The Rand/Lan training is good to see. One thing I was not looking forward to was the Rand/Turak encounter because even with the amount of training he got in the books, it seemed far fetched that he could stand up to a legit blade master. Rand giving him the Indiana Jones treatment is probably my favorite tv change so far.

Agree. I think the Liandrin/Nynaeve interaction where Liandrin showed Nynaeve the air sword but then tied her up with the power totally foreshadowed how Rand would take down Turak. You don't fight fair, you fight to win, and Rand would/should have been totally outclassed in a fair sword fight.

So glad to hear about the fight at the Tower. It explains the timeline, as the teaser had Siuan speaking privately to Nynaeve. This is when she learns of Liandrin 's part in the abduction of the 3 girls. Elaida ISNT in the Tower as yet, so there's time for Elanye & Egwene to become accepted and begin their quest to locate the Black Ajahs. I wasn't looking forward to that timeline being ignored. Thanks for this clarification. March 13th can't come soon enough

My suspicion is the wound in her neck is from the world of dreams. In the books Verin talks about and shows a scar from a wound that healing wouldn't touch because it was sustained in the world of dreams. Perhaps Egwene is aiready sneaking into it on her own and got hurt. I don't think mirroring Rand and her in the way you suggest, with unhealing wounds, would be a very good idea.

Hi John. I think we need to look at the structure of the season. If we assume that the black schism is episode one and the two rivers battle is episode 8 we need to look at the fillers. I think we won't see the Aeil waste until at least episode 4 and Rhuidean until Episode 6. Egwene has her acceptance test with Suian before she embarks on the journey to the waste so if she is with Rand on that journey she needs to be in tar valon first. If the battle occurs in the first 5 mins the accepted test must be in episode 2. She can't be in both places at once. It depends where the E5 start the first episode. There needs to be something that draws Rand to the waste, and they need to sell Rand taking control of Falme in the absence of the Seanchan. He can't start on his way to the waste as that wouldn't be explained. The show needs to work fast for 8 episodes but it can't be too quick. Ep1 - black ajah battle, Rand establishing some sense of importance to the populace under Moiraines guidance and growing influence of the Foresaken (Lan). Perrin hears that the white cloaks have a mark against him and they are heading to the two rivers compelling him to follow. Ep2 - Egwene, and Elayne receive their accepted tests after the previous battle. Egwene starts to experience dreams and a call from the wise ones. Matt faces off against the boys who have come with Elaida who wants to know where Elayne is. Egwene, Nynaeve and Elayne get their brief to go on a secret mission to locate the black ajah with rumour of Tanchico. Whitecloaks start causing issues. Episode 3 - growing tensions in the tower following the battle and rumours from the West of the dragon banner. Elaida plots. Elayne leaves with Nynaeve, Egwene and Mat to go to tanchico. Rand finds out about the caracarn prophesy and is encouraged to go. Episode 4 - meeting of parties in Camelon. Min is there too. Perrin arrives in Two Rivers. Suian and Moiraine reconcile. Mhogs causes issues to black ajah in Tanchico. Egwene breaks off to go with Rand. Episode 5 - journey to the waste and meeting with Rhuarc and the wise ones. Nynaeve and Elayne reach Tanchico and begin hunting the black ajah. Mat finds his luck. Episode 6 - movement to Rhuidean. Whitecloaks and Perrin tensions are high. Mhogs tries to kill Nynaeve in the rowing boat with bale fire. Episode 7 - travels through the columns . Elaida activates her coup. Trollocks approach the two rivers. Nynaeve and Elayne find the black ajah hiding place. Episode 8 - battle of the two rivers, stilling of Suian, Rand declared the Caracarn. Mhogs and Nynaeve face off with Mhogs and the block is broken. Only logical way this season works.

I saw ep7 title as golden eyes but it is more impactful than the Caracarn unless they've merged Couladin with Asmodean and there's a fight when Rand reveals his arms. Another thought is Min is dragged to Tanchico with Liandrin and is saved by Mat.

Or she gets it in TAR when she's accidentally/purposely entering and that's why it won't heal properly. TAR wounds never heal the same.

Finished rewatch of season 1 yesterday. Now for S02

I watched s1 but wasn't really hooked. Some episodes were better than others, just like in any other series. When s2 arrived I started watching it, but only a few episodes, still not hooked. I then somewhere read that the series was based on a book series, and I started listening to the books narrated by Rosamund Pike and was totally captivated. Having watched the episodes really helped me as I could put faces on the characters when hearing the story in the books. After listening to the first one, I went back and watched s1 and the full s2 and it was like it was a totally different story. Now I was hooked, no doubt about that. I'm currently listening to Lord of Chaos, which I believe is the sixth book, and I am so looking forward to the third season of the show.

Do you think it's not necessarily about whether or not we get season 4, but rather about whether they're allowed to keep writing for the 8-season plan or will have to write S4 as a final or penultimate season? Like, it occurred to me that this is probably the last season that was going to cover that they want it to regardless of how many future seasons they get. But they'll have to write S4 drastically differently if they're being told there's no chance of more than 5-6 seasons. And if they can't start writing S4, then it makes sense not to do any official greenlighting until they can go ahead with a plan that fits the long term prospects.

