One of our wheel bearing went bad and despite some bad information from the dealer, we decided to self diagnose and fix our wheel bearing.

I appreciate you making this video that sound that is coming from your F150 is the same exact sound that is coming from mine I was very nervous that it was transmission but after talking to a transmission expert, they told me to check into wheelbearings and low and behold, so I appreciate you making this video and letting us here what the wheel bearing sounded like it help me diagnose the problem and get it fixed.

Dude thank you so much! I got new tires 1 year and 2 months ago. Took it to pep boys and they said I need all new suspension and rotors and tires! $6,400!!!! Driver side rumbled before and after tire rotation so I knew they were wrong. Changed wheel bearing for $260 and good as new! Never going to pep boys again!

I just had mine come a part and the entire front passenger side hit the ground after the wheel broke off. Basically the wheel hub bearing broke and separated and when it hit the ground destroyed the caliper as well. Lucky we weren’t on a highway. We were going 5-10mph in an apartment complex.

Its amazing service centers are not willing or incapable of finding problems that have not yet manifested into like horrendous issues that more parts need to be replaced. Its like they are only capable nowadays to see massive issues and not small ones. Goes along with this whole movement to take away the garage mechanics ability to do repairs on their own vehicles and leave it to the dealerships or service centers. Id rather replace stuff when a noise starts.

Thanks I found your video helpful. My f150 makes a noise like this though not as loud and from the rear. Usually in the past when I've had a bearing go bad it makes a constant hum or growl, but it's a wum-wum-wum cycling sound like yours so I think it's time to do the rear wheel bearings.

2018 F-150 FX4 2.7L RC 6.5' At 49K miles I replaced the front passenger side wheel bearing assembly ($150. Amazon) because of the whining roaring noise (that I thought was in the rear differential) that started at 23K and continued to 49K when I jacked up each wheel and discovered the RH front tire would wobble an inch or more when shaking the tire back and forth, the other three tires (Bearings) were tight and did not move. It took 1.5 hours in my driveway and there is no noise now.

My 2015 is actually making a roaring noise just driving straight and gets louder as I turn just like yours. Showed up at 136,000 miles. Not sure they were ever replaced. Just got it back from the dealer having other things fixed and I mentioned it to them, but they said that the tech couldn’t detect anything. Didn’t even give me an excuse lol. If I can detect something, they should be able to. I’d fix it myself, but I still got aftermarket warranty so it will be going back to a different dealer. Should be interesting to see what they come up with.

Hey I have a very similar problem and the dealer told me the same. I got my Ford at Rt23 Ford in NJ but I've had my F250 for 3yrs and it hasn't Increased in sound but I feel like I may have a similar issue.

Very helpful video. I am going through a similar issue with my 2021 Lariat. There is this humming noise ONLY happens when I turn the steering wheel to the right. And it does not change when I use 2H, 4A/4H. I thought it would be in the drive shaft. But in reality, I should ask them to check my bearing. They also told me the same thing, that AT tires are loud, or tire is rubbing the fender liner etc, which I don't think is the case.

Okay, UPDATE: I had my truck in the shop and the dealer did find the RH front wheel bearing was the culprit. After replacement, the noise is gone completely. @@lstint233

Was just told by my local dealer, Ford is 15,000 units behind. They were able to locate an aftermarket unit, but have already had my truck for 2 weeks. Crazy to have this level of premature failure. My 2018 with 5.0 V8 has 49k miles.

Thanks for the video, my 2018 rear driver wheel bearing is bad at 54k miles. Is this normal for a wheel bearing to go bad at that mileage. I do Tow a 9,000lb travel trailer a fair amount, not sure that has an impact.

I'd say that's low mileage for a wheel bearing to go out, but if you're pulling 9,000lbs on a regular basis then that would definitely add to the wear and tear. That weight is well within a half ton's ability to pull, but as I understand it, if you are consistently towing anything over 8,500lbs then a super duty is recommended. You're pulling on the higher end of your truck's capability. This is just what I have read from other sources, so please don't take my word for it.

Yes, it does change when turning. In the video you can hear it change pitch when I turn the wheel to the right.

