Other examples: Noriko (Heavenly Sword) - It is stated right at the beginning of the game that whom so ever wields the titular cursed weapon will suffer an eventual death. And, sure enough, in order to become a literal Holy entity by the final reel and defeat King Bohan, Noriko is forced to give her life.

Sora: Kingdom Hearts Rick: Splatterhouse As soon as Sora is born, his heart appears to an injured Ventus to help mend his, thus intertwining their fate. And again, at this point Sora was JUST born. This ends up shaping everything down the road that will happen in Soras life. From being involved with other keyblade wielder, why Vanitus resembles Sora, why Soras nobody Roxas resembles Ventus, etc. Rick ends up getting caught up in some demonic, science mumbo jumbo from the very beginning by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. His girlfriend has a job interview meeting with a professor and brings him along so she feels safe. They end up getting attacked just as he is about to propose. He is fatally injured while she is kidnapped. And his only option not only to save her, but also himself is to make a deal with a mysterious demonic mask thay randomly shows up. By the end of the game, Rick is still unable to remove the mask, and it forever ends on a cliffhanger that his girlfriend is possessed by a long dead spirit.

I can only imagine y'all just weren't used to more complex story based games. Had heard about what a sob story Reach was for several years. Finally played through it with my S.O., and it was about as emotionally deep as a lonely mud puddle.

@@ledumpsterfire6474 true you can feel the devastation of human in halo reach but that was not the case for me i loved deep story ever since my childhood the problems was i did not understand english at that time and second x box 360 was not popular as much ps in my country let alon the halo franchise but gear of war was so that is why doms death was first for me and after x box one i played all halo game there and then the fall of reach was my second

Iconic yes, but she wasn't doomed from the beginning like the others. Others by their own actions or circumstances were doomed, Aerith was hunted by Sephiroth but that's not the same as automatically doomed from the start.

@@NovaShadowStorm I disagree. Whether she cooperated or not she would have died. There is no point in the game where you can save her. If Cloud never met her, then Sephiroth would have destroyed the planet regardless. Rebirth gave me hope they'd be able to save her but, she still died. Cloud's censored (the static sounds) words was confirmed to be what he said in the original game.

@@TheOmegaDragon I agree that we, the player, aren't given a chance to save her, however I could see a chance for her to have lived had things been different. Like in FFVII (the original) Cloud goes to her alone, struggles then she gets impaled by Sephiroth. If the rest of the party had been there too, I think things would have been different. This event is written where they aren't there. But it's not written as they could never be there from the start which is why I feel she COULD have lived had things been different. This is why I take the stance on she wasn't doomed from the start. Where as take Noble 6. Noble 6 was doomed no matter what choice was taken or what was done.

@@NovaShadowStorm That's fair. Never played Noble 6 so I got no input. Remake deals with different timelines though. She might possibly exist in one of them.

@@TheOmegaDragon Also while I never made it to the end of rebirth, I just watched the death scene there, not sure why the party was split up at that point but honestly that didn't seem like a full death scene to me. Sure they are acting like she's dead but there's alot of dimensional weirdness going on when it happened. My guess is for now she's gone but unlike the first time around where she was 100% dead I'm guessing she'll be back as they get closer to whatever is making the whole set of paradoxes at the end of the third game. Either that or the other Aerith will wake up and take over with Zack joining along the way. I never got past the cosmo canyon part so I'm still unsure how Zack's and Clouds timelines interact with one another yet if it's explained at all.

You beat the end boss by giving up your soul to be able to use the power of the Universe Arcana (the most powerful arcana in all of persona with the side effect of using it you die). At the end you're given a little time to see the outcomes of all of your maxed out social links but you start fading pretty fast, then you die in Aigis' arms on the rooftop. Though it does look like you just fall asleep but yeah...

I forget the timeline they gave, but I think I remember he had actually died when Thanatos first manifested as the avatar of Nyx some time in the past and Aigis had seemingly defeated him when it instead hid in the recently deceased boy (who was unaware he had died) while the corporation covered details up and managed to partially wipe Aigis's memories but she was still protective of the boy she failed to save. With the defeat of Nyx in the game, Thanatos was banished as well which left the boy with little time and he faded fast. In Persona 3: FES, it is revealed he and Thanatos had fused their essences to create a wall blocking access to Nyx, as the "villain" of FES was the manifest desire of humanity for Nyx/Death/End. I think his dying in the game may have been a post-credits scene.

It's actually kind of ironic that Bioshock Infinite, the one game in the franchise that has to do with multiverses and multiple different interpretations of characters I'd also the only game where there is one conclusive ending while the others had multiple endings.

I'm surprised no one's talking about Karlach from BG3. Spoilers ahead, so warning. . .. ... .. . No matter what ending you get, she's essentially going to either die very shortly after the events of the game or be stuck in Avernus because her heart is just too dangerous outside of it. The only ending that I believe saves her is Gale's romance route if you play origin Karlach. Otherwise, she's doomed from the start.

It will always feel upsetting whenever the main protagonist of a story is doomed to fail. But obviously, not every story is going to end on a good note.

Honestly, the hero of Ferelden In Dragon Age origins is doomed from the start as well. - No matter the background or race, you're in a dire situation of joining the wardens or dying - The warden initiation process can kill you whether in Battle or during the ritual - You're wanted for treason after the King fell in battle - The dark Spawn blood in your body is slowly killing you - to defeat the archdemon you would basically have to sacrifice yourself. Depending on your choices
