I believe the average payout is 1 dollar for every 1000 views. So if you have a vid that has 1M views 1 time, you make not a lot of money for a lot of work. But when you manage to consistently throw out vids with average views of 300k every few days, I can see why some people can get pretty rich of it. Like YT fav. H3N3. (that ugly neckbeard with a beanie).

@mariannecontrino62974 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I thought Drew Gooden's was great too, it was very factual, and he made some excellent points, that had anyone connected to her actually listened too, could have improved the show exponentially. It's a shame she, and those around her, were unwilling to take constructive criticism, and anyone that offered it, was either a "hater", "racist", or "a white man that didn't want to see a woman of color on tv". When the reality was she's not funny, and the writing sucked. Unfortunately, this whole cluster fuck, has done the exact opposite of what it hoped to do, and instead has actually made it harder for women of color to be given an opportunity like that again in the future.
@xa51504 жыл бұрын
@Marianne Contrino While I agree with most of what you said, I don’t fully agree with it making it harder for a demographically similar individual to be given an opportunity like that in the future. My disagreement comes from the opinion that those who would disagree with what she has done, largely, do not identify/confine her as representative of those demographics, but, rather, ideology. While some may have such a limited perception that would impact the prospects of those demographically similar, I do not believe it is the majority. Ironically, the position to treat people differently based on such demographics, which is one espoused by many who share in her ideology in an attempt to rectify historical injury, actual or perceived, is what would hinder another similar opportunity (ie identity politics). Unfortunately, corporations are slow to learn and so is the vocal minority of each ideology, with which the mob of the masses associate. If such people actually learned from their mistakes, they would recognize that each is their own individual and what one does and subsequently results in does not preclude another from going down a different path when given the same resources/opportunity, regardless of demographic similarity or differences. The show is done poorly for a variety of reasons, least of which relate to demographics. Change any number of factors and things could easily be much different. The problem arises when it is approached through a lens of identity politics and that being what decisions are based on. It limits perception and consideration of numerous factors, including qualifications and ability, not to mention chemistry, internal or otherwise. In short, if they are smart it shouldn’t impact future opportunities for others. Although, if they were smart, this likely wouldn’t have happened/ended up how it did. Hopefully they realize everyone deserves their own chance. Like I said though, it’s only a partial disagreement, because corporations are slow to learn and they’ve bought what the vocal sold and once you view things through a lens ‘for a positive reason’ it is hard not to do the same when it then becomes ‘negative’
@sapaulgoogdmen95424 жыл бұрын
X A I agree that while most people understand that Lilly isn’t representative of every person in that demographic the people in charge of handing out shows and greenlighting programs don’t like to take risk. They viewed Lilly as a risk since not only does she come from a KZbin background but also because of the crossing of demographics that she represents. Knowing this they hoped they could lean into it and garner support and viewers from not only those that knew her from KZbin but also people that would be interested in that demographic. Unfortunately they chose to focus on things that alienated people not in that demographic. I believe they manage to snag her KZbin fans but others might not be as receptive to being “pandered” to. I believe that the people in charge might not understand that there mistake was in leaning to hard into it and alienating people. Most people don’t care that she’s a woman of color and bisexual because (I hate to use this phrase but) it’s 2020. That isn’t to say that there aren’t people who still care about that but they aren’t as common, vocal, or represented positively as the past. However the executives might just see this as a problem with Lilly’s demographic rather than a problem with her specifically or her comedy. Because of this I feel that her not succeeding will effect others like her in the industry. This doesn’t mean that people aren’t on board with the idea just that the executives are older and tend to have a simplistic view on what people want to watch. See the movie industry constantly popping out sequels and remakes. They do this because it makes a lot of money. While an original story tends to make less money today which makes executives think people don’t want to see original ideas despite them getting great reviews from those who watch it. In this way Lilly is like an original story idea for a movie, she has to not only get great reviews but also bring in an audience and make money. I don’t know about the latter but the press around her show can’t make those at top confident they should do this again. They could think the problem was with her identity politics and change that or they could put all the blame on who she is as a person. If they blame her I personally think it’ll be a while before they feel like doing what they feel like is a risk that didn’t pay off because every time someone suggest another woman of color a higher up might be reminded of how things went with Lily. Thats my opinion and you’re entitled to your own but I personally think that when someone that people aren’t used to seeing on tv shows up they have to knock it out of the park and be better than those that look like everyone else. This might just be because I’m black that this way of thinking has been kind of drilled into me that I have to do good so that they’ll know every black person is capable. But once again I understand where you’re coming from and also partially agree
@xa51504 жыл бұрын