Did you unplug the old sensor wire and replace with the new sensor wire from new hub? I have this same problem, but it’s on the left passenger side. Every video shows wire from driver side, but not left. Still trying to figure this side out. Currently replacing a wheel hub on the left passenger side at 35,000 miles.

I did use the sensor from the new hub assembly. I think you would still be able to replace this by following the line up from the wheel well. I have not looked at it myself, but it has to be pretty near that area or possibly near the battery. The low mileage from these wheel bearing is pretty disappointing. Good luck on the replacement.

@@goodcleanfun3118 I did my driver's side last year and just today did the passenger side. 103,000 kilometers/60,000 miles on my 2017 F150. You can figure out the routing of the sensor wire on the passenger side without too much issue. Take a few pictures with your smartphone before you pull it out. You will need to find one for RWD only. The one I installed is for 4WD and is different.

Yes, there was definitely some vibrations. They could be felt through the entire truck.

Steering has been fine, nothing noticeable since the repair. I would check the ball joint just to be sure or maybe a mechanic to give it a lookover.

I'm here due to front road noise. I bought brand new Cooper Discoverer tires. So I know how they did sound when they were first put on. No road noise at all. Now I'm starting to hear a little road noise and it sounds like it's coming from the front drivers side. Not sure if tires get louder as they wear or if I have a wheel bearing going out.

Get the truck up on a jack and see if there is any give. Mine had just a tiny bit of wiggle and that was enough to create a lot of noise and vibration.

Yoo I’m freaked I hear a air plane droning sound that has gotten worse. Just got off the phone with the tire shop and they said wheel bearing and hubs need replaced and quoted 1900. Said it would be cheaper just to go to the dealership. Does this sound right??

It's a pretty large repair, especially if both of the hub assembly's need to be replaced. Still, that seems steep. It's not too technical though so many owners do the repair themselves to save on the work. Sorry that it has begun for you.

I’ve had two opinions and I think I’m looking at 1000 in parts to do all rotors, pads, front right hub assembly & front left caliper. With genuine motor-craft parts. Still, I have to figure out how to do it! I’m intrested in how things work so I’ll just tackle it in my backyard I reckon.

Wheel bearing replacement is a hour job if done very casually. I did mine in the driveway never having done one before and took me 30 minutes. Would have been faster but it took ten minutes to remove the electrical clip😡 for the ABS. I do however have lots of experience with working on vehicles. And have proper tools but no lift.

Aside from the noise being louder on the driver's side, I lifted each wheel and gave it a good shake. There was some wiggle on the drivers side tire while there was none on the passenger side.

@@dixoncider3396 Maybe, but just to be sure, put the truck on a jack and see if there is any wiggle on thee wheel. There should not be any. I had no give on the passenger side, but the drivers side did. That was the giveaway for me, not to mention that the noise seemed much louder on the drivers side of the truck.

It is hard to hire good help, the dealer's technician let you down and also let the dealership down. The dealership would have loved to have solved the problem and to have made you happy. That goes, or should go, for any business. Diffeential noise is similar and even more serous. Is that a Raptor?

Hey bro, mine make a weird sound on 2H and when changed to 4H the sound will go. The mechanic said it is from wheel bearing!!! I kinda disagree, your thoughts

I am not a mechanic, but I would disagree. A bad wheel bearing is consistently noisy no matter if you're in 2H or 4H. I'd suggest putting the truck on a lift and tugging the wheels to see if there is any give. If not, then something else is going on.

So I have a 2017 f150 and I have humming, you really start hearing it starting at 30 mph and when I’m going 50 or over and turn right 2-3 o’clock on the steering wheel the noise goes away. I’ve check everything I could and nothing is obvious. Can’t figure it out, I’m stumped

I recommend putting the truck on a lift to see if there is any wiggle to those front wheels. It sounds like you are at an earlier stage of a wheel bearing going out.

@@goodcleanfun3118 okay! I’ve lifted it in the air, done the top to bottom wiggle check and nothing. No play. Up and down or side to side. Many people have said wheel bearing as well, but I also wouldn’t know exactly what side it would be! I Appreciate your feedback

Same truck year and replaced my wheels bearing twice ( thinking I got a faulty part) and tire rotation to back and full front brake replacement. Still hearing the same annoying hum that gets worse Turing right. Did you ever figure yours out?
