Yara Flor is an underrated character who has a lot of potential; however, she’s just going to appear in cameos, teamups, and backgrounds in many DC titles just like a lot of Wonder Woman supporting characters and legacies because a lot of writers and editors don’t know what to do with the Wonder Woman family.

As messy as it was implemented, Yara Flor sort of had history/report with Jon Kent. Now Trinity supposedly has a history with Jon and Damian that's pulled out of nowhere. DC's having problems with their new legacy heroes.

Yeah, Brazilian mythology/folklore is untouched in popular culture and Yara could've been a great gateway into that world. The fact that it's also not so well recorded and the information that is there is scarce, all it needs is a good writer to expand upon it. Tupi/Guarani mythology, Afro-Brazilian myth (Candomble, Umbanda), and general Brazilian folklore are all avenues that I feel Yara could help expand the Wonder Woman mythos and the DC universe as a whole.

As a HUGE Wonder Woman fan, it's so sad DC continues to drop the ball when it comes to building Diana's world. I think she should have started out as just Yara Flor in the main continuity and not given the Wonder Girl title till way later because now she has to combat for page space with the other wonder girls who have relatively strong fanbases . It would have been nice to see her do her own thing, connect with the wonder girls and then grow into the role in the distant future. With how “immortal” characters tend to be, not having your own code name can be a death sentence to new characters. Yara can’t really be a Young justice or Titan character and that’s where the Wonder girls tend to gravitate to outside of the Wonder Woman main titles.

I was so dissapointed in Yara's story mostly because instead of actually exploring south american mythology it went straight back to the greek gods. It was such a missed opportunity to explore something underutlized in fiction. Yara still has alot of potential and I think the best thing to do would involve her primarily in the matters of her own tribe and fleshing them out in the process. There are alot of adventures to be had from adventures about exploring south american history and delving into it's folklore to dealing with all kinds of political issues and just generally dealing with Yara's own set of villains native to her part of the world. Snowflame IS Columbian after all. Also, didn't she live with an aunt in the US? How exactly is she involved? Has she been an amazon aswell or is something else going on? There. Already the premise of a storyline. DC and by extension WB are really too occupied with IP farming and don't seem to even try to make anything stick for more than a year wich is really detremental to basicly everyone involved.

The book was solid over all I think and her having her own on-going out of the gate wasn't a bad thing. The sales don't seem to have been very bad, it's just the delays and issues caused problems with DC wanting, beyond all else, to push these awful tie ins that didn't work on any level. Also, let's be real.. DC has a TERRIBLE history with Wonder Woman and the Wonder Family. Diana is often treated like a D-Lister and her Family is treated like.. an aside at times.. The artwork in this comic was fantastic. I loved the design and the colors. I think what killed this, ultimately, was the attempt to make her another Wonder person, versus letting her stand on her own. Just didn't really feel like it worked, especially given that it's weird to connect the indigenous Amazonian peoples to the Greek Amazons. Now, to be clear, a Brown or Latina-coded Amazon from Themyscira is entirely fair play. But tying her to the literal Amazon just felt super lazy, even - or especially - with the backend attempt to explain it all. She should have just been a deity or demigod with foundational origins in the Amazon basin, or in the Pre-Colombian Americas more generally, without any connection to Wonder people or the Amazons themselves. The other issue is that she was definitely written as a type-A teeny-brawler versus as an honor-bound, thoughtful warrior. That didn't do her any favors.

Your use of the phrase Limbo State gives me an idea for an event: Limbo State. It which Yara and Punchline find themselves in a strange dimension featuring lots of Dc characters who never quite landed. We get the story of how Nubia managed to break out of it after being stuck there for twenty years. We get a scene where Clownhunter tells Ghost Maker he's afraid they might end up there. I could run with this one. Yara still has potential. She could be one of those who they will forget about for a while then decide to give a chance to. So you never know. The back up idea is an excellent one. Or she could go into a team book. Wonder Woman incorporated. Where Diana uses her supporting characters to spread the idea of fighting literally for peace around the globe. Cassie can have a part of the franchise somewhere. Donna another. Yara can have the south american branch.

I feel privileged to have witnessed firsthand, Yara bursting onto the scene, only to fizzle out into yet another background character. Maybe instead of trying so hard with her, they should have just eased her in and let her grow naturally. When they announced the CW show before she'd even debuted, I knew something was up. It feels like DC keep trying to introduce new big characters, but in the end all they do is increase the pool of obscure characters they can use for crowd scenes in big event stories. I look forward to the inevitable Wonder Girls series, where Yara, Cassie and Donna share an apartment in San Francisco or something.

I'm a fan and would like to see more of her. I feel like her character would be treated so much better and more appreciated in Marvel.

I think you revisit some of these storylines that have been brushed to the side. I would love to see her back in Brazil with her tribe tying her more into Brazilian mythos. I could see her rising as being a protector of the Amazon rain forest and her learning the ways...keeping her aggressive but really she is a stranger in a strange land. I would have her learning about medicine and the Brazilian mythos. Along with having tension between the way she does things along with the way Diana does them (and maybe Nubia and Hippolyta approving of Yara reaching for the sword a bit easier than Diana does).

I mean, launching immediately into their own book with or without a teaser appearance or two is very common for new heroes in Marvel/DC. The REAL problem is the endless world-"changing" events. New characters almost always get lost in the shuffle that way unless the event is literally built around them.

