing a wig. I have a vitamin D deficiency so about all the symptoms you mentioned for iron deficiency anemia I already had them due to the vitamin D deficiency. So whenever the symptoms start to bother me I just take some over the counter supplements and it goes away. Later on I start having heavy peroid all the symptoms of iron deficiency are there but when I took the vitamin D it didn't improve like it normally does so I decided to go see my PCP. After some lab work I was anemic. Then they investigate it was my multiple Uterine fibroid that was causing those problems. I had a myomectomy and now my hair is growing back slowly. Personally I think my uterine fibroids were the cause of my hair loss. I was diagnosed with them in my 20 but they were small and didn't bother me. My doctor then told I can remove them but there is a chance that they will grow back so I decided to leave them alone. So Doc what do you think about my hypothesis.

Yup, male pattern hairloss and heart problems run in the family. I started losing my hair in college, although some told me it looked thin on top in high school. Then I started HTN meds in my mid 20s. My crown was hairless before 30 and my life was basically over with no hope of ever getting married. Although I didn't die until my mid 40s. They brought me back to life with advanced tech. Now, if only they can bring my hair back, then maybe I'll find a reason for being here.

I’m 33 and started having hair loss just on my head. Unfortunately it’s my testosterone that’s killing it. But I fixed in after 6 months of using minoxidil and finasteride that I have to take everyday for the rest of my life or for as long as I want hair. Sucks but it is what it is at least I got my hair back.

I was hoping you would cover the type of hair loss I have. I do have a receding hairline but it’s not that easy…my hair follicles become inflamed all along the hairline and the hair falls out. Nothing the doctors have prescribed has helped and as far as I know they haven’t given it a name.