It’s about season 4. As of right now it’s not going to happen. Amazon needs to see a significant boost in the ratings from season 2. While there are other factors involved, the show needs to come out of the gate swinging and bring in/bring back many viewers. It lost a fair amount of eyeballs between the two seasons. Now you’re looking at a show that probably needs to come close to season 1 debut numbers to move forward. Jon is right that Amazon will know very early on whether they will cancel the show. That’s because bad early returns will be the death blow. But they also won’t know for most (if not all) of season 3 whether they will renew it. They will need to see solid retention of those early high ratings before making the commitment. If the show does gangbusters early and often, solidifying into a bona fide hit, you’ll likely get full renewal for three more seasons, with potential endings being plotted out for six or eight seasons. If the show goes belly up right away it’ll be an easy cancel. If it does just enough but never becomes a legitimate hit in season 3, that’s when you MIGHT see a season 4 as a final season. That likely only happens if Amazon actually cares about a “complete” or “finished” show.

Povo do Dragao didn't say that Moiraine is in the Tower, nor did the Oath specify the Tower v Tar Valon (it was "return home" which is a phrase many of us have interpreted different ways). So unless you have specific intel from your source, I don't know how much we can assume about, e.g., Siuan necessarily having called her back, etc. I wonder if maybe the coup itself could involve something like the Youngling/Warder fighting, depending on whether it happens while Gawyn and Galad are still there. But it would certainly be cheaper vfx-wise not to have any Sisters fight, and would keep it from being too much of a repeat beat. Just having Shohreh and Sophie acting against each other is gonna be epic in itself, either way.

Hey Jon, how do you think all the team ends up in Tar Avalon? When during the interview the cast said that they were all together. It looks like they were in falme and it was feeling like home but not home anymore. I am having a struggle to imagine how they can be in the first 15 minutes of the season in Tar Valo and also still all together to take the decision where to go next. Do you think that means that they will be in tar valon all together and not staying in Falme like at the end of season 2?

Very unlikely to happen. 1) The show has established that Rand is quite unskilled in the power by the end of season 2) He would need a channeling teacher to actually level up. It’s quite unlikely that he can defeat and capture Asmodean without some decent training. I think Lanfear will capture Asmodean by herself and gift him to Rand.

My only problem with the second scene is why on earth Moiraine and Nynaeve are just there for some reason. Like they just teleported back to Tar Valon. Why would Moiraine, let alone Nynaeve, agree to abandon the rest of them after reuniting at Falme? How will Moiraine just teleport back to the group in time for the first scene to happen? It just feels so disjointed, and it's annoying cause there's no real reason for Moiraine and Nynaeve to be there at this point. They don't really have an effect on the scene or the events of the schism, they're just reacting to what's happening. I feel like that hurts the story.

For a few of the comments below, and if listening to John, the bonkers start is Liandrin being outed as black and she and other blacks battling their way out of TV The coup to overthrow Siuan (and Leane) will come later, no doubt using the blacks, Rand being loose in the world, etc, to justify it - we haven't even seen Elaida yet and we know she has been cast. And for others, even if we got 8 seasons it never would, never could, cover all 14 books. Perhaps some expectations were just too unrealistic, and as much as I love the books, the writing/story was at times tedious and long-winded. Compression and omissions were always going to be required. This will probably be the only time we get WoT on screen, so we need to make the most of it.

I hope they show Rand more and really have him grow. it's worrying what you said that Egwene and Rand are going to be Parallel- my biggest complaint is he is DR and the show has made him the least interesting character on screen. Egwene has to much screen time.

Hey now. I just like the show :) I also like the books! I look at it this way, if it's identical then ... ok. Cool. But if it's different in the journey, then it's almost like reading new Wheel of Time books every time I watch a season. I appreciate that. I fuckin LOVE that. It recaptures that magic feeling I had sitting in my parents car on the way home from the book store ... smelling the fresh ink and cracking the spine of a new book....not knowing exactly what I'll get. Bloody magic.

I heard that in the preview, Rand (a man who can channel) went to Tar Valon. Let that sink in. I watched the first two seasons with a hand over one eye but I think I'll watch this season. I really wanted to like it but it's too far from Robert Jordan. I'll just watch KZbin reviews as I won't be tempted to throw things at the TV

@@robinirie98 OK, well, if Screen Rant is correct, it's possible that Rand might show up covertly in Tar Valon briefly on a mission. That's not the same thing as a male channeler just hanging out at the tower or even the city casually. Rand did go to Tar Valon in the books, so I don't really know what your point is. Did you watch the trailer yet?

@lightblindedfool9510 Yeah, I watched the teaser trailer. Rand went to Tar Valon in the book when he was zen Rand, the creator's avatar who could will apple trees to bear fruit. But I do expect you to tell me that it makes sense that ANY man who can channel would go anywhere near more than 13 Aes Sedai. I expect to be told that that is exactly the story Robert Jordan wrote.

@@robinirie98 I don't like the idea of Rand in Tar Valon at this point in the series, but if he does go, I'm sure it will be briefly and undercover. Also, most Aes Sedai don't know who he is yet. Anyway, I'm still not convinced he does go yet, and if he does it will be very brief and he won't get caught, so I think this is making a mountain out of a mole hill. I plan to watch and find out and not assume the worst on a sliver of information.