VERY well done video! I loved the introduction and potential of Yara Flor... such a shame to see what little was done with her. Speaking of "what might have been" I would love to see what you can do/think of Marvel's Nightcat (1991) which never made it past its premier issue. They pushed her super hard too like Yara - there was a tie-in music album (seriously!) and they hired a model/actress to play the character at TV appearances like on Rick Dees' show.

I would love to see and read a book that featured a secondary trinity made up of Yara, Kenan and Casandra. Let these underutilized members of their respective superhero families have a chance to shine. Also, I think this trio would be fascinating together.

I loved the idea of Yara Flor and was very interested on the Brazilian side but then the first issue dropped and it was set in the USA and lost a lot of interest, but I still loved the wonderful artwork.

I really like her i think shes a really cool character. I was fully on board with the solo series werent the strongest story but good enough, the art was amazing i was annoyed they cancelled it and she was just pushed aside. Especially now we have the "Girlboss wonder girl" just because.......

I had just returned to comic collecting about 2 months prior to Yara Flor’s debut solo series. I was never a Wonder Woman or Wonder Girl fan. I never read an issue of either title in the heyday of my initial collecting life. When I came across this version of Wonder Girl I loved it. It was a good read and the art in most of the issues was superb. I was thoroughly disappointed when I learned that the 7th issue was to be the last issue. I appreciate your explanation of … well everything that was happening in front and behind the scenes. I had no clue.

13:21 she was given multiple plot opportunities that could have been developed further in a short time span-it's almost like the same strategy they use for Netflix plots before cancelling a popular show after the second season. I wonder if streaming and social media is causing the way all media is consumed to change for hyper rapid consumption at binge levels.

Initially I was sceptical of Yara, but now? I like her. She’s got personality and a unique setting/perspective. She definitely deserves to be in something! Put her on a team book at least. It feels like with the intro of Historia (who seems a lot less likeable based on initial impressions) she’s been cast aside, which is a shame.

DC always tries to do this. Introduce new twist of legacy characters, for quick cash grabs, then when interest declines...repeat, OR insert Crisis.

I could definitely see the potential for a series featuring her and maybe even the other Wonder Women but it would have to be well written of course.

Cool to find out about this modern character. I wish the comic companies would put their efforts into creating interesting new characters like this, that also can add some extra depth to existing characters (though that parts not necessary, if it'd be forced) instead of continually rebooting or drastically changing the classic characters. It'd help to keep more of us long-time readers and yet still attract the newer ones who are put off by so much pre-existing backstory.

9:40 The Cloonrad run of Wonder Woman became a hot mess because bad characterization, ignoring Wonder Woman storylines and events even though it’s supposed to lead into something, referencing Golden and Silver Age Wonder Woman adventures (i.e. Milk Corporation and Image Maker plot), and not establishing a timeline or continuity for the entire Wonder Woman family (and letting other writers and editors do it in other books).

I have a feeling that eventually someone will come along and tell a really good story involving her as a key character and that will revitalize her momentum enough to make her more permanently prominent amongst DC's ranks.

As a Brazilian, I'm glad Brazilian legends and folklore are getting attention (I liked Caipora's design, the vibe I had was that she's basically an anime character immigrant in a Western comic), but still Yara's story sounds so unnecessarily convoluted. It feels like what a Brazilian fanfic writer would cook. But, yeah, her character really suffered of bad planning, but that makes me wonder what happened in the pitch meeting that decided she'd be Brazilian.

Yara was a victim of changing corporate/editorial changes. Dan Didio was a creative force for DC, but he thought constant upsetting the status quo was the way to ensure readership. It worked when he did Infinite Crisis-and 52. He revitilized the company. Then he kept changing the status quo so many times: Flashpoint, NU 52 Rebirth, Heroes in Crisis, Metal, Death Metal and so on. Dan Didio continued to micromanage. Decided to do a major shake-up. G5 would have replaced Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman with John Ken, Fox, and Yara. A new timeline would make Clark, Bruce in their 50s. Dan DiDio started micrimanaging his people. To set things up. Jon Kent being aged up, Bruce Wayne losing his money/Alfred (I'm convinced that Tom Kings original run would have cat and bat married) Future State was supposed to be a “Preview” of new storylines. However, Dan DiDio was fired and DC reworked existing material to patch up the latest Crisis. Yara suddenly had no future, now that the reason for existing was taken away.

I actually like Yara, its a shame she didnt took off, I liked the art by Jöelle Jones in her series, she has a lot of untapped potential. I think they need to give her another chance, maybe with an actual brasilian writer than can get the culture in depth, Jones did a passible job imo but if Yara is to come back I think she should just focus on the art.

As a brazillian myself, I can say that DC did almost everything right with this character. She is funny, caring, sweet and a smocking hot badass. As a brazillian woman should be.

I'm a huge fan of the character, I would love to see either a backup story or a main book with her. I loved her Wonder Girl book and was disheartened when it was announced it was cut short at issue 7. There is a lot of potential with this character, people just need to give her the chance to grow.
@Mijawo83 Жыл бұрын
Maybe they should revive the Justice League International name, base it around her, Chinese Superman, and whichever foreign Batman is most popular at the moment. You could also throw in Fire and Ice for fans of the original.

Or you should think Batman or Superman or Wonder Woman more of TITLE than a RACE . Than the person itself.