@Leon Stalinsky - I actually agree with most of and understand the basis related to what you said. I believe the variance between what we said is primarily a matter of approach and perception, where slight differences provided the opportunity for opposing results of opinion. Your post was also better constructed, formatted, and had more clarity than mine as to the presentation of your thoughts and opinion as well as the supportive reasoning. You also detailed some things which I had omitted, which were good points. One thing I disagree with, which is fairly minor, is how vocal people are. I believe there is still a minority of people who are very vocal, but that the bodies and thoughts behind that voice have changed over time, which has led to the degradation of the the perception of that voice and the number of those in support of it, which were the other points you had referenced in that one portion, and which I did agree with. The other thing I disagree with is that “someone that people aren’t used to seeing on tv... have to knock it out of the park and be better than those that look like everyone else.” I quoted that because I’m ‘not allowed’ to say it myself due to connotations that would be misconstrued and thrust upon me by those aforementioned vocal individuals. Did not want you to think I was being aggressive or mocking in any way, shape, or form. My disagreement is related to the manner in which I interpreted you meant ‘someone that people aren’t used to seeing’ based on how you ended the sentence with ‘look like everyone else.’ As you, begrudgingly, said, it is 2020. There have been actors and actresses of various shapes and sizes and ethnicities and backgrounds and skin color, etc., for years and I cannot think of a show whose main cast is exclusive to one demographic. Even if it were not known at the time as to some of the personal information, such as sexual orientation, past works are still in play and applicable as to merit and ability, if one were so inclined to attribute capability based on any such features or traits, etc. I am not aware of anyone who associates ability with those things, personally, nor have I heard or seen anyone say such (though I have heard people use derogatory language about particular groups all across each spectrum, including caucasians, because someone did something or didn’t do something well; though they never indicated what they referenced was the cause of such; a pleasure of being in and out of nursing homes and retirement facilities and even just being on the internet). Then again, we are each limited to our own perceptions, experiences, and how we are informed by the world. The only time I’ve paid attention to the demographic is when it was pertinent to the story or when it was politicized (such as one movie or show where everyone looked creepily the same and it was a comment on homogeny; or the politics of one actress (I’m really bad when it comes to knowing any of their names) playing a Japanese woman who was supposed to be implanted in the body of a French woman and was a cyborg(?) and the argument of whether the actress should be Japanese or Caucasian). Anyways, I think a lot of people have a bad taste in their mouth (and I’m not restricting this to any one demographic). Some get it from experience, some are given it at a young age by those around them and grow up with it, and some develop it slowly over time due to being dragged into it, either treated as a victim or a perpetrator, regardless of surrounding details and their own espoused and exemplified beliefs and actions. In a way, I think a lot of the issues that exist are because we are conditioned into perpetuating them through our own attempts at self-preservation, intentional or otherwise. A saying that I’m probably remembering incorrectly goes something like “One can not prepare for peace and war at the same time.” If war is changed to conflict, it fits better. If someone believes they are viewed as x or will be treated like y because of z, that subconsciously raises the stakes, whether deserved or not. It’s rough. Makes things more difficult for the individual and the people who interact with that individual and because one stone sharpens another (I need to look up the right saying, but you know what I mean I’m sure) it spreads or diminishes through our interactions with each other. What’s tough, too, is that many people have reasons to be or are just insert expletive here, which we are not privy to, and our own preconceptions color the reason we perceive those as occurring. Problem is, sometimes you’re right and sometimes you’re wrong, and most of the time we can’t really know. Anyways, I know this isnt what you were looking or asking for. Sorry for going slightly off topic. I know I didn’t present what I intended as well as I would’ve wished, or as well as you, but I hope you get where I’m coming from, even if you disagree. In the long run, as to the show, maybe I’m being too positive. Maybe I should’ve considered more the immediate and not the long game, etc. Like I said in my last paragraph from before, the companies are a tad slow. I think the only thing holding anything back is, like you said, the alienation and the lack of understanding related to it. Get the right mix and they’ve got a winner. Considering most of the shows that get aired though, the tastes of the higher ups is questionable and very formulaic. Someone with originality has to move up the ladder at some point, right? Maybe I’m too hopeful. Haha. Anyways, I enjoyed reading your post. Stay safe.
@sapaulgoogdmen95424 жыл бұрын
X A I’m up way too early but I appreciate your response. I just wanna clarify one point I made that you brought up because I feel like I didn’t phrase that point correctly. When I say people that they aren’t used to seeing on tv I meant as the host of a late night talk show. I’m aware that there is a large variety of people being represented on television but not everyone gets to play any role. What I mean by that is that it’s common that people of color are often cast to play a person of color. So a black actor can’t just play a lawyer handling a difficult case he has to be a black lawyer handling a case involving race. People of color are represented but not as regular people but as a person of color. The characters tend to have some kind of arc where they have to tackle an issue that effects there race specifically. Other times they have to play into the characteristics of there race so Indian actors that have never been to India suddenly have to do an Indian accent (looking at you Disney channels Hey Jessie) because they were hired for being an actor of Indian decent. A frequent conversation I have is when are we going to be done mostly casting black actors as drug dealers, gang members, corrupt officials etc. So when I say they aren’t seen often I hope you understand what I mean. We didn’t get a black superhero on the big screen since blade and when we got black panther it was nice but it’s still black people being cast as Africans or the villain. That being said yes there have been other Indian women on screen and film but they’ve been relegated to playing Indian characters or the character having to mention that they’re Indian. There has never been a late night talk show lead by a bisexual woman of color and when they did it didn’t work. So they might get the idea that women of color can’t bring in the views and hesitate to do it again. They won’t have a problem with casting an Indian person in roles that have to do with them being Indian or stereotypical roles but late night tv might be harder since Lilly

I'm so happy that you blew up, you deserve it so much! I had a feeling one of your videos would hit ever since your first Tanacon video, but I definitely didn't expect it to be a video about Lilly that launched you into a new level.

It's been satisfying to watch your videos slowly gain the attention they deserve for their evenhanded observations, attention to detail, and the effort it takes to do first-hand reporting in a world where most people form opinions based on article headlines and shallow youtube videos.

The reason I am so glad your Lily video took off is that you are the only person I watched who did a critique video on her that actually went to the show, and you went FOUR TIMES so I *really* appreciated your perspective tbh
